  • Grammaw probably watched these films and said things like; "What's she saying?"

  • What only one? lol!!!

  • I am disgusted by the appauling mammy characters at 0:32

  • At the end she bends Cary Grant over a pool table and pegs him. Truly legendary cinema.

  • i love her so much <3 i feel like enough people don't know about her. she's gotta be one of the best people to ever work in film. she's amazing.

  • Awesome vid...Talk about a woman ahead of her time..she's my hero!! Thank you for such a wonderful post!! ♥

  • I love how she was dancing with the maids, Hilarious! they all ahd such a cute dance!

  • I'm waching her on the Bio channel right now. She didn't have to take her clothes off, but my God she set the room ablaze.

"When I'm good, I'm very good, but when I'm bad......I'm better!"

    OUCH....come on!

  • She was wonderful. Her quotes are legendary. She is the first sexy icon of Hollywood and a screen legend!

  • Wasn't she under 5 feet tall?

  • @MsJCBurke she was about 5 feet tall but she made up the height difference by wearing real tall shoe and hair dos that big and big hats. all so she could be in the right height range.

  • She was trick in her statedness

  • please make a video of just the clip of her saying "hey, you better come up and see me" I'd post that on people's walls all the time.

  • There's THAT famous MW quote about the L leg being "Christmas" - R being "Nude Year" .... ummmm "See me 'tween hol-daze...."

  • "it's not the men in your life it's the life in your men"...hahaha classic!

  • Anybody ever watch the Golden Girls? The character of Blanche almost seems to be modeled after Mae West.

Haha anyways, she's such a good actress!

  • I love her swagger!

  • REAL WOMAN ALERT! MAE has swagger !! they couldnt handle Mae West shed make kim kardashiam sit down

  • Great clip of a great star.

Bop on over to my YouTube to hear/see Mae West sing the amazing song "Criswell Predicts."

  • It's the Life in Your man!!!

  • Not all women who flaunt sexuality openly on TV these days live that day in their daily lives, even the big name celebrities like Madonna don't do that.

  • Mae West was a woman who apparently not only preached sexual freedom but actually lived it. I wonder what she used for birth control in those days. I don't know how fashionable or taboo this sort of thing was in her days.

  • I read a long time ago somewhere, I don't remember where, that Mae West held the Guinness World Record for number of sex partners in a lifetime, which was about 10,000. I wonder if this is true or not. If she had a different partner every day or night, then this might not be impossible. I wonder what she used for birth control. I also read she go into self-administering enemas later on in life, as a preventative health measure.

  • @formerlyaskeptic1 there are 365 days in one year. it's possible to have 10,000 partners in a life time ....easy. although i wouldn't try it with all the diseases spreading today.

  • "It's not the men in your life that counts, it's the life in your men". Damn straight, Ms. West. A true original.

  • Who told her she could sing? Excellent comedic chops though!

  • Mae West was sexy and hot but when she got her first role she was 40

years old,a little bit bad that she was not old,but milf of mature woman

    she was.

  • She war a personality, an actress ful of talent! The is no women like she anymore!!

  • I dont know.............I kinda sorta think that she was-an angel.

  • 1:17 Mae looks like when Lady Gaga performs Speechless on the piano live

  • Comment removed

  • wikipedia says her grandpa was a black man who passed for white. never knew that.

  • Mary Jane West was born on 17th August 1893. She started out in vaudeville and moved up to Broadway but it was her movie career that made her an international star. The queen of a thousand quips and innuendoes and a smart cookie to boot, here's to the wonderful Mae West....

  • she done them wrong -way ahead of everyone else

  • Wow I love her charisma..So sexy and beautiful..and just..So stunningly seductive when she talks..I'm speechless.

  • Women in those movies seemed like a light came from them.. Like they were literally incandescent.

  • Wow, she's really something !

    Thankyou !

    Doug & Aunt Anna.

  • "Is that a gun in your pocket or are you just glad to see me?"

  • @PharaohHazard Can you give me a link of video with that scene?I know it's part from a movie She done him wrong, but I can't find it :(

  • i don't believe in heroes...but, if i ever had one...it's mae west.

  • I sing about West, Grant, and others in The Celebrity Song.

  • love the style back then

  • She was credited with discovering Cary Grant and as she would've said, I took my time discovering him.LOL

  • Loved this movie!! I was 15 in 1967, home sick from school and watched this on TV and have NEVER forgotten it! Oops.......just told my age LOL

  • I liked that! "ONLY ONE MAN?"

  • it's not the men in your life that counts, it's the life in your men!

  • is that a gun in your pocket or are just happy to see me

  • The first woman entertainment power player. She wrote, directed, acted in and produced her own plays on Broadway. The highest earning person in the US in 1940. More on her career, impact and lovers in Sirens of The Roaring 1920's - Mae West (plus the real story about her most famous line..).

  • @bqfoster

I like Mae, she had a sharpie and quickly tongue...I love her sayings, like "Come up and see me sometimes"

  • @bqfoster She was the wealthiest woman in the U.S. in 1970 (she was 76 years old at that time).

  • West is best!

  • Mae West is and was awesome. She will outlive anyone a thousand fold whose pointless boring opinions will amount to nothing.

  • Lady Gaga influenced by Mae West? They seem the same kind of awkward, but... West makes more sense sexually.

  • thats interesting, I guess there is something of MW in Lady's impersonation, but MW was really clever and ridicularized the whole thing in a subtle way, thats why she is different than other sex symbols like Marilyn Monroe. She's always on top of her own game and the humor is never on her, its on you.

  • What ethnicity is she? Creole?

  • Reply to mrgumby42000 - I disagree with characterizing any of Mae West's comedy as filth. In the 1950's I started watching her films on the local affiliates of the 3 major TV networks. For several decades they were often shown there, then the old Hollywood film libraries started going to cable TV. I've seen almost all her films. She had a wit & flair that is unmatched today, in part because she did it without the F word, MF word, CS word & other low class words for sex & genitalia.
  • @LoneTinaja I agree with you!

  • lol i love her

  • Haha "what, only one?" great!

  • all american baby!

  • Baby Vamp!I love her

  • Mae West & Texas Guinan were great

examples of women who were very hip &

very witty without using obscenities in

their acts, unlike so many comics today.

And now the Internet, including YouTube,

is loaded with people spewing the most

obscene language as easily as they

breathe in & out. If they could see it all

today I think Texas & Mae would say

    "Show some class!"

  • What are you talking about? Mae West is known for obscenity!!! She's quoted saying, "I love censorship. I made a fortune out of it."

Mae West built her career on a foundation of obscenity and innuendo. Granted, what was considered obscene in her day isn't necessarily obscene to us, but so it was nevertheless.

  • And you consider this a bad thing?

  • @amscaraza Many people of that time thought John Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath wa obscene. Did he make a career of obscenity?

  • @LoneTinaja

You've got to be kidding me! Every single one on Mae West's one liners were puns about sex! I'm not saying this is a bad thing, but it's awfully hypocritical of you to dislike newer comedy for bad language when this stuff is often more filthy.

  • Pure brass is actually24ct gold!

  • NOW That's a real woman!

  • she was raw and original...always nice

  • theres ten men at my door send one home im tired hahah love her

the art of seduction is learned best by watching mea west

  • Mae West is awesome! She's so intelligent. She's a real woman.

  • "I see a man in your future."

    "What? Only one."

    Absolutely priceless!

  • @Hotshotter3000 - I totally agree!,,,Love Miss Mae. She always say the first thing that comes to her mind. Even in real life....way ahead of her times!

  • When she says "You got me", its the hottest thing in the world.

  • yes! thats why im watching this vid had to see who she is, LOL

  • oh i love that line from the green mile too bad it wasn't in the movie

  • There is no substitute, no one compares to the original Mae West... when she was good, she was great... but when she was bad, she was better! ; ) So great to see her on YouTube.

  • need more girlies like this...gentlemen, your still lovely though!

  • I see a man in you life...."What, only one???

  • the bitch of the 30ies

  • "i see a man in your life" ......"WHAT only One?"" the fortuneteller also says "I see a change of position" Mae replies..."standin up or layin down" she was incredible.

  • She was funny! I love it because she was such a powerhouse but at the same time, she was the same height I am. Makes the short people feel great

  • mae west la mejor actris de mundo.. estas armado o feliz de verme?????????????????

  • What movie did she say this in.

  • never heard that line. Where did you hear that from? I know most of her lines/quips and didn't hear that one. New to me.

  • He's puttin' you two on. The line is, "is that a cigar in your pocket or are you glad to see me!"

  • idiot.

  • "to err is human but it feels divine"

  • She (Miss Mae) was light years ahead of her time........

  • I agree!

  • @addisjon Mae West was one of the greatest personalities from Hollywood! She is and always will be an icon!!

  • My favorite quote from Mae West is, "I used to be Snow White but I drifted."

  • Mine is "When I was young, I had the choice between singin' in the choir, or doin' this...The choir lost."

  • I climbed the ladder of success, wrong by wrong.

  • I luv this woman so much she's my Idol and im only 28 she has taught me to be a lady and dont be ashamed of being myself

  • She was the best!! That's what they call spunk, lol!

  • Ms West was way ahead of the times....sophisticated, intelligent, and so unique!! Also... she discovered Mr. Cary Grant at Paramount. Long live these special moments :) Thanks :) Jen
