rip all a lot of lunatics on the road said the late dick, my god they should be around today 40 years on what!! bless my heros in comedy that were way back then x
Now,think of how many comics today feel they have to scatter obscenity and swearing throughout their routines in order to acheive the laughs! I'm definitely not a prude, but comedy back then was just as funny,if not funnier in some respects, without all the crap which passes for comedy now.FRANKIE BOYLE,take note!
Thank you so much for uploading this. This brings back childhood memories this guy along with Frankie Howerd, Benny Hill and Dave Allen - now they were all funny and now sadly no longer with us. An awful lot of the humour nowadays is some "comedian" using profanity to get a laugh rather than relying upon intelligent writing and comic timing. I really miss this kind of humour.
ps an RAF PILOT TO THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE PATRIOTIC its the truth he was in the war my god he mentioned there they are too much idiots on the road on bank holidays ha my god i was a bus driver for 35 years that was the reason i gave it up my god if he were around today you are all idiots on the road none of you have any road sense AND YOURE ALL SO AGRESSIVE ant way he was so brill never be him again god rest him x
aah wasnt he brilliant never be the same again hes the only one who makes me laugh since the old pye TV long ago in ireland to todays modern tvs a bloke back home couldnt understand why people went to the pub cause he was easy going he said there was plenty of water in the river if they were thristy, but he always could understand the dick emery show and always commented the scenes god rest him and dick there both together now in the great divide great laugh never be him again god blesM/c PB
I think the British obsession with drag - which I think goes back to the Reformation in the 1660s - is much misunderstood outside the UK, especially in the US. The first thing people think is that an entertainer in drag must be "gay", whereas nothing was further from the truth. 1970s British comedy is full of men in drag - nearly all of them 100% heterosexual.
Is the vicar meant to be Anglo-Indian (as in half Raj-era Brit, half Indian parentage and raised in pre-50s India)? Only he seems to have that sort of stereotyped "chi-chi" accent ascribed to the children of those Raj-days "illicit liaisons"
I consider myself lucky that I grew up with the Global network in Canada - they broadcast a lot of classic British comedy, so Dick was a big part of my childhood (along with Benny Hill, Are You Being Served, On The Buses and other great programs). These clips really bring back some great memories. Thanks!
BRILLIANT!! A true family entertainer, I loved watching this as a child and our parents took us to a live show in August 76 or 77 at Great Yarmouth. My Dad was late back from the Bar at the interval, Dick stopped the show and had the spotlight put on my Dad all the way back to his seat, followed by a few comedic comments. A priceless memory as my Dad died in Dec 1977.
Thanks for the posting. What a trip down memory lane. I used to watch this as a kid and loved it-especially "Mandy" and the father and son skinheads. Not PC but very funny!
i hate to ask this cos he probley is but is dick emery gay and what did he die of and how long is he dead dares a skectch with him and cher on a tv show from 1970s so funny

Ahh they don't do humour like this now. They kind of lost the balance between camp and offensive. The old ones are the best, deffo!
