Anyways, in my experience, I've known this for a while actually. With tiny earphones/earbuds, you have to NEARLY eat the earphone to get proper mic signal (in combination with MAX microphone volume), but with larger headphones like what you were using they are better for getting a proper microphone signal.

This works, because headphone speakers work the EXACT same way as a dynamic (on-stage-looking) microphone. It uses a moving voice coil. In fact, if you plug in a stage-like microphone into your headphone jack (with the right adapters), it will actually work as a very quiet speaker. (you can find those microphones for as low as $20 at bestbuy in the "musical instrument section, but depending on the mic, a '6.5mm to 3.5mm' adapter would be required to plug into your mic jack)

@joshrewl If you have an editing program, just turn up the volume of your audio. Otherwise speak about 6 inches from the headphones and speak louder

@YieldFbs Well, if you wanted to use the headphones(They don't have the best quality but they work) Then make sure that the end, that you plug in, has black two rings around it. Then put it in the Mic jack and use sound recorder or something to test it.
