STILL the best video ever posted on youtube after 4 years of watching it . What a lineup - Blind Owl Wilson , perhaps the best slide guitarist who ever lived , Bob" The Bear " Hite ( could wail with the best of 'em), the immortal Harvey Mandel on guitar - his first gig replacing Henry Vestine , Fito de la Parra on drums and the best bassist ever Larry Taylor - now THIS is real music . Glad I lived it .
Who could have predicted that little Bobbie Hite from my home town of Torrance would have become "The Bear." We played together in grade school and high school band. He played trumpet then,as did I. Seems he was more serious about music.
well people. I saw them in Rome, 1971 (?) there was no more Vestine but Harvey Mandel on guitar...they were GREAT the same...iuhu but also in Woodstock the lead guitar was Harvey....
I love how he keeps dropping the low E on top of everything in the solo, it's just sick!!! Can you imagine what this would have sounded like if he were using a Les Paul??? You would probably soil yourself each time he hit it.
I so love these guys they were brilliant, Drove from Perth to Broome in West Australia and left all the music behind by accident, but found canned heat in the glove box and it got played Soooooooooo much LOL

I guess Woodstock was one of the few concerts in the history, when a person, who ended up on the stage, would get a cigarette lighten by the singer. Nowadays that guy would prolly get a boot to his ass. Boy times have changed or what?
You can tell how peaceful this show was just from this video. Now a days if someone were to jump up onto the stage and run towards the singer he would get tackled before he got to him, not given a carton of fags
One thing I don't see anyone mentioning is the awesome camera man who was all in there. He gets so close to Larry "The Mole" that it ridiculous, I applaud his great talents.
I wish I were born in 1950 so I could be at this concert w/ 19 years old and do all the crazu shit they did, listening to this kind of music. I'm sorry for being born in 1985...
@SirCubedThaRyter The music is "Dust My Broom", but The Bear(who apparently knew most of the history`s blues lyrics) sings verses from different blues-classics ; "If You`ve Got A Good Friend", "Turpentine Moan", etc. But the first verses he improvises about what`s going on.
I was born long after this performance & I never really knew just how good Canned Heat were! How good would it have been to be there? Love this....love it! So good to see Hite let the fan stay on stage...Pure class.
best music ever PEACE...... This time was the best....with: Jimi Hendrix, Canned Heat, Janis Joplin, John Sebastian, Joe Cocker..etc.... I wish i can be in this time....man..it is so sad
man i just can't get over it! this music is too good! and i don't give a crap, we're bringing good music back, so everybody, be ready to get united when the music revolution will hit and people will be getting together in the streets and parks to rock out to a new vibe!!
Ya No, its amazing... woodstock was 41 years ago and people are still playin the music of " Canned Heat"....I saw them before Woodstock and at Woodstock and many times after that, I moved to California in oct 69 and saw them in san deigo and LA, Tahunga canyon at the strawberry fest, and impromto at the corral..then west coast traveling to San Fran and to some concerts in Oregon and Washington.....these Guys were Fantastic...Try.. BOOGIE House Blues.....
@shakedownstreet48: u'r wrong man as Harvey "The Snake" Mandel, second guitar here at 3:30 is still around playing. The drummer Fito de la Parra also is still alive and playing.
They're coming in my town this summer! A little town in Belgium called Verviers ! I still can"t believe it! I'm so happy. It's wonderful, I've never thought I could one day see them. I'm 20 and I will see real legends, they built music history!
If you like your music folksy and edgy, your lyrics poetic and current and your talent raw then this young Irish guy Conall Toal seems to tick all the boxes. As he's only starting out it would be great if you could give him a look then maybe leave a comment and spread the word! Thanks and enjoy your music.
Canned Heat at their best. They weren't the same after Al "Blind Owl" Wilson died in 1970 and it was over for good for me when the Bear died in 1981........And Fito, the drummer passed away a couple of weeks ago.
@Mazraf Thanks Mazraf. I heard of his "passing" fom a copmment I heard on the radio. He's a hellava drummer and may he live forever. Thanks agian for some good news, which is becoming hard to come by. Peace out.mj
