  • the low whistle of mcgoldrick is a overton whistle(now colin goldie whistle)

  • Fred Morrison is just one of those people you want to meet.

  • How exactly do I upload this onto my iPod?!?!?!!?!

  • 3:13 What in the blazes?!?

  • @misterdaviddude Sir, you just witnessed pure awesome. Congratulations, you can die happy.

  • anybudy know what the notes for the greigs pipe the high notes

i have the low notes of this , so i dont know the continue to play

  • Whats teh Name of the Tune after *The Lochaber Badger*?

  • @Ragnar635 It's "RIP the calico"..

  • @Ragnar635 It's "RIP the calico".. a really fast reel :p love to play that one

  • @basis64 Not necissarily a very fast reel. Lovely when played slower as well.

  • Fred is playing an MK whistle made by Misha Somerville. Very nice instruments.

  • Jerry Douglas is fantastic!!

  • Michael is playing an overton (I have one in black), not too sure what fred is playing.

  • What whistles they're playing?

  • (¡Aplausos!)

  • Umh on which tones are that flutes??D?

  • They're called Low D Whistles.. Just like the penny whistles, but an octave lower and a lot more expensive.

  • im defo becomin a pipe player now....ill see ye n 24 years:D

  • The joy etched on Fred's face every time I see him play inspires me constantly. He just loves it so much and he has reason to. He just breathtaking. A brilliant display by everyone here. Loving the videos, keep them coming.

  • omg that is sick , amasing musicians

  • what key are these tunes in?

  • Hey there thelockmyster !

That would be the key of D .

  • Outlands is a fantastic new album -a completely new sound with brilliant interplay between the pipes and the bluegrass instruments

  • I thought that this episode of sessions was great, loved the 'he reached down' song despite the jesus worship.

  • *clap clap clap clap clap clap*:)

  • Fucking wizard.

  • The first two tunes are on his new album Outlands which I have just bought. It is a fantastic album.

  • trop beau et en plus c'est un bon prof

  • Really enjoyed the three new tracks on Freds MYSpace website -fantastic vibe and -as usual- outstanding playing

  • I'd have loved to be in that room!

  • they're actually fred morrison small pipes

  • check out my video response, a michael mcgoldrick tune, honesty bar from his album Wired!

  • The best is the best

  • What kind of pipes is Fred Morrison playing? Or are they Uilleann pipes that he's holding differently? They don't sound like Uilleann pipes though.

  • Either Scotish low-land pipes or North Humbrian pipes.

  • The pipes Fred is playing are "reel pipes". HIs own invention I believe.

  • Give the man a dram. :)

  • I did good?

  • they're from scotland and no, they aren't his invention =)

  • Scottish smallpipes..I believe he makes them. They have the same fingering as Highland pipes, and usually are built in A, D, or B flat.

  • They're border pipes.

  • perfeeccccttt wonderfull

  • lovely.

  • Tom - I also subscribed. Greetings from Oz!

I am indebted to you for all your posts, and expecially for allowing me to discover Fred Morrison - I need never have the blues again! Just watching Fred's face as he performs his wonderful music....... fabulous!

  • Whens Fred's new album coming out?

  • its gettin launched at piping live festival in glasgow, 10th august i think

  • Thanks! Can't wait.

  • One word...Magic! couldn't be anything else with these guys..... :)

tomtscotland - virtually all vids you have here are wonderfull, it's a great collection...keep 'm coming! I subscribed anyway. Thanks!

  • It's one of the best music videos i've ever seen...

  • The last song is Rip The Calico, not the badger ;-)

  • I wish I could have that much fun at MY job!

  • I know, they all look like they're having an absolute blast! SO awesome.

  • loving it the slide is such a nice combo with low whistle

  • 3:20 secs.... Heavenly!

  • AMAZING

  • wat whistle is fred playing

  • It looks like a low whistle by MK at mkwhistles(dot)com. They are excellent low whistles.

  • My God... Absolutely fantastic,

    Many thanks, Breandán

  • the first two tunes are some of my all time favorites....its amazing music. I can play lochaber quite well, but farewell to uist just doesnt sound very good when I play it...

  • AweSoMe!

  • Lovely music. It's good to see real artist taking such joy in their noble art!

    Slàinte!

  • Beautiful work. Thank you tomtscotland for uploading and thank you arkhatych for sharing.

  • incredible

  • Cool! What people will do without such a beautifull music.

  • lovely!!!!!

  • increible!

  • Thanks guys for sharing. I'm just a novice and am inspired when I see/hear such beauty. Thanks!

  • wonderful work!!

  • this video is awesome! it is what got me interested in Low D whistles.

  • i thought the name of the last tune was Rip the Calico, not rip the badger...

  • It is, they probably just accidentally put it that way

  • Does anybody have the music sheet for the pipes on the second fast tune? It's awesome! Thanks!

  • The second tune is The Lochaber Badger, and you can find the tunes on thesession(dot)org

  • I believe you can find The Lochaber Badger in Fred's book as well, though I'd have to look and double check...

  • WhistleCollector and kaypiob are both correct...the Lochaber Badger is in both places. However, I highly recommend getting his book of settings for his original pieces. Fred Morrison is an incredible composer and there are some awesome tunes in the book that aren't availble in the pub dom.

  • Agreed!! Fred is amazing! And a nice guy to boot!

  • anyone notice mike is a southpaw, that shite is rare!! this piece is tha shit

  • Great posting, thanks. The waltz is astoundingly beautiful, the Lochaber badger pretty funky. Does anyone know where the name Lochaber badger came from?

  • love it! the first tune is beautiful the second one is really catchy

  • i would like to know what tune this is

  • The first is "farewell to uist", a scottish song

  • Farewell to Uist, The Lochaber Badger, RIP the Badger:

  • just haunting

  • Amazing!

  • Is there some kind of special name for those flutes? and if yes could anyone tell me?

Oh and I love this song to by the way ^^

  • They're Low Whistles.. most likely in D.

  • They are indeed Low D whistles. The one McGoldrick is playing looks like an Overton whistle; the one played by Morrison looks like an MK.

  • so very good. i think fred is a true genius - he is always sounding so fresh and intersting.

    Why not tune flutes though?

  • Anyone know who is playing Dobro?

  • Click "more" top right :)

  • Jerry Douglas

  • @syllogism314 Jeryy douglas

  • Jerry Douglas. He's been around a while in bluegrass and country circuits, including Alison Krauss and Union Station. He has also recorded with Tony Rice, J.D. Crowe, Ricky Skaggs, and many others. A number of good albums out under his own name as well.

  • Wow!....... Fred Morrison is INCREDIBLE!!! He always smiles when he play smallpipes! 5/5

  • Fred is one of those few people whose heart is 10,000% into everything he does!

  • Yes, he's inspiring...

  • this is awesome what albums are these on?!

  • starts out slow and peaceful and ends fast and frantic! like a good night of drinkin'!

  • absolutely brill!whats this tune called?

  • First is Farewell to Uist, Second is The Lochaber Badger and Third is RIP the Badger!

    Beatiful set by the way!

    Cheers for sharing!

  • Great! McGoldrick rocks as usual! Thanks for the vid!

  • you mistake cheese for talent.

  • Indeed

    Gabh port!

  • The envy is an ugly beast,eh?

  • That'll be enjoyment of great music played very well. I thought it was infectious but obviously you are immune to joy. Lucky you.

  • the fuck are you talking about?!

  • patchbod's comment:

"why do they have to be so cheesy about it! ugh" -patchbod

    patchbod = homo

  • k....sorry

  • can anybody tell me where i can find the sheet music to this song? thanks.

  • .......

  • In Fred Morrison's book I hope???

  • Incredible... I follow each of them, and the performance is the best!

  • I've said it before, but SUAS E!

  • Absolutely superb musicianship throughout . Not necessarily for the purist , but to me, Donal Lunny hasn't hit a wrong note in 30 some years. Plus, he knows how to pick his frontmen. (And yes, that includes Moving Hearts...)

  • Rip the Calico seems a tad fast but very rousing, at least for me. Love Lochaber Badger especially though, wonder tune, and that dobro fits nicely. Not sure what Fred was thinking there with replacing an entire phrase with a repeated ornament though.... good nonetheless, and wow, Donal Lunny certainly looks different than when he was with The Bothy Band...

  • wonder*ful* tune I meant to say...

  • hello,

Im trying to playalong listening to the song... i almost got it i think... by still you guys are sooo coool. love to see people enjoy there music while they play.. and thats what you can hear when you play... i will try and get it as well... have to buy e new low whistler though ghehe... they dont sell in my country

    have lots of fun

    take care

    Jaydon

  • amazing!!!! loved it!!!

  • that was amazing!! those are uillean pipes, right? love it

  • Mike's playing uilleann pipes, while Fred is playing reelpipes. Check out reelpipesdotcom for more info on those.

  • If someone's interested, I(ve just posted a transcription of the first tune on thesession dot org

  • Well done and Thank You! You did a better job than me lol.

  • OH MY GOD!!

    WONDERFUL

  • Did anybody know where I could the whistle which Fred plays here....

    Tommy =))

  • Sorry I mean if anybody know where I could buy Fred morrison`s whistle???

    Tommy

  • Google for MK Whistles by Mischa Somerville.

  • Hey Thank you a lot

    thank you!!!!

    Greetings

    tommy

  • Hope you've got plenty of dosh!

  • wow, so much fun

  • i love this tune...

  • this is wonderful!! I love the enthusiasm that Fred has when he plays!!

  • Oh my!!! So very talented musicians!!!

I wish in Brasil we would have decent tv shows like this one....

  • i luv it heard mike mcgoldrick on mike hardin show but the first bit of this set i think is great the bit

  • Suas e!

  • Fred is obsessed with music. He never sleeps, I spent some time with him a few years ago in Cape Breton and he would stay up all night playing tunes by himself. He's amazing! Nice guy

  • Does anyone know whether the title 'Farewell to Uist' is real or an error? Last I know, Fred Morrison hadn't named the waltz that he plays alongside Lochaber Badger, and farewell to Uist is a very different tune, but it is possible the two have the same name.

  • There goes musicians' such a fantastic combination. Thank you very much for making ourselves be able to enjoy this document!. Greetings from Galicia !.

  • Did Fred play any more in this secession?

  • ...not so far - but other programmes still to be broadcast - so watch this space!

  • Great music -Fred makes it look so easy -the sure sign of a master performer .This is an excellent combination of skills for all the players...lets see more like this -makes a change from the strained glum faces

  • Amazing, even when i miss transatlantinc sessions on the telly i can always rely on finding it on youtube. does anyone know if Lochaber Badger is a Fred Morrison tune?

  • Yes can be found in his new book on page 47

  • .
