Does anyone remember Tom (TJ) McIntyre? I know he was in VD-3 possibly from 43-46(?). Dad passed away two years ago, and most of his Navy memorabilia was lost a long time ago. He was a tail gunner and a petty officer that loaded the flash bombs.
I think this PB4Y-1 looks as if it started of life looking like a standard B-24D and later it had the nose turret fitted at a conversion centre like many Pacific based USAAF B-24Ds.I didn't know USN planes received such mods as well. Seems a useful mod though considering Japanese fighters liked to attack greenhouse nosed B-24s head on ...
I guess I am new to the party. this is a great video. My dad, Neil Porter was a LCDR at the time and in VD-3. He is still going strong at 97+. I will get this video to him. I am sure he will like it.
I thought that might be you, Alan. That is a truly superb snippet of World War II color film of the kind we'd all like to see more of. I was touched by the way the footage was handled and presented. Excellent work.
very slow video !
