I have a question concerning what John Piper said, the criminal will be let go in heaven. What if that criminal wasn't born again or water or spirit? Then what how do you answer that? Because like John piper said, here society doesn't work. What do you do?
"Love justy"... LOL John you really cracked me up hahahaha.. great answers hahaha, but thank you for the laugh! I don't know why I found it so irrefutably funny.. stilll laughing
Life imprisonment should be the punishment. No Christian can carry out or authorize the death penalty. That is vengeance, not justice. Vengeance is mine, sayeth the Lord. He who is without sin, let him cast the first stone. If abortion is murder, capital punishment is murder. Life imprisonment protects society. Capital punishment enslaves us to Mosaic law. Jesus brought the new covenant. Jesus will judge murderers. In Romans it says we all deserve death. Should we all be executed, then?
Dr. Piper says it well. And we have a biblical example of this situation. On the cross Christ forgave the thief beside Him and showed mercy, telling the man that he would be in Paradise with Himself that very night, but He didn't take the thief off the cross and relieve him of his debt to society.
@CEOcutter I do not deserve death and neither do you...no one DESERVES to die. That is so Bronze Age; please join us in the 21st century. There is no proof of an afterlife so why take away the one life for which there actually IS evidence?
I respect your outlook. You seem to be a pacifist and that's commendable. But as I said earlier: if you committed cold-blooded murder than you ought to want to die. A death sentence isn't a sentence to hell, just death.
it was just a thought...i am for the war and all that.
its about being biblical, not moral...i was just letting those words be recognized, because they are true, and i wanted to make sure....even death penalty is something that might not be something we should do.
easychan, if a person doesn't have same characteristics that Jesus has, I don't know if you could call him a christian... I agree that there a many folks around calling themselves christians and not walking the walk of their master, and I grieve for that. 1 john 2:6 he that saith he abideth in him ought himself also to walk even as he walked.
22 But I say to you that awhoever is angry with his brother 5without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, bRaca! 6shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, 7You fool! shall be in danger of 8hell fire. mt. 5:22
Yeah you're right. I forgot about that. But not all of us have the faith to forgive people who have hurt us.
Like that guy who planned the 911 attack. He will probably be executed. Not alot of people can overcome their anger towards him. But you are right, Jesus did say that.
Very hard intellectually to get my mind around as I search for the link between justice and mercy - if it is not solely the discernment of the Holy Spirit. In our walk, will the love of mercy inexorably lead one to do justice, or is it a balancing act which requires fervent prayer and seemingly disparate attention to both? For example, I have a brother who willfully engages in evil practice, do I pray for mercy on his soul and search for forgiveness, or do I plead for justice for his victims?

"Is it wrong to want mercy for a criminal who deserves capital punishment?"
This is a trick question. No one deserves capital punishment?
Jeez, what is it with christians and death?

You deserves capital punishment.

@CEOcutter "You deserves capital punishment."
For what crime do I deserve to be murdered?
UrukEngineer 3 months ago
@UrukEngineer
For your sin. Every sinner who ever live deserves death. Only by the grace and mercy of God are you still here right now.

@CEOcutter "Do Hitler deserve death?"
No one "deserves" death. That does not mean that someone like Hitler does not deserve punishment.

it seems like capital punishment is wrong because Jesus said "vengence is mine, i will repayeth"....
that is for all people to understand, even prison guards. No more eye for an eye....bless those who curse you....
capital punishment isn't turning the other cheek is it?

Yes, I agree. A death sentence isn't a sentence to hell, it's a sentence to death.
A man, or woman who has commited cold-blooded murder ought to want to die. His or her personal salvation from God is up to him or her.

Jesus said if you are angry you murder....do you want to die?...

I don't think Jesus said that. I think RedHatBlueShoe said that.

Jesus became angry when he saw the temple turned into a marketplace, yet he did not sin. Jesus is no murderer.
