50 or 60 crickets can be sadistically executed by means of a large, heat proof container and a full kettle of boling water. Try not to salivate as the kettle reaches critical point... Do crickets have brains? Wonder what they think when my mantids are eating them face first?
I like the idea. I used to try keeping ants, but every time, mold took over and killed them.
BTW, I gather this would not be a good idea to leave unattended if there is more than 1 person in the house...otherwise the next person to pick up the cup may take a sip thinking it's coffee...then...lol
No, definitely not. There are some cold spots in the microwave machine, where the microwaves wouldn't reach the insect. Boiling water is the easiest way to kill and desinfect them. You can kill them in the fridge before that.
After u freeze the crickets and the ants are ready to eat, do they just take it straight, or do u need to cook the crickets medium rare lol ? Or do u just let the crickets thaw first?
These are 8 legged tiny creatures, which live on organic waste. There are also a lot of parasitc mites, which live on the body fluid of animals and humans.
Hört sich bei dir richtig schlimm an. Liegt wohl an deren Größe, dass sie ein wenig länger im Wasser überleben. Es geht auch andersherum. Zuerst einfrieren, dann bei Bedarf überbrühen.
I will never look at my cup the same way ever again. =)

Can you you feed them directly after boiling them and drying, or do you have to put them in the freezer?

freezing would even more make sure that all possible mites are dead so your colony wont get infected.

I always throw them into hot water before serving. Just to make sure that all parasites are dead.
