Actually in the process of building a dedicated slug gun out of a mossy 500.. I'm not hung up on any one brand have had and do have them all..

Live in GA now used to live in MI,Lived in MI when you couldn't hunt out of a tree stand during rifle or shotgun season..lol.. Never understood the shotgun only areas or states.. The areas I hunt in in GA and TN are fairly populated but can still use a rifle.

I hope I'm not too late, but a little tip to help make your new buttstock last.

Coat the back of the receiver where the buttstock fits into with a release agent like petroleum jelly and apply some epoxy to the part of the stock that fits into the receiver and put the stock back on and clean it up on the outside before it sets.

That will give you 100% contact with the stock and the receiver so not one part of the stock is getting more punishment than the other parts.

I tried slugs in a JC Higgins 12 ga, many years ago on the 100 yd range at Ft Sill and never hit target, target frame or anything near 50 yds. I must try a Bacardi and Coke sometime. My dad had a remington 870, rifled with rifle sights and he D&T'ed the reciever, he did it so it pulls the barrel to the reciever. He could shoot 1.5 or better at 100 yards.

Sometimes you get it a good slug gun, sometimes they won't hit a barn. You got lucky man, If you want to get rid of it give me a call!

got my first deer from my 1187 sportsman 20 gauge. smoothbore using rifled slugs. the range was around 75 yards and i didnt have a clear shot cause i had to shoot through the "fork" of a tree. so it was basically an ass shot but it only went 20 yards. nice 8 point with a huge neck
