Fine, you love flying. Once you go through the enormous expense and years of training, don't work for nothing. Is that difficult to understand? The commuters will pay what the market will bear. I have been in this business my whole life, I'm 50. I fly a 747. Trust me. It is a job. And it's grueling and tiring. I would not do it for nothing. Our salaries have been hammered by guys who "love to fly" and "will fly for food." If you want to be poor your whole life, then sell out and screw us. THX

why discriminate the guy was just posting a short video about how to c=become a pilot if u kno u didnt wanna see it why watch it i think this vid was a bit useful
i think the biggest attraction to this job is the fact you are flying through the air. As for the rest of it it would just become a familiar machine like a flying bus. THe most attracting thing about this job is the serenity and views. THats what i love about flying is the amazing views of looking down through massive layers of clouds. you just can't get that feeling on the ground. I think that is what most pilots live for and not the actual machine.
I flew my first solo at 13 hours on my RA-AUS license. Also, I'm 16, so I don't know what this 45 hours and 30th lesson thing is. Perhaps different regulations in Australia? Reply if you have any info on this, I'm intrigued.
@aidler2 He means it takes 45 hours of flying to get your PPL. And he means on your 30th lesson, (hour) you go on solo. But obviously he made a mistake on the 30th lesson part
Actually there's a much easier way to become an airline pilot! Become an air force pilot first. You'll get a superb training with lots of experience and flying hours, which are crucial to getting a job at a major airline. What you described in your video is probably the hardest, the most expensive, and the least guaranteed way to become an airline pilot!
Cheers for all the positive comments everyone - for the people who feel the need to insult, this was many years ago, I was 14 when I recorded this video on a slow computer with a shite old joystick.
@uksimmer I've been an airline pilot all my life. Flying a 747 now internationally, making less money than I made 20 years ago! My only question is: "Why would anyone want to be an airline pilot??" If I had stayed at McDonalds in High School, I could be a regional Manager by now!
this is one of the worst how-to guides ive ever seen for becoming a pilot. if you follow his plan, you will spend alot of money, have a bunch of unnecessary ratings, and not be an airline pilot!
Nice video, good info...But what about the log hours between Commercial and ATPL? 200-1500...By the time you have your commercial you are around 250-300 logged hours and ATPL requires 1500. Most regionals want 500 or more. Might want to count on getting your CFI, CFII, MEI, MEII to get those log hours as an instructor because First Officer is still a long ways off.
Not necessarily the most accurate video when it comes to becoming an airline pilot...the very general at most. There are MANY hurdles, and several more licenses (commercial) to obtain, as well as some time building jobs, before a pilot can even come close to flying for a major airline. But, nice work with MS Flight Sim
@jpilot101 actually... I disagree. Strongly. A rating is a new operating privilege within a given category and/or class which can act as a renewal thus not needing a flight review for another 24 calendar months by proving your at the PTS Standard set forth by the FAA. An endorsement is based off proficiency. There is no standard set forth by the FAA. Once you show proficiency in the operation of what the FAA states in 61.31 the authorized instructor gives your the endorsement in AC 61.65.
What is a 'Night Rating'??? Do more homework dude. How about the ever elusive '$100 hamburger rating' or the highly anticipated 'Heavier than air' balloon endorsement???
its a very spendy profession. I dropped $37,000 getting me from 0 hours to 230. i now have my commercial rating, but you spend money to make money. Doctors and lawyers go through the same thing. If you stick it out, you'll make bank
I just went to a university that offers aviation as a major. Its called Minnesota

There's a big difference between becoming an airline pilot on fsx and becoming one in reality. There's no crap music in the background in reality, thank god.
The night rating and private pilot cert. are one and the same in the US, because you are trained in X-countries at night sometimes and we are only required 40hrs before the PPL checkride
just like i wanna be a pilot, i bought fsx to learn the basics of flying for head start and im currently at school plus working to save up money for aviation.

When you are ready to solo the instuctor asks you to let him out and it is just you and the airplane. It is one of the highlights of any pilots training and is never forgotten.
do fly with flight simulator? im also 13 and have been flying on a computer flight simulator and i am actualy really good at it now and i could have a jump start when i get my licesne
What country do you live in and what association do you learn to fly with? ages are different for different country's and other associations will only take in people above certain ages.
Go to a flight school or your local airport. Get your private license. This takes about 50-70 hours average. Than get your instrument rating. Than multi-engine rating. Than commercial rating. You need to build flight time by renting or getting your CFI. When you have between 400-800 hours of total time and 100-200 hours of multi time, you can apply to most regional airlines. I know this because I'm an airline pilot flying for the second largest regional airline based in Texas. Good luck!!!
but in my hometown of montreal air transat(not regional) is accepting pilots that have just 400 hours to fly an a310 or a330!there is a shortage of pilots.
You are a beginner though right? Congrats! Yea, I am 15 turning 16 this summer. I have never had flying lessons yet but probably not until I am in college. Well as long as it happens someday. That is so cool how you are a pilot now and only 16. I will probably be like 19 or 20 when I will go. Flying is so cool though right? Can't wait till the day comes. Good luck!
i am 13 years old and i already have a Student Pilot License from the 'Air Australia ' obtained from Jandakot Airport. I am still doing training flights and i can't wait 'till i'm 16 because then i get to do solo flights in a C 152, then a C 172 Skyhawk. Then i can train in the Mooney Bravo 20JC. The only thing i'm not really looking forward to is the solo NAVEX courses... seem a little daunting to me, but maybe it won't be so bad!
im in the exact position as you fspilot, 15, turnin sixteen in february of next year, dont have the money right now to take lessons and 90% probability that i wont take any lessons until college if i can go to an aviation college, still hope to be an airliner pilot though
Not really... Oh, and it helps to spell SIMULATOR the right way... Your flying is crazy btw so I assume you aren't really a pilot. Interesting video though.
ok, so i see that you used flaps, but how did you get it to record more that 20-30 seconds? for some reason my longest is 31 seconds that is all it will capture please help me!!!
In Mexico you need 42 hours for your PPL. For the CPL you need your PPL and 139:30 additional hours (155 VFR, 15 IFR & 10 Twin engine) What makes a total of 181:30 hrs :)
In the FAA you MUST HAVE WITH NO EXCEPTION a PPL and an Instrument Rating before you can even be trained for the COM rating. If you have objections then please refer to the the FAR Part 61 for clarification.
WRONG. You dont need a PPL and an IFR. You can start working on your commercial right away. The reason why people do that is so they can have the required 250 hours of fliht time( 80 PPL average and aroun 100 IFR + rest solo) I know a few pilots that dont have a PPL and fly for the airlines.
HUH....what planet is this....i work for continental connection under part 121 and you cannot get your CPL without having your PPL first......what on earth are you talking about????
Great job,and those of you who find it odd to solo at your 3oth lesson, its quite common amoung older guys. Its picked up so much faster while your young, later,it takes a bit longer to learn, doesnt mean your horrible. and as frustrating as it is for someone to not grasp it as quickly as they thought, the last thing they need is for people to ridicule.anyone doing something with their lives should be highly praised, no matter the rate @ which they excel.
Nice video you put togeather, but to clarify: There is no "Night rating". A PPL enables you to fly at night in VFR conditions. And most people solo around their 10th lesson. Most people usually go Private-Instrument-Multiengine-Commercial-CFI and/or ATP. I myself plan to be a CFI until I'm out of college.
Actually there IS a night rating in the JAA (Joint Aviation Authority) system. 30 lessons is also typical for a solo as well. JAA is a bit different than the FAA or ICAO system and it is used throughout Europe and many other countries... but as an FAA rated ATP going through this training I can tell you be thankful if you never have to do it!
there is .... not on your FAA license but if you fly in canada let's say they u CANNOT fly at night with just ur ppl you need to get an additional rating :)
Well, everyone goes at their own pace, but 30 LESSONS?! I'd have to say, you must have horrible airmenship to solo after 30 lessons, which may be well OVER 60 hours! Most people get their damn PPL cerfiticate before then!
well your mostly right and first let me see i give you crdit for taking the time to put this together. now the order in wich your ratings/liscences usually go are Private Pilot Instrument rating Multi rating Commercial rating CFI ATP p.s you dont need a special rating to fly night time as long as you have a minimum visibility and your not in fog, clouds, etc it is still considerd VFR. Thanks go check out some of my videos.
I got my Commercial rating before my multi, but other than that, thats the order I did it it, but I through in CFII. never got the CFI ME. Guess it depends on what you want.
are you kidding me? "about your 30th lesson you'll solo", well I guess that when money is not a problem you can take your time, but I solo my 8th class.
Ah crap I knew I forgot something. Nah... It seems like that is pretty normal in the US from what I gather. 30th lesson seems like alot before a solo. Not that I would want someone to solo that wasn't ready because they felt they were behind. Everyone is different. I actually just got my license at 44 hours and 28 lessons.
Too bloody expensive...

I forgot to tell, for the ATPL you need at least 2500 hours. Regards!

In Mexico you need 42 hours for your PPL. For the CPL you need your PPL and 139:30 additional hours (155 VFR, 15 IFR & 10 Twin engine) What makes a total of 181:30 hrs :)
PilotSchatz 4 years ago
In the FAA you MUST HAVE WITH NO EXCEPTION a PPL and an Instrument Rating before you can even be trained for the COM rating. If you have objections then please refer to the the FAR Part 61 for clarification.

some countries require night ratings
haaha76 4 years ago

Its not that easy

Nice video you put togeather, but to clarify: There is no "Night rating". A PPL enables you to fly at night in VFR conditions. And most people solo around their 10th lesson. Most people usually go Private-Instrument-Multiengine-Commercial-CFI and/or ATP. I myself plan to be a CFI until I'm out of college.

Actually there IS a night rating in the JAA (Joint Aviation Authority) system. 30 lessons is also typical for a solo as well. JAA is a bit different than the FAA or ICAO system and it is used throughout Europe and many other countries... but as an FAA rated ATP going through this training I can tell you be thankful if you never have to do it!
boschpilot 4 years ago
there is .... not on your FAA license but if you fly in canada let's say they u CANNOT fly at night with just ur ppl you need to get an additional rating :)

Thankz so much!! this video gave me an idea on wat to do to become a pilot!!!
SAMMYCARBAJAL 4 years ago
Since when do you solo on your 30th lesson? Most people solo at 10-20 hours which would be your 6th to 14th lesson.
im4point 4 years ago
Well, everyone goes at their own pace, but 30 LESSONS?! I'd have to say, you must have horrible airmenship to solo after 30 lessons, which may be well OVER 60 hours! Most people get their damn PPL cerfiticate before then!

what program do you use to record the video?

I got my Commercial rating before my multi, but other than that, thats the order I did it it, but I through in CFII. never got the CFI ME. Guess it depends on what you want.
Kartkid024 2 years ago
Just so we're clear, there is no special 'rating' for flying at night.
tannema 4 years ago
are you kidding me? "about your 30th lesson you'll solo", well I guess that when money is not a problem you can take your time, but I solo my 8th class.

i flew in 10 hrs

30th lesson for your first solo! I soloed at 12.5 hours on my 8th lesson.

did your instructor knew about that solo... :P

Spbeyond 4 years ago
Gratz on ur PPL. I did my solo like the 13th lesson. I had about 22 hrs. I am still trying to finish up. Money is a huge factor in flight training.
