I remember seeing this in concert. It was incredible. They had some type of fx none of had seen in our technically small venue. It stunned everyone for a few seconds, but it was SO well received once everyone processed what it was. Still gives me chills.
1974 was a year of great turmoil in Viet Nam with the fall of Saigon in April 30, 1975. Operation Eagle Pull in Cambodia about 3 weeks earlier to get the US troops and allies out. Scary times.
I just wanted to hear some Tull but it looks as tho some warpigs got involved and to the ignorant one I 'd settle for being an enlightened X addict than to keep wallowing in my ignorance
Whilst y'all make comment from your armchair, have ANY of you ever actually been in combat? Didn't think so. This song is an excellent example of the disparity of war. But, when it comes to war, it's all tough-titties. Let's not play Fortress Europe again, that was fucked up, and we all know it. I should hope we've all grown up enough not to want to do that to each other. Kinda hard not to be down-beat when your capitol is being bombarded with missiles. History doesn't repeat, it rhymes.
Obscure chording, always punctuating downbeat, layers of texture, four bars of cha-cha near the end, and about war.....complexity that has carried me thru my 55 years,
this is just one song, talk about bang for my music buck.
lol,the hockey players are happy to keep their nose out of other peoples business..proud we refused the Iraq charade..still waiting for those weapons of mass destruction..and yea in WWII we kicked ass.... the US has the military power,we are under no illusions up here in the Great White North..it is what it is..doesn't mean we have to LIKE it,lol, cheers from Canada..love Jethro Tull and tyvm for the video,Happy New Year!!..oh btw WHO's in a recession? and who's not....
The oil never got stolen. A much larger game was/is afoot. Moronic disputations aside, oil is indeed an essential commodity as water will be in the days ahead. Contracts are the issue and rightly so.
Should shit come to the forefront you deserve to freeze in your mother basement in ignominy while your stupidity is cut off by an utter lack of energy.
I love Ian's music but he is no visionary when it comes to geopolitics.
drug addicts wanted to end the war before it began by making the middle east a example just like they wanted in vietnam. They wanted to drop a bomb on them like heroshima, but the talibans were framed for something they did not do that is why are pollititions didn't allow it because they wanted to steel there oil. hints why we now have a president who can't even provide a birth certificate saying he was born in the us because he wasn't.

It's not the drug addict that ruin the world you fuckoff, it's the god damn polititions that ruin the world. they are the ones who try to make every thing for them just like the bible thumpers, and they try to cut every ones throats. If not for the bible thumpers and polititions there would have been no war in the middle east. All the wars americas been in has nothing to do with americans, just like veitnam the pollititions put us in it so they could steal the money from all the other countries.
The spirit of this album was Ians' response to the bad review the Passion Play album had gotten after it came out. All the idiots that gave Passion Play a bad review began to eat their words starting with Warchild!
antimatterXXXIII-you couldn't be more wrong. I loved this album back in the 70's and still do. I think it was that people got into so many other bands during this time and JT was too controversial and progressive. You have to be a huge JT lover to like all of their music, good or "bad" and see how it ALL for what it is. Awesome!
ian played the sax on this album...he said he would never play it again lol i really enjoyed his sax playing on warchild though it really makes the song for me
This album carried on the fascinating sound of "Passion Play" but that was it - next was the actual end, "Minstrel in the Gallery" and that was basically it for "old Tull".
Wow, you got a real case. My cousin from NY, of the official Hippie Genration, stayed 2 summers, similar age for me; but that genration of oldsters now trust themslves though they are over 30 (and 40, and 50, and many, 60) and drive BMW's, while we who shook off the establishment to try to emulate their cool have fried our brains on pot 10X stronger than theirs, burned our bridges, and we now work serving them. What a deal, eh? But a few years younger I guess it might have been US in Vietnam
I wouldn't say the pot now is 10 times stronger , that would be simply impossible, however it is almost certainly 10 times more impure - that is what has fried peoples brains. The stuff now?
im pretty sure there is independant studies to prove that the bud now a days contains much much higher levels of thc, and other chemicals. it makes sense since most decent chronic is "engineered" indoors with tons of nutrients and plant-roids added...have you smoked the bomb ass weed lately??? its ridiculous.
u were ten and your uncle smocked pot with u, tell me the truth did he sexually abuse u after, no offence he sounds like a peodaphile to me please come clean and see that siko go to prison. cor i just wished he died in nam knowing this
@JamieRivenberg Neither did Canada. Only twice Canada didn't back us and both of those were utter failures Vietnam and Iraq. We should've listened to our good neighbor and allies to the north.
@zitlight73 Those hockey players should join with their protector to the south. With out the U.S., Canada is nothing. Too much real estate, not enough history.
Allies? the Canadians were helping the N.V. All those socialists stick together.
@rjpancerniCAUSA Bullshit they wernt helping no NV. They sold shit to Saddam Hussein but that was in the 80's when we were selling him weapons too. Canadians fought and died in Korea and Afghanistan with us not to mention that they were fighting the Nazis two years before we were.
@ThePoobird Re-read history. True, no Canadian military were fighting on same side as N.V. ,still N.V. and Canada had warm relations during U.S. phase of Vietnam War.
Also, Canada fought Nazis because Canada was part of U.K.
@rjpancerniCAUSA Well, I know that the Canadians were a neutral party so I guess it depends on how you define 'warm relations,' the Canadians maintained diplomatic contacts with NV and often tried to mediate between us and them but they weren't offering material support or anything. In fact, they were supplying a great a deal of raw materials to the US. Lots of Americans may have gone to Canada to flee the draft but there were around 30,000 Canadians who volunteered for the US Army.
@rjpancerniCAUSA Yeah there is a huge Vietnamese community in Seattle where I live, but they were fleeing from the Communists. I figure the ones in Canada came there for the same reason.
umm i think you better check your history britian and austraily where involed in nam it was a multi national police action it just that school dont want to teach that they just want to blame the U.S.A. also korea and france where invovled the war was begone due to french coloneose being there and the N.V.A. wanting them out!!!!!
Austrailia fought side by side with the Americans. That is funny you state that becouse my uncle who served in Vietnam is visiting me as we speak and I asked him what was the British involvement in the war, he said they weren't involved at all....
The song appears to be anti-war. "Open your windows and I'll walk through your doors. Let me live in your country-let me sleep by your shores." Although written in 1974, Ian's words support the beliefs of those who want our soldiers to come home. It is saying the military tends to be excessive and overstays its welcome.
I was probably too young to appreciate this album when I bought it. I thought "Bungle in the Jungle" was so cool. But this, and Q&C, and Ladies and 3d Hoorah...

But mostly about the massive influx of "banana-boaters" and their refugee kids - "warchild".
