  • Much better effort than what they had for the NSW Rugby League Grand Final that year.

  • Olivia Newton-John sings Advance Australia Fair. beautiful

  • Enjoyed by millions yet without any depth, character or personality whatsoever- god bless Mrs Aussie White Bread!

  • As an American, I have always wondered why the Australian people still hold to the Queen as their Head of State.? Why are you still a Monarchy and not a Republic?

  • @jeff62rey Because alot of Australians feel proud of there British roots. If Australia drops the queen we lose our heritage. That's why all the new immigrants campaign against the queen.

  • @jeff62rey Constitutionally speaking, Australia has no "Head of State". It simply has the Queen of Australia who wields no "Royal Prerogative"- she's powerless to affect Australian laws, but she has an Australian representative who approves Parliament's laws. Australia keeps this system because a) it works better than a republic and b) it validates the fact that Australia has inherited many of the UK's constitutional documents (eg Magna Carta), which are priceless and should never be abolished

  • australians eat kangaroos

  • it doesnt get much more aussie than olivia newton john singing the anthem at the mcg afl grand final with a huge fosters sign hanging in the air lol

  • My best friend is Australian, I love you Dan!! <3

  • Luv U ONJ!

  • Love you ONJ . As I want to remember u. As for sliat1981, you're an ignorant putz

  • @jumpnjza2 Define culture.

  • @jumpnjza2 it means they are surrounded by sea..............btw, that country has more culture in an inch than you do in your entire body

  • @jumpnjza2 are u seriously that illiterate and stupid? Does the Australian Aboriginal culture not count? You are an ignorant and racist dick!

  • @MissAllie1999

    wahhhhh wahhh wahhhh

  • @jumpnjza2

Now this is a national anthem comrades.

    v=U06jlgpMtQs

    Now shut the fuck up....

  • @jumpnjza2 You are the worst person on Earth, You have effended australians and shall perish in Hell, (in other words, Wont live long)

  • @vroeh1

    "effended" types the toothless bogan.

  • @jumpnjza2 It's ironic when someone who's mentally backward (you) tries to be a smart-arse and by accident says something correct. "Australia doesn't have a culture", it has many cultures. It has inherited Britain's (& Ireland's) culture, such that it's culturally very similar and legally (often) the same. It has an indigenous culture, and many immigrant cultures. It has a proud culture of sublime efforts and achievements in things like war, science and sport. That's why we love being Australian

  • Great anthem but it seems not many Australians know the words?

  • @BackFromNowere i think every austalian knows the words. its so easy

  • Olivia Newton John also sang Waltzing Matilda at the '86 Grand Final. Could that be posted by someone please?

  • When they had the Military at the grand final.. Good times.

  • Now that is a very sexy lady!

  • @aussie80ss what you said 2 years ago is the exact same as me almost

  • If this doesn't get your dick hard, I don't know what will

  • Wow, Olivia's voice is SWEET and really makes the Australian nat'l anthem sound incredible!

  • not sure if it's just me but i'v always thought the colours in this grand final were not right it looks very green the skin tones are not correct

  • Carlton verses Hawthorn, Go blues :)

  • What a great anthem, Go Aussie, advance old Aussies bounce back with your off spring.

  • How do you know...I guessed he told you when he sodomized your tiny ass...

  • beautiful voice. stunning.

  • Olivia was born in the UK, but grew up in Australia, but went back to the UK in the 70s as well as holding dual citizenship.

  • @barricader6 and she left uk permanently 4 US. she wasn't in UK long and spent most her life in australia

  • @sliat1981 I know thaat

  • Methinks this lady LOVES this song and country.

  • This was only 2 years after we ditched 'God Save the Queen'.

So i guess the announcer really had to ensure everyone knew it was 'Advance Australia Fair'.

  • shes cute, its as though shes only singing a love song. her voice is so sweet :)

  • I am proud of Olivia. Je naprosto dokonalá!!

  • I hate our anthem but I don't agree with changing it to Waltzing Matilda (as many people wish to do) because it's just not "right". I mean, an anthem has to stand right from the word go; if we wanted a better one, we should have had it from the beginning. For me, this anthem will always be.

  • Nice anthem . We fought years years ago in Gallipoli but We respect you , Australia . Greetings from Turkey

  • god save Australia, God save the Queen

  • @ashben74 fuck the queen of england. we don't serve her country, we don't serve her

  • I thought their anthem " We all Shagged Matilda..."

  • @vivekrbs Fuck you

  • was it still the vfl in 1986?

  • @robbieforza16 It was still the VFL until 1989. The name change to AFL was introduced for the 1990 season.

  • I Love The MCG

  • trolling for racist stuff? dude get laid, get happy, get a life.

  • So you have created an account just to state that Australians are supposedly racist? You are lame :)

  • What fur coat??? It was a jacket from her Koala Blue boutique she had in the 80's - no fur. Plus, she's a well-known animal lover and I've never seen her in fur, and I've been a fan for 40 years!

  • That's disrespectful, mate.

  • I can't believe that guy at the start needed queue cards. He looked dumbfounded like he didn't know that was our anthem too

  • I soooo miss my homeland and our national anthem!!! Love ya Downunder, til the day I die!!

An Aussie upover who misses downunder.

  • @archangel1202 then come back. don't b a sellout

  • @archangel1202

    whee do you live now?

  • I'm going to Study in Australia for a year! I cant wait !

    Hi from Toronto!!

  • funny how the drum roll tricked the crowd they all started singing

  • Greetings from Your Northern Sister Canada ! Olivia is an Aussie . she may have been born in England , but the family moved to Australia when she was 5 Years old .

  • Shes English

  • Beautiful voice. Beautiful anthem. Australia is an amazing country.

  • HI FROM MY HOME LAND OF GERMANY!!

  • Come back Peter Landy!!!!!

    Go Hawks!

  • Olivia has a sweet voice and sings in tune, but it is not powerful enough to do justice to this anthem.

    This is pretty routine.

  • Well as an American i just wanted to thank my best friend (Lady Ice) who resides in Australia for sending me this video clip of this beautiful anthem. Go Australia !!!

  • Hello Australia-from Long Beach, California, USA.

  • is this the MCG? and why r ppl walking around when she is singing a countries national anthem.

  • beautiful anthem! greetings from Latvia!

  • Born in the UK was she? ouch

  • SHE BELONGS TO THE WORLD.

  • I think Advance Australia Fair is the most beautiful national anthem in the world, and Olivia sang it perfectly.

  • she still looks beautiful even with that big space-suit on lol

  • omg she sing with the rythm very well!! OMG I LOVE AUSTRALIA I LOVE ONJ

  • NICE VOICE

  • greetings from australia

  • Greetings from America! :-)

  • Olivia Sings "Advance Australia fair" like an actual Australian, like it should be sung....

  • Indeed!

  • She's not australian... is she?

  • Olivia was born in the UK but migrated to Australia with her parents as a small child and considers herself Australian as she grew up here.

  • Lucky her, wish I was Australian. Such a nice Country and accent.

  • PRECIOSO

  • nice attempt ...but no-one does AAF better than julie anthony.

While Im here --- I am Australian by the seekers is australia's true national song ( but not an anthem).

  • I would have said 'You're The Voice' is our national song but each to there own.

  • WTFF we had a war mate.

Youz are meant to hate us.

    And we you.

  • It's nice to hear this sung properly for once.

  • what do you mean by 'nice attempt'?

I thought Olivia did AAF before Julie Anthony, I mean, if you're referring to Julie's version in the 2000 Sydney Olimpic games..

  • She sang it so beautifully, she has a powerful voice.

  • Yeah it was until about 1984. I am Australian but I would prefer Waltzing Matilda or especially 'I Am Australian' by the Seekers to this.

  • Waltzing Matilda, is a bit to old, and just a bit off the topic of Australia.

  • ohh sorry

k well then if you want to hear what a normal sydneysider Australian accent is like click on my video...(we dont all talk like crocodile dundee)

  • holy shit get out of your hole

we are embracing the cultures because we are pushing the fact that we were discovered by the english away.

You obviously didnt have to go through year 10 australian history

  • They dont have to sing....

bakc then it was a sign of dignity and respect if they stood in silence

  • but Australia is one of the countries in the British commonwealth that was originaly hit the hardest by the English landing here. The country was taken wrongly....it was already the aboriginals country. And so the English descided that we should have our own anthem.........its the least they can do for the poor aboriginals. Anyway Australia is a country of many cultures and so on a day like today (Australia day,26/1) we are encouraged to embrace the many cultures that make up Australia.

  • lol embrace all cultures like Pauline Hanson woop woop. One Australia!!!

  • well thats the good thing about Australians.........we dont get lost in the past.........and that problem has been eliminated....try watching the news.........Pauline Hanson was a bitch, obviously we have moved on, it hapened in the 80s, maybe you should get some more relevant facts.

Oh and about Olivia Newton John....you were the one who asked what she had done for england........shes singing the AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL ANTHEM.......not the english one

  • i wish they still sang it like this its so much better the traditional way they try and change it too much now.

  • Olivia was born in Cambridge,England

  • he said advaince?? hahaha

  • Olivia newton john is a true born australian

  • its their national anthem also like america and philippines,is she an autralian or she just invited only to sing?

  • advance???

  • you would think they would have picked a true australian born in the country?

  • Australia should drop "God save the Squeen!" all together and just sing "Advance, Australia Fair!". GOD Save the Queen is meaningless and dull as dishwater!

  • What is it with athletes during national anthems? At 1:10 they are just standing there chewing gum like they don't give a shit about this. Same thing can be seen any SUper Bowl with American football players, don't understand why.

  • you do realise that its a sign of respect in Australia to be silent during the national anthem. Plus they have more important things on thier mind rather than singing a song

  • wtf since when?

    everyone always sings.

perfect example is at the opening ceremony in 2000. if it was a sign of respect they wouldn't cut to shots of people singing it.

  • At the '86 Grand Final she also sang Waltzing Matilda and I've been looking for that ever since. Could someone post it?

  • They only showed a small part of that song at the end of the broadcast as the credits went up. I may upload it one day.

  • Thanks aussie80s. That's very interesting, because I remember the song in its entirety and felt it was the best rendition I'd heard to that point. . I live in Canada and I wonder whether we had a broadcast that just continued while commercials were run down under? In recent years we haven't received the Waltzing Matilda part at all, just the anthem. Anyway, any portion you could post would be great. Thanks!

  • I thought Waltzing Matilda was the Aussie national anthem.

  • Waltzing Matilda is an unofficial anthem, although as it is about a homeless bloke who steals sheep and then commits suicide to avoid capture, it would be one of the more unusual choices for an official national anthem

  • @aussie80s omg thank u u would not believe all the gay americans who think that is our athem

  • @franklanguage WHAT THE FUCK - WHAT ARE YOU AN ILLEGAL RETARD IMMIGRANT

  • @franklanguage well boo to you

  • @franklanguage no it isn't. Walzting Matilda is a Australian song but not the national anthem.

  • about time she did something for her country

  • lol

  • its australia dipshit

  • Olivia Newton John - Born

    26 September 1948 (1948-09-26) (age 60)

    Cambridge, ENGLAND

Funny, I could have sworn you just called me a dipshit... pass this fella a mirror!

  • I love the National Anthem.

I don't want to change it.

With a proper education, the lyrics are easy to understand, and are fantastic.

I don't want pop songs to replace it.

"Land Down Under"...most people who claim to know it have no idea.

Waltzing Matilda = stealing and suicide

I am Australian is too long.

    No...stick with Advance Australia Fair.

  • My apologies, please ignore my previous post. Seems like there's a problem with my computer (Vista?) and not your video. Sorry!

  • Something wrong here, can't play this. I would love to see this video, please re-post?

  • I think you would find that Olivia does actually use the words in the national anthem to sing it. It just wasn't a general sing-a-long back then.

  • Singing along is only a modern phenomenon, at that stage it was considered proper to stand to attention.

  • Notice just how close the two teams were in lining up for the Anthem?

  • Great!

  • Have never seen this!!! Thanks for posting!!

  • Such an Angel!!

  • Wow that was amazing. She is such a superstar. Thanks for sending me this video.

  • WOW what a surprise I remember it though I never saw it at the time. Thank you very much adding this gem with Australia's favourite daughter Olivia.

  • sawhitley - Since you're into Aussie ladies there are also a couple of Diana Trask and Jackie Love performances before Grand Finals that I have up loaded.
