it's simple. ichigo's spirit is Zangetsu. and Zangetsu and Shirosaki are the same.

but Shrirosaki takes every chance to gain control of Ichi's body.

and while the Byaku-Ichi fight, Shirosaki popped up and boosted Ichi's power. but that was AFTER Ichi confused Byakuya with his speed. so Ichi does have to speed, but it isn't effective agains ulqiorra and the other espada.

but we do not yet completly know what happend when Ichigo dies in the fight of Ulqiorra.

well, the only reason the Hollow Ichigo can handle his Bankai because of the fact he and Zabgetsu are Ichigo's spirit energy. i'm not saying that speed is the most important thing but when you think about it, Ichigo's relying on it a lot because he doesn't have many cool moves like Renji, Byakuya, of the other Soul Reapers. between his Bankai, his Mask, and the Getsuga-Tensho, he's got a limited array of things to do that, for obvious reasons, spell out his eventual victory.

wtf. okay here we go a good al fashion bleach lesson. bankai is the final form of his Swords power. in that form he is wearing the clothes his sword wears. im sure you seen them in past episodes. it is not due to a surge of power. it is due to the sword. all bankai's work that way. so to put it clearly its not reiatsu its the sword. i think you would of noticed that by now. look at all the other bankai form.

everyone, remember what happened in the byakuya fight... he isn't as fast anymore because his body can't handle his bankai. for whatever reason his spirit body cannot handle his full bankai because he isn't dead yet. so until he dies (which main characters never do, unless they come back to life) we can expect to continue to see this weakened bankai. one reason he is faster as a vaizard is his hollow half seems to some how ignore this, or the high-speed regen. comes into play.

Kenpachi, though, beat a arrancar, the 5th arrancar, without a sweat. So that does tell you something. Plus, he was still in his hollow form, anyhow, for the mask was still on. It didn't go away until Ichigo used the last of his power to defeat Grimmjow. Also, the 5th arrancar killed Grimmjow. Ichigo let him live. (Slightly, btw).
