I'm glad they're doing more Trigun stuff, the series ending felt so rushed it was like "Here let's make half the series about the gung ho guns and give Knives half an episode while we recap everything in the first part of the last episode, and the expect the viewers to believe Knives changes after 130 YEARS of hating humans in a single day."
Watched the Japanese version, To be honest this movie sucked and had nothing to do with the series it was just a cheep attempt to squeeze life out of a series that ended more than 10 years ago... it's sad i really like the series and i want to like this movie but, it's really bad.....
@Sungetsu15 Yep. Johnny has been very busy with other roles, so he probably doesn't remember how he exactly he was supposed to portray Vash's tone. That, or it could be because of the different ADR director. Having the same director from the original Trigun probably would've forced Johnny to sound much more accurate to how he originally portrayed Vash. They changed the director and replaced all the secondary characters like Wolfwood, Meryl, and Milly. At least they got Luci Christain for Meryl.
@ElegeantFencer Well, look at Cowboy bebop... Steve Blum voiced that in 2001 and he voiced the movie I think 2 years later and he still sounded the same.
@22thesonicfan Because it was only 2 years later for the Bebop movie. Trigun came out in 2003, now it's 2011. Much bigger gap. Theres an interview from gamerguy with Johnny you can find on youtube where he admits that his voice was quite different from a decade ago.
@Sungetsu15 Oh ok I was just wondering. I have not seen this movie but I want to because I loved the series. So it's been awhile of course the voice actor should be the same. Because that can turn a true fan of the anime series away from buying the movie, just because of voice change. But as long as the original guy is voicing the guy it should be ok.
@GinkoArtEtc Oh ok I was just wondering. I have not seen this movie but I want to because I loved the series. So it's been awhile of course the voice actor should be the same. Because that can turn a true fan of the anime series away from buying the movie, just because of voice change. But as long as the original guy is voicing the guy it should be ok.
@GinkoArtEtc That's true, that would also explain why Johnny sounds kind of different. Still, it's great to see Vash with an updated look and the original voice actor.
@GinkoArtEtc Tell that excuse to the guy who has been doing Optimus primes voice for the last decade. Don't make excuses for professional voice actors.
@kenshinro7 But Peter Cullen's voice was fully matured. Johnny has to emulate a voice he had in his early 20's. Peter Cullen was in his 30's/40's when he voiced Optimus. Personally, I don't notice a huge difference anyway.
@Erk1234567 Ok a professional keeps the same voice, some other person made an excuse on here. This guy does this for a living. Like you said Peter Cullen aka Optimus prime voice guy sounds the same. and so does the guy who plays Elmo's voice. Their full grown man. I think that when these people meet the voice actors at cons then they believe they can do no wrong or something. It's there job. But I agree with your comment, I bought the movie it was ok, I expected more, but I love the tv series
@kenshinro7 I understand what you're saying. I'm mainly giving Johnny the benefit of the doubt because this was his first voice over role, and that can be hard to replicate. At any rate, what did you find off about this movie? I haven't purchased it yet. Was it the tone or the action or the lack of consequence it had to the Trigun continuity in general. So long as the action's decent. and they didn't ruin the characters, I'm sold.
When this occurred in the series it was much funnier plus it does not play quite the same. Also despite trying to match the voices to how they originally sounded I think there off a little. All in all though I think this will be worth getting. :)
@Koolag1 They changed Wollfwood, Meryl, and Millie's voices though. Vash is the only one who kept his original actor. Though the actresss playing Meryl an almost does a perfect reprsentation of her original actress. Milly, I don't know what to say. I think she's ok. Wolfwood's new voice sounds "cooler', but it lacks Jeff Nimoy's warm touch.
@ElegeantFencer Yes I do think wolfwood has a much cooler voice and although Vash is being voiced by the same actor sometimes it sounds like a different actor. All in all I think they have done quite well with the movie version.
@DrayFan12 I like good anime. See how that works? I previewed this and am moving on. You should do the same, but can't, because you have mental problems.
@A1R5N1P3R I suppose it would be a bit difficult to appreciate the little humor and significance in this clip without first being familiar with the character (Vash)..
I don't know what Nightow has against his own creation Gazelle The Peacemaker, but since he isn't in the manga, the series, or even this friggin movie, would it be too much to ask if such a badass the likes of Mr. Gazelle if he had his own movie or series for crying out loud?????!!!!!
@DarkwingGeese Funimation may have recasted virtually all the old roles with their own voice actors, but they were gracious enough to actually get Johnny Yong Bosch to play Vash.
I wanted to hear the best laugh in all of anime.
