I dont think you are playing this right at all. And i think they are Barre chords not power chords...

I got e6 a8 d8 g7 b6 e6 as the first chord. 4 times up down up down then it goes to e3 a5 d5 g4 b3 e3 5 times down 4 and up 1. I think you are way off with the strokes and frets. and it just doesn't sound right. your way is the lazy way.

These specific notes are correct, however Nirvana tuned a 1/2 step down and if you watch videos of them live, Kurt played the open note power chord as opposed to the barre power chord where applicable (for example: the A-flat note in the opening riff is played open instead of the 5th fret).....so basically if you want to play this song the way Kurt played it, watch live videos.

@apriltragedy this is true of them playing live but all songs on Nevermind are recorded in standard E with the exception of Something In The Way (CGCFAd) and Drain You (DGCFAD). The reason they drop tuning live is so it is easier to sing the songs. A lot of bands do this.

I know this is totally 100% correct with sprinkles on top...xD but one thing I do not get still, is in the video, Kurt Cobain is playing the main riff and the intro at the second Fret. I also saw some tabs that were like that where you played off the second fret. I do not remember where or what it was but if that is the way Kurt played it then it must be correct. But the way you play sounds 110% correct so that is the thing I still do not get. Any thoughts?

Probably the tuning... after nevermind they played half a step down so he probably moved it up to sound like normal tuning

you dont have to play power chords if you arent advanced enough. you can just play the first and second string then learn the power chords later
