Hey guys ;-D Jo is great for her technique (one of the best among today sopranos), her unique coloratura voice and as well as her fantastic musicalities, You can't really compare with other type of soprano like Callas, Netrebko, etc. because they are not belong in the same category of soprano voice. If you absolutely need to compare, please compare her with the sopranos who have the same type of voice like; Sutherland, Dessay, Caballe, Gruberova, Damrau, etc. Cheers, O.
Very few sopran roles were not sung by Sumi Jo. She has never sung any Wagner role. I do not know she has wagnerian sound (I am not a classical music expert). However I think she could sing Isolda as well, she is a great singer.
Isolde needs a stronger figure, i.e. Anna Netrebko, ... Even though Sumi Jo belongs to the best sopranos in the world, she is far too tiny for that role. Besides, she claims that singing Wagner only would, on the long run, spoil every good voice.
But you can find her singing Jazz, and she does damn well !!! Just search youtube for her with "besame mucho" !!

The Callas was famous at her times. Nowadays,. a Callas would simply drown in comparison to somebody like Sumi Jo. The Callas is many many many years in the past, they didn't know better.
If you really try to compare, then you can compare the Callas much better with Netrebko than with Sumi Jo
@jhstha I am not a classical music expert. I found Sumi Jo is an excellent singer. I can not do any debate with you, because lack of knowlwdge on this area.

Completely and utterly superb, don't know how I missed this one for so long.
If Sumi Jo sang my shopping list it would be a master piece!
No other has or will ever match her in my humble opinion. Voice, beauty, grace dignity she has them all in abundance.

BTW...the quality and colour of voice is another matter cause it's a matter of personal taste :-)) Anyway I love Sumi Jo..such an inspiration!
