I was at Teacher training college in Manchester with Maria Parkinson who wrote this before 1978 . as far as I know she is from eccles not west of scotland but I could be wrong . she told me that she wrote it after a breast cancer scare as she felt the help of Our Lady. Br Damian Lundy led a group she belonged to that sang for pope at Cardiff . Damian gave us some fantastic hymns with book songs in the spirit which he compliled he sadly died too young . Maria was a pretty,lovely unassuming girl.

He was well known for his devotion to our Blessed Lady, and that was why the hymn was written for him. It is one of the most beautiful hymns ever written in my opinion, and its connection to Pope JP2 makes it even more poignant. God rest his soul.
