My thoughts exactly! I did one of these last year. Put an '03 Cobra IRS into a 2000 'Stang GT. We upgraded EVERYTHING with a Maximum Motorsports package, poly bushed everything, shimmed the pinion angle, all heim joints etc. My complaint is same as yours: very 'home made' feeling from the factory. Crappy fit, required to many swings of the BFH and cursing to get the lower control arms back in upon reassembly.

The reason it knocks when the tail housing is removed is because the bearing race is no longer seated properly.
