bob Vila was not the most knowledgeable, but he was a good host, and knew the right questions to ask. When I was a kid watching This Old House, he would ask the questions that I was thinking, and I was able to gain a pretty good knowledge of home improvement/renovations at a very young age. I for one am very appreciative. I would have hoped that someday he would come back to the show.
Do you have any of the episodes where Bob gets in the way and pisses the contractors off? I loved when that happened, it was like every other episode where he would get in the way and wreck something. LOL
I can't believe I thought Bob Villa was a good guy back in that time. He seemed to be real but later I found he was, well - not so much. At least he was believeable then. - - Later on I figured out that it was the subject matter and the producer that gave him his charm back then.
@queekers - Pretty much so. From what I have found a long time after This Old House he is more about himself rather than the do it yourselfer and the art of remodeling. From what I learned he found a good way to make a living off of selling stuff. He seems to know best methods of doing things but was mostly just about promoting what he was told to promote. I'm sure he knew something about how to remodel but I think he was more about selling stuff to do it yourselfers than really informing them.
I love the WGBH ad with its funky music only to be followed up by a healthy dose of that Jazzish sounding clarinet. I used to watch this shit on the weekend with my pops, good times.
its ok Im glad you putt all of these this old house episodes with bob vila thats when the show even use to be good and the new this old house shows dont play this theme song anymore thanks if you have any from the ealry 80s or 1979 please let me know thanks so much again
Bob Vila left "This Old House" in 1988, his last episodes to air during the early part of 1989. After TOH, he went on to host his own show, "Bob Vila's Home Again." During that time, he also became the spokesman for Sears.

I love this old house. Even from the beginning it was great to see all of the detail of the homes.
