Don't mean to be offensive rugers are awesome firearms but I had the opportunity to hold this rifle and was very disappointed in the way it was. Compared to a normal Smith and Wesson M&P, a POF-415, or even my $150 airsoft gun it felt very weak.
I would advise looking at all your choices before choosing this one. =)
@waterboy330 i would have 2 disagree w/ u... u know its a 2 staged piston w/ an adjustable gas reg so depending on wut stage u were shootin it under it would b alot smoother.. hence bein very weak... if u want a lil bit more umph in the SR try the 6.8 SPC

I've got the same carbine, nice gun. Did you pick an optic yet? Here's some unsolicited advice. I went with the economical aimpoint style red dot/magifier set up from Primary Arms (aprox 150$). I also upgraded to magpul (window) mags, magpul CTR stock. Buffer tube ambi-sling plate with 2/3 point generic sling, ergo covers, generic chinese made light. Good quality/durable parts for the money. So for another 400 bucks or so your good, rather than spending 500-1000 on aimpnt or eotech alone.

I bent the cartridge when I used wolf (weak casing) but I had no probs with brass. I dunno it maybe mine is less tight.
But yes I felt really smart walking out of the gun shop with my Ruger; Top of the like Rail, Top of the line Iron sights, 3 Quality Magazines, Hogue grip, Flash suppressor.... I knew I wanted an AR and this Ruger just blows the competition away.
Its basically a standard AR with all the fixin's. Im very happy w/ my purchase, and Im hearing nothing but great reviews. :D

Hey Anthony (Jeigh428),....Thanks for the regulator adjustment vid man. I had been trying to hold back the little spring steel detent arm while I turned the knob, 'cause I thought it would bend it if I didn't,.....and that's hard to do by yourself. I felt kinda stupid after I saw your vid! Lovin' my SR-556 too! Keep puttin' them rounds downrange man! Jeff
@chanderson1 I did fire it on the day of "fun with persuader..." video, i didnt tape it but when i adjusted the regulator to "0" the gun fired only in single shot mode (pull the charging handle every shot) but it wasnt as silent as i thought (and hoped) but it was still fun to shoot! thanks for watchin man.
Yeah, I just watched that. Looks like you guys had some good times. That gas regulator is suppose to adjust to certain types of ammo. I think I have seen some videos where most everyone had the setting on (2) and it ran through all the ammo they tested. They ran Wolff ammo and I think they had set it to (3) and it ran the steel cases just fine too. I dont think it was meant to quiet the gun down any though. Thanks for the reply. @Jeigh428 heheheh single shot? the SR isnt a revolver =P if it was a single shot that would mean u would have 2 rack it everytime u shot the 556 its a "semi auto" aka self loading =P
@nsw550 You can get an Anti-tilt buffer for any piston AR system... Made custom to fit your bolt carrier... I have a video showing what it looks like and the website on where you can get it... Its about $100 but it will save your gun... If you need any more info contact me anytime...
Personally I don't think you can go wrong with this new Ruger, I'm not so sure about the sig, but personally I don't think you can get a better piston operated action than the Ruger SR556. But for AR's, I would go with a YHM Specter XL Lightweight Carbine. I've shot both and they're amazing guns!
you wouldnt go wrong with the ruger sr 556 , now if your still think on the sig though they are out with a sig 516 which is shown to retail cheaper(so looks like im might be puttn a new rifle on my next gun purchase list :) if the little woman gives the go if ya know what i mean. oh and gratz jeigh428 on your sr 556 :)

I too have the SR-556 and it is the best rifle for the money out there in my opinion, I have put about 2000 rounds through mine and going to clean the piston probably tomorrow or today. The good thing about this rifle is that you don't have to take the whole rifle apart to clean it. Just take out the piston, clean it and the hole its in, and your good to go.

i have not taken the regulator out, it scares me lol. i dont want to remove anything more than whats needed. i hear one shouldn't have to clean the piston assembly maybe once ever 1500 rounds. ill definetley have a gun smith show me first. im super precautious.
