You can't compare them. SEAL and Green Beret are Special Forces. Rangers are elite infantry. And Marines are just regular joes. So in that list you have it would be:
Green Beret and Seals
Rangers
Marines
Only "fair" way to actually do that would to to take the SF of all the branches. Though each are specialized in their own way. I am in the military and wouldn't want to have to face off with any of the SF.

However, just by saying we are expanding Special Ops, what does that mean? Yes we could train more and more people in these highly specialized skills and tactics, but isn't it true that SOF training already has a very high failure rate. In other words the people that are qualified and want to be in SOF are in SOF. Wouldn't we dilute this force by letting more in?

I agree that SOF is a more and more important part of these insurgent type wars and I'm very impressed with the people in the SOF. However, just by saying we are expanding Special Ops, what does that mean? Yes we could train more and more people in these highly specialized skills and tactics, but isn't it true that SOF training already has a very high failure rate. In other words the people that are qualified and want to be in SOF are in SOF. Wouldn't we dilute this force by letting more in?

OMG You are so RIGHT!! My brother has been in SF since he was 23 yrs old.. Now at 48 he is still very active and much needed due to his extensive training. I agree with you that it does take a special mind and force to be able to be considered and pass such grueling training to become one of America's best. ..also who really knows how to speak at 2 to 3 languages AND pass increadibly difficult training?? Thats why it"s considered non conventional warfare..

for example: one person from a muslim country posted that U.S. soldiers in general are pussies on a video about how a U.S. ranger team was ambushed, suffered 8 deaths, and needed air support to get them out of a fort surrounded by mountains.
