  • for all you dumb-asses that are not familiar with 44 mag. this hand-gun is carried by deer-hunters in alaska to prevent kodiack bear attacks. oh ya yo this happens to be in alaska think about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Just viewed this video..not bad! But...this is where I have to chime in. My interpretation of a "Alaskan Firearm" is a swift Point-Shoot draw from a holster without hanging upped the movement. Which I would imagine a dangerous animal would be posing quick action before you get your nuts chewed off? So, what does having both front-sight and adjustable rear sight have to do with pulling your Junk out of the fire? JMO, SBB

  • @postal1911 is this firearm appropriate self defence option for teen girl ?

  • 44 magnu?

  • What is the maximum range that gun stays accurate with that small barrel?

  • is that a star wars rebellion sign i see on the grip?

  • @snyperH3117 Nope, that's the Ruger symbol.

  • @zulu45 George Lucas is a big Ruger fan

  • @mkultra2300 Jackass. Why did you have to tell me that? Now you have ruined Ruger for me forever, lol!

  • Nice Gun ! I have S&W 29-2 4'' that I really enjoy, But that weapon is very nice I Like the lines and You can't go wrong with Ruger My opinion They are right up there with Smith, and priced right. S&W Just isn't the same

  • @postal1911 How is it when you shoot it with one hand? Im looking for a revolver i can carry it around in public and use it for self defense. And also carry it for hunting or for target shooting.

  • I love mine. I had some extremely HOT loads made up and I would hate to be the bear that thinks I look like his lunch. This is one of the greatest guns made IMHO. I had a black bear come in on me during deer season last year and I was more confident because of that gun than I have ever been in the woods.

  • Hehe just got a ruger super blackhawk with a 6 inch barrel. First time ever using .44 240 gr bullets. Wasnt anywhere near as bad as i thought but then again I am 270 pds in shape and use .45 all the time anyways. Living in canada presently so these cool snub nose alaskans are just not in my future :( But when you shoot at a range, EVERYONE stops and looks around to see where the overpressure is coming from lol!

  • this revolver prob has the same trigger pull as the Redhawk? Most of the way back, and then you feel the stop before the boom?

  • My friend once shot a bear 6 times with his .357. Lucky his buddy came along with the .300 Win Mag to put it down.

  • @19baitmaster51 I seen on a website .44 Magnum is Minimum handgun caliber for bear protection , minimum . You need .44 magnum and up , bottom line.

  • Should have gotten a 454 Alaskan

  • My Dick is Bigger.

  • sorry i thought it looked like he wanted to shoot a seventh round. I would.

  • Thank goodness! Someone that actually knows how to properly shoot DA.

  • shoots like a man yes but you HAVE to learn to count

  • @Davidautofull - He didn't flinch; he knows his shit!

  • Nice trigger control. I want one!

  • how does it handle 340 grain?

  • Yes, it can. Don't forget that's it's a Ruger Super Redhawk. In fact, these short-barreled revolvers are best used for the heaviest rounds of each caliber. 340 gr and even 365 gr are optimum for a Ruger Alaskan .44. However, bear in mind that these rounds are slower than their lighter counterparts, and therefore shall have a shorter range.

  • can this handle 340 grain rounds?

  • Do you recommend the Alaskan as a first 44 purchase? I love the look and want one for my collection, just not sure what brand.

  • i love the 44 mag and have several, i have a question though why doesnt ruger option the stronger and better looking non fluted cylinder on this masterpiece??

  • it look's tough as hell

and even though some people complain about the weight, the weight actually reduces the recoil (as you already know)

  • this is a stupid question but why they call it alaskan?

  • @kjsh987 supposedly made for hiking in alaska since it is very carryable and uses 454

  • @postal1911 Wow great shooting I love ruger's guns, I have to the Ruger GP-100 357 magnum and I love using th magnum loads, but I used the JSP ammo for self-defense, I need your expertise in ammo, is any better kind of ammo I use instead of the JSP or the JSP is ok for self-defense, plus I want something that's not going to penetrate my walls or innocent bystanders, forgive me I'm new to this?

  • @Mr291229 .357 magnum 125 Grain Semi-Jacketed Hollowpoint. It is as good as it gets for a defensive load.

  • @kjsh987 Made to stop bears and other aggressive critters.

  • @kjsh987 because a Bear that has been shot by a small caliber gun will keep charging and split a human guts open wide, then go off and die in a few days.

  • @vashguud lmfao!

  • @kjsh987 Its for when you're hiking, and a bear attacks you. I carry a .44 whenever I hike (i live in alaska) but mine has a longer barrel. Hard as hell to hit anything with a short barrel like that.

  • whoopty doo, you shot some .44 special out of a short barrel .44mag.

grow some nads and put up a video of you shooting a 340gr Buffalo Bore +P+ .44mag round

  • @kylebucuk I agree fully. I run these through my Redhawk at the indoor range, and everyone stops shooting for a moment.

  • are those full loads?

  • wow you manage that recoil well for such a big round in such a tiny gun.

  • Nice vid, that should be enough gun to stop an angry grizzly.

  • I think everyone should learn to count shots almost sub-consciously. Know how many rounds you start with, count each shot so that you know when to stop and reload without dry firing.

  • how much you pay for that?

  • I have never owned a revolver. I am very comfortable with autos though. I am getting a 44M Marlin for a wedding gift so I can hog hunt. I woul like a sidearm, in the same caliber. S&W is expensive. Would the Alaskan be a sufficient sidearm to back-up during hog hunting. Thanks in advance.

  • Gotta nice gun man

  • I think this 44 be the ultimate conceal carry gun. Just read an article on this gun. It's definitely on my wish list and will soon be my regular carry in the future. Love it!!

  • @beacons4life1

If you dont mind carrying a brick around.

  • @MagneticDog I have a CA Pug 44spl 5 shot revolver, 3" bbl. Turns out it is pretty compact and light. Even so, most guns are too bulky to be a good every single damn day carry gun. So yeah, it's cool but want to carry it every day? I would rather take a .380 that can fit in my pocket over a cool gun. .44 Magnum is weaker than a .22LR if you left it home that day... so you're right. I consider my Glock 19 a bit of a brick... and it's compact!

  • i got a question i have seen on the internet that the .357 magnum JSP goes thru Type IIA

does the JHP then also go thru (some bulletproofvest)??

  • a bullet resistant vest is designed to stop normal projectiles (lead and copper) of a certain velocity bracket. type I will stop anything up to 1000 fps I believe. type IIA will stop most things up to 1300 fps (9mm, heavy 357 bullets) type IIIA which is the one I use will stop up to 1650 fps if memory serves. (almost all .357 an .44 magnum loads) but thats only a rating. I've heard of level IV's being penetrated by .22LR ammo.

  • bullet type doesn't matter. its the velocity.

  • @christofvongunter bullshit. mass/weight counts as much as velocity.

  • @HYBRIDCOMBATIVES Actually genius, if you wanna debate with me, look it up. ALL armor generally has a VELOCITY rating. Not an energy rating. Velocity is the key producer of force in projectiles. The faster a bullet is going, the faster it slows down when it hits something because the difference in velocity is higher. F=MA will show that a high negative acceleration has a lot more effect on force than a fractional increase in weight. you probably can't do math though... so this argument is null.

  • @christofvongunter Save your smartass for someone who cares. I have been doing this for a long time and as a combat veteran, tactical instructor, and gunsmith I actually have experience in ballistic testing and usage. I have "looked it up" and a great deal of "researched" data is everything from skeptical to down right bullshit. One shot stop data for a handgun is nonsense, and energy dump and KET is a myth.

  • @HYBRIDCOMBATIVES I think youre mistaking my comment for someone trying to argue that this ballistics of the round make it an effective personal defense round. I wasn't. My comment was regarding effectiveness against a ballistic vest or hard armor. I wasn't quoting independant research. I was quoting the manufacturer. The vest I was issued is a IIIA and rated for 1650fps.

  • @christofvongunter O my bad. LOL. In that then we agree. big slow moving bullets dont do well on armor. That is correct.

  • such nice gun

  • Wow - no flinch!

  • Hows the wolf action work for you....? Figured it did not matter shooting DA?

  • now thats how a man shoots a revolver

  • I used one of those spring kits to do a trigger job on my super redhawk. Between that and polishing the mechanism... What a DIFFERENCE!

  • looks gay,get an 8 inch barrel

  • @taliban939 7.5 and 9.5 inch are as close to 8 inch as you can get

  • okk,i was talking about a magnum

  • @taliban939 yeah- those are magnums. available in 44 mag, 454 casull, and 480 ruger calibers

  • man wait a sec,i just saw tday an 8inch barrel magnum .44?

  • @taliban939 model KSRH-7 is 7.5" barrel and model KSRH-9 is 9.5" barrel.

Other brands make an 8" barrel

  • omg,in poland, they sell 4,6 and 8 inch barrels only,lol

  • Comment removed

  • @75mm ok,i bought a .44 desert eagle yesterday cant realy aford anything else

  • Nice shootin!

  • @75mm tks

  • @taliban939 This Gun Is designed to fit in pockets, In small belt Holsters that don't get in your way, and also for Concealed Carry protection.. That means that to put an 8 inch Barrel on this gun is a Problem.. Don't like it? Then Get the model with the 9.5 inch Barrel, and let other's deside what they want..

  • @444bbla What kind of pants are you wearing that has pockets for a Ruger Alaskan?

  • Nice Gun! Looks amazing after you shoot and the hammer cocks back nice vid

  • Umm how does this shoot at 30 yards and 50 yards?

    on 44 magnum loads?

  • hey hows it goin, im looking to get a revolver for self defense but mainly for bears, mostly black bears. im trying to decide between a 357 or a 44 what would you recomend? and what has more or less recoil im guess 357 has a bit less

  • well the 44 alaskan is great, u can use 44 mag for bear etc, and use some 44 spl for self defense. 44 mag has more recoil than 357, but the 44 bullets are 240 grn to 158 grn for the 357.

44 was easy out of this revolver, and 44 special is fun to shoot

  • oh ok so you can use 44spl in the 44 mag i thought you could. but yeah im a big guy im 230 and really i probably wouldnt have a problem with 454 but i want someonething i can stay on target with and lace my shots where i want them

  • 454 isnt fun no matter how big one is, u arent much bigger than i. yes 44 spl silvertips work well as ccw. 44 in alaskan rules

  • so te recoil on the 454 is a bit much? lol yeah i want something i can place my shots and i hink a 44 is the way to go probably

  • @postal1911 250 grain wadcutters. I hate silvertips.

  • @postal1911 The way I hear it, no personal experience, is that a 44 won't do squat to a grizz unless its a well place shot. You'd either have to hit it through the snout or mouth or just below the mouth at his chest to hit his vertebra. You won't break any bones with a 44, at least not against a grizz or a brown bear.

So with that said a 357 mag is just as effective, the recoil will allow you to stay on target for a 2nd shot maybe a third shot and your wife can handle it too.

  • @chillichomper A .308 or a 7.62 WILL take out a bear with a head shot or a well place cavity shot. Most of the time bears are very single minded and focused on the task(or elimininating you) when POed and will not stop unless you've broken a leg with a shot or finished them. They don't go looking to go nutz on anyone but they don't like to be surprised either especially if they have young closeby.

  • @postal1911 I carry a ruger SP101 or a S&W 686 plus 3 inch for daily ccw, but I might get one of these stoked with .44 specials for CCW. Because I am stupid like that.

  • Do you think 45LC are adequate for grizz?

  • im not sure anything is,,,,,,, however, 45Lc can be loaded up to 44 mag stats, or u can get crazy and do the 454

  • C'mon, postal1911, come clean on what load you are using. Someone is going to go out and buy this gun and be in for a big/painful surprise when they shoot factory 454 Casull.

  • ok, this is not the 45colt/454 model it is the 44 magnum.... in the 1st part of the clip gato is shooting light 44 mags....second 6 rounds are full blown 44 mag... this revolver handle 44 mag better than any i have shot aka S&W 629, there is a bit of a kick with the full 44 mags, but it is very easy to handle, with light 44 mags it is like my 45 colt version i have...... i hope this clears this up for everyone...ALASKAN RULE FOR SHORT BARREL BIG BORE REVOLVER

  • Oh i do have the 45/454 version..... i do not shoot the 454 myself, too much recoil 4 me...45 colt works fine and i can shoot up to 300 grain for my needs

  • Smooth shooting, nice trigger control. Its difficult to do on a double action, especially with magnum recoil waiting for you at the end of the pull!

  • Hmm...that had to be .44 Special rounds!

  • Sounds like you're using .45 colt .

  • That gun would be good for home self defense, nice and compact to get out quickly in tight situations.

  • u must be using 44 special

  • Cool revolver. Sounded like good shooting. Some of the loads used seemed more like warmish .44 Special than Magnums.

  • It would be a nice gun if the barrel were longer. Snubby barrels just castrate the cartridge.

  • great video and good camera work, I own this firearms in 454 casull, Quite a bit of recoil but thats whats expected with a dangerous game round. Love this gun for its intended use.

  • this not are the recoil of .44 mag

  • Tell me little more about it, how it handles and recoil I am thinking about buying one but cant decide between 454 casull or 44 mag. What dou you think

  • 44 mag

  • 454 casull is expensive unless u wanna reload

  • Sounds like gato is pretty good with that thing, cool vid.

  • I sold my 454. Good pistol, but the ammo got too expensive.

The 44 magnum would not have this problem.

  • Those are some weak loads.

  • i have the .454 casull, where do you get the wolf spring kit?

  • from wolf springs..... type it into google, they arent expensive

  • It looks like a beast but you were handling it pretty well.

    IR

  • Thank goodness...finally someone that knows how to shoot double action!

    Good job!

  • wow!! were those .44mag loads, or .44 special...i have a s&w 629 from 1985(aes series) i wish mine had a more controllable recoil, like this alaskan...im impressed

  • wow!! I'm impressed with this gun the recoil looks manageable in .44. I'm sold on this gun, i gotta have one. thanks for this video!

  • How is the recoil?

  • Awesome gun. Would love to have one. Are you shooting .44 special or .44 mag in the vid. The recoil looks pretty tame.

  • first set was a light magnum, then some full boar

  • that thing is ugly as hell, and not in a good gun ugly kind of way. I bet its inaccurate like fuck too

  • nope hits everything its aimed at

  • thats what she said :P
