thank you soooo much absolutely beautiful....cant get over like in your 59 paul video...just how much the older instruments shine and sparkle Im 42 years old and I am finally appreciating how the older gibsons fenders martins are the stradavarius of our instrument......sigh........;) thank you again and great playing!
i'm glad to listen to a guitar demo that isn't some guy flat-picking the shit out of a guitar..this guy showed the tone of each guitar accurately and that's all i want to hear
i have a 1955, the year before they ruined j45s, an its getting that wavy acoustic sound like this 1943 here, i'd love to actually be able to compare the three in person... but where can you find them, its damn impossible
Thanks for posting. I'm currently considering a good J-45, a Martin D-18 Authentic, or a Santa Cruz Vintage Artist. Videos like these help since I can't get each of these guitars in one shop to compare. Thanks for posting. Also I love "Nobody Loves You When You're Down and Out".
Why do the trolls gotta be everywhere. This dude is sharing something, so people interested can get a feel for the guitar if they cant access one, and some jerk has got to troll every Fuck**Gtime....Rock on myoldGuitars, thanks for the post
the style of feedback may have been rude but those people have a point.
we all want to listen to a J45 legend , there arn't many of those on youtube.
so you feel all glad you found this video, you click , and then you hear an alternative tuning which can be nice at times but really a drag when you wanna listen to a guitar.
I thought the new Gibson held up well to the comparison, seemed like the newer 45 was deeper, maybe a little better tone overall from the old 45 but the new guitar will probably sound as good in much less than 60 years from now.
Quite nice comparison overall. I hear more low end, a more open midrange, and a more muted treble in the original. The new one seemed a bit thinner and more focused sounding. Very subtle, though.
I guess we'll never know how these guitars really sound. Struming vintage guitars is stupid, flatpick the hell out of it and well behind the sound hole. These hide glue Adirondack top guitars need to be played hard to get that top moving. Otherwise just a total waste of money.
i love this guitar and i love the song. I've listened dozens of times and dream of having seven grand to spend. could you be so kind as to share the progression? thanks.
i have my late father's guitar a gibson j45 1953 model and although sentiment can easily cloud judgement i can honestly say that a new j45 (i play them too) just doesnt hold a candle to a vintage piece . wood ages over time , and lets face it back in the day craftsmanship and wood selection was superior . yes gibson builds beutiful guitars today but my 53 sounds like a cello . ask a pro ask a tech dont fool yourselves .
Not a great comparison since the Legend has an Adirondack top and the original has a mahogany top. I bet the difference would be much smaller between the two if the woods were the same. I must say though they are both great.
Can't say that there is a huge difference, but the '43 imho has a mellower mid range and more open sound compared to a pronounced mid range "growl?" (possibly not a growl, but more to play with for sure) and tighter sound of the '07. Both sound gorgeous. Thanks for making the vid.
nice experiment. my (hardly earth shattering) conclusion is that in 2071 the 2007 will sound just like the 1943 does now. get your grandchildren to post a response!
On the contrary, I love this tune, it is haunting and rich and I wish I could play it. Is it published? I think the playing is soulful and straightforward and achieves its purpose. Thanks.
i like :)

A great Demonstration of how each guitar sounds, and a great guide for potential buyers. Thanks for doing this.

not a whole lot of difference. EQ and positioning of the guitar will affect the sound more than the actual guitars themselves.

no matter what guitar vintage versions seem to have a bigger sound wether its acoustic or electric must be the wood aging..

the older Gibson sounded sooo much better than the new one, although the 07 did seem to hold its own

I have a 1954 J45. Very nice warm tone. Had to re glue all the bracing but didn't effect the tone. It sounds very good in the studio.

I got a 73 j45 for my birthday gift from my mom and dad. This is the best damn guitar i have ever had!

evidently you've never played a J-45.

The '43 has a deep, rich tone which only comes with age. My '73 SJ Deluxe records beautifully, with nice low tones as well.

original 43 definitely sounds better.
cant imagine owning an acoustic guitar without a truss rod though

Come on! You guys can't here the difference? The '43 is more open. The new one will get there in a decade or so. They're both nice...
