and if you love this song. Check out Doves - "Catch the Sun" ... It feels the same as this song. Other great Swervedriver songs are Rave Down, Son of Mustang Ford, Sci-Flyer... Since "Raise", they never really did anything as emotional as this but oh well, "Raise" speaks volumes for the band.
I have the 12" of this on vinyl and would never, ever part with it. Swervedriver "Raise" was a one-in-a-million album not unlike My Bloody Valentine "Loveless" or Sonic Youth "Daydream Nation" or that first Dinosaur Jr album when they were still called Dinosaur. - Guess you had to be a shoegazer in the early 90's to really relate. I'm talking pre-rave scene, pre-stoner rock (Kyuss, QOTSA) - this was a genre unto itself.
My music was dying and my wife saved it .She bought 2 tickets to see swerevdriver at the troubador and it was like all brand new again. I love this band. I find it's really good to listen to before going in big surf. Very living in the now , to me anyway.
I missed them when they swung 'round to NY back in 2008. I think I was away on vacay or something. Still regret that one! Hope they do some more shows/play out in the near future. A huge fave from college days, almost wore out my 'Mescal Head' cassette over the years. 1993 that was, damn...
I do remember that the same night I first heard this song, I also got totally into "Mayonaise" by Smashing Pumpkins for the first time. It's a different feeling, but is also like this song - another of my "play to death" songs!
Yes, the Japanese edition includes "Planes over the Skyline" and "Year of the Girl." "Planes over the Skyline" can also be found on the "Juggernaut Rides" Swervedriver compilation and is a kick-ass song. I've never heard "Year of the Girl."
Totally agree about missing out on Never Learn. It's one of the few things I can put on constant repeat and listen to all night, and too hard to describe because it brings up so many feelings - and I'll never lose any of them! Dreamy is definitely one though!!
the video is only at 1:42, but i already know i'll feel cheated when i don't hear this dovetail into 'never learn'... that this band wasn't huge, and that most of the indie kids in my area hated them so much i'll never understand.
Beautiful atmospherics, sublime artistry, combined with such smooth technique and dream-like abandon; what more could you ask for from a rock band? ++++
The Portland Reunion show kicked ass, and this was played next to last, "Rave Down" being the last track. Goddamn Swervedriver still kicks much ass to this day.
No, Swervedriver/Swervies, whatever the hell you want to call them. I meant that Love Battery are part of the grunge scene as opposed to shoegazing, but I find their sounds similar in some aspects.
I saw these guys at a small club called The Trubador in Hollywood CA back in 2000. They were my favorite band at that time. I have all of their CD's. The show was phenomenal! To bad they broke up. Adam Franklin is a genius!
Unfortunately nothing tangible, but the memories are plenty. Swervedriver really loved a live setting - three encores and the packed out crowd was begging for more!(:
these guys were the greatest! most memorable times in tha 90's and timeless soundtrips! they were not done faily at all during that time. Swervedriver, ...incredible guitar sounds that stamped my mind forever. pure escapism!
I can't believe how much I miss these guys. And this track is one of my favorite tunes from last decade. I wore out my Mezcal Head CD. I'm on my second one now. I highly recommend picking up their Juggernaut Rides double CD from 2005. It's a best of and includes all of their singles prior to the Raise album.
i saw swervedriver at treforest university shafts nightclub! from what i can remember they did an excellent live performance! mad! one of my favourite bands playing fairly near to my home!(a pretty obscure band as well.) i had my best (vision street wear) customized jacket on! lol!
one of my favorite tracks of all time. the combo of never lose that feeling/never learn on the mezcal head album is genius. i miss these guys so much.
Absolutely awesome band! Saw them live 10 years ago and still rates as one of my favorite ever gigs. I can't think of another band that combines melody and power to such effect.
haha I just thought to check if anyone had added any comments. stowaway2000 I agree - I pick Swervedriver too and for the same reason! I once sprayed 'never lose that feeling' in red paint across the inside wall of my lounge...
i first heard this song on a yacht in the hamilton islands, Australia (not rich, just lucky). blew me away then and still does today. couldn't have said it better ashisfree. if i can only take one band from the 90's i'm picking swervedriver. fantastic guitar work.
wow I am sooo happy so many other people in the world like this band the way i do - simple my favourite band ever since i heard the sandblasted ep in about 91. i have about everything they ever did on cd and vinyl. check out les thugs if you like this - another gem of a band who like the swervies didn't get the recognition they deserved!!! AAAAAAgh when you think of the crap that most people listen to instead of great stuff like this.
they are huge in the states, well bigger than here! i remember i had to order their albums here, in the states they couldn`t keep the albums in the shops, and Mezcal Head had planes over the sky line as a bonus track
They are were like the Motorhead of Shoegaze music....that was sort of a disgusting comparission but rather true.

uh, why didn't you just use the sudio from the actual song off of the CD? you can use any A/V editing program that accepts multiple A/V formats-
step one: import said video into the software app.
step two: mute, or remove the exsisting ausio track.
step three: import the audio from the CD ( you may need to have the audio file on your hard drive before preforming this)
step four: balance the audio and make sure your levels do NOT go above zero DB,e.g. NO CLIPPING.
