4 PEOPLE LIVING ON ANOTHER PLANET... IS THERE SOME WAY TO NOT LIKE ERVERYTHING SHE SANG? WHAT A PITY SHE DIED SO YOUNG. GOD WANTED HER TO SING ON HIS EARS ONLY... THAT´S THE ONLY EXPLANATION...
An especially sophisticated version of this song and they were at the height of their powers. This received lots of airplay this Christmas on THe Wave in Los Angeles.
Karen's hair is a lot more full and fluffy during the song from when her and Richard were talking with Perry. Must have been taped at different times.
It's amazing how The Carpenters were able to take old, familiar songs like this one, as well as "Ticket To Ride", and "Please Mr. Postman" and make them truly their own and original. They made classics into even better classics! I think it all had to do with Richard's extraordinary skills as a musician and Karen's sensuous, rich voice. They were (and still are) so under-appreciated and overlooked. It seems America is not really aware of how big a loss it suffered with Karen's passing.
Yeah, what's the story with replacing Bob Messenger's saxophone with Tom Scott (I think) on the release of "Old Fashioned Christmas?" Scott is great but Messenger is classic Carpenters. I hope there was something damaged about the recording etc.
Too bad they don't make Christmas specials like this one anymore....Also, this show was taped in 1974, a year before she was struck by anorexia nervosa....She did not start looking thin until 1975.
@NedNickerson2010 Aside from Karen's marvelous pipes, the arranging and Messengers sax, this song has the Carpenter's outstanding harmonies that could keep me coming back any time of the year.
