  • i've had a few human torches. made them myself.

  • Got THING and THOR for x-mas one year....these dolls ruled.

...never thought Tarzan fit in....even as a kid I was like "wtf"?

  • They gave Conan a hair style like Adrienne Barbeau!

  • Mr Fantastic's awesome invisibility powers. Stan Lee musta cringed everytime that commercial was on.

  • I HAVE THAT SPIDERMAN ;)

  • that great BLACK super hero!

  • "That great black superhero" is the funniest thing ever put on YouTube.

  • @BansheeMilk Yeah, aren't blacks more on the supply side of crime?

  • SOUL BROTHA SUPER HERO

  • is the thing's "thing" censored? lol

  • I LOVE this ad. I dont know what i enjoy more, the casual racism & sexisim, the brilliant accuracy of toy design in Iron Man, The Thing & The Human Torch. Or the lenghths they went to in getting the precise details right about each heroes power like Mr Fantastic's Invisibility or Thor's viking abilities.

The announcers calm understated delivery is also a bonus.

  • @MrElliotpaige Racism? Sexism?

  • "The falcon the great black super hero", thats racist

  • Lol, these action figures look really cheesy like nearly everything else in the 70's. :)

  • conan and thor perm is ultra fucked up lol

  • Let make sure we point out that he's black.... Atleast they didn't say something like "with the power to fly to the front of the welfare line.

  • SOOO when they could'nt make a strecthy mr fantastic they made him invisible woah

  • "That great Black Super-hero" WTF?

  • @redskinStu If it's any consolation he calls Hulk green

  • funny mego went out of buisiness cause they wouldnt take a chance on starwars

  • sooo fucking racist

  • Funniest toymerical ever.

  • Amazes me that they got away with The Falcon line

  • Shazam is not his name. It's Captain Marvel dangit.

  • WTF??? The Thing looked more like the poor man's Thing!

  • lol dude thats funny the black hero falcon lol

  • wow... this is... it is really...it's.... wow

  • I had a bunch of these. These were my absolute favourite toys growing up.

  • Notice he said the great BLACK superhero when it came to the Red Falcon wow bigotry at its finest

  • The announcer has no idea what he's saying or who these comic characters are. *L* He just keeps talking.

    Thor is a Viking?

Conan has a bad 1960s Diana Ross perm?

Mr. Fantastic has the power of invisibility?

Did he really call Wonder Woman a "gal"?

Tarzan's now a member of the Justice League?

Yep, and the Falcon's still black. Glad we got all that straightened out.

  • @felixjazzage Good grief! Who wrote this commercial?

  • I had the Tarzan. I remember my mom told me it costs two dollars.

  • So... if Tarzan is King of the Apes, does he hold power over that great Black Super Hero, The Falcon?

  • Wow, a DC and Marvel universe crossover adventure, with Tarzan and Conan to boot. I'm in!

  • TARZANS A SUPERHERO??? LOLWAT?

  • Well if a guy who can speak with fishes is a superhero I don't see why a guy who can speak to apes can't be one.

  • Human Torch goes the speed of light?

    Mister Fantastic turns invisible?

Nice research 70s ad people, wherever you are!

    awesome ad, what a flashback...

I had some of these as a kid but never saw the commercials.

  • WHY IS WONDER WOMANS FOREHEAD SO BIG?

  • If I remember correctly, they also had Daredevil (in the red costume as well as the yellow and red one). And since when was Catwoman a super hero? She was a villain!

  • @elc1960 Mego never made a Daredevil, in either costume. And the idea of making variants was still three decades in the future.

  • And Wonder woman.

  • I have batman.

  • Aquaman, the underwater crime fighter/ Green Arrow, crime fighter from the forest. Places where all the big time criminals hang out. LOL!

  • Falcon is one of the most underrated superheroes ever. Boy Ironman looks just plain wrong with that face. And the less said about poor Human Torch, the better...

  • tarzan was a super hero

  • Seems like they could have done a better job with the design work even back then. Iron man looks like he's smiling through his mask, Conan is way too skinny, The Thing looks like he's wearing a grey rock shirt that doesn't match his exterior and Thor has bad hair. Would still like to get hold of some though.

  • Would love to be able to get hold of some of these vintage figures. Bet they cost an arm and a leg and you have to be very resourceful to find them now. I remember having Superman, Batman, Hulk and Shazam when I was a kid. Couldn't tell what ever became of them.

  • @lonechief

Most of these guys can be found loose, in pretty good condition and at a reasonable price on eBay. I replaced a bunch the figures I'd had as a kid this way. For whatever reason Iron Man was the hardest to find/most expensive.

  • I love the way Mr. Fantastic and Invisible girl both become invisible @1:22 :)) lol

  • They should have just sold an empty box for the Invisible Girl. And I bet stupid people would have bought it.

  • @brbgal hahahah you´re right dude hahaha.

  • "Shazam, now featured on network television".......LOLZ

  • lol why is the thing's crotch being censored

  • Wow.....had to remind everyone the the Falcon was black......and brave....lol

  • MEGO's design for IRON MAN = FAIL, Look at his face!

  • I had the Invisible Girl but when I got her out of the box and put her on the ground I couldnt find her again.

  • @7DARKHELLS Im very sorry for your loss! That must have been dreadful to a small child? Oh, my that is quite an injustice

  • This guy needs to read a comic

  • BARACK OBAMA THAT GREAT BLACK SUPERZERO

  • I still love that Captain Marvel is holding a phone cord.

  • It was Robin Hood in the forest not Green Arrow. Mr. Fantastic changes shape and hardness or softness of his body, needed invisble girl or invisible woman to turn him invisible, although he could stretch thin and hide behind a pipe or something.

  • Oh lord .... THAT GREAT BLACK SUPER HERO ...... did they really SAY that?!?! Good grief....

  • "That fantastic green giant superheroe the Hulk, who for some reason is an inch shorter than the other heroes'! ....and Conan needs to hit the gym....

  • Man, DC and Marvel would have crap fits now seeing their products/characters advertised together.

  • You can tell Aquaman had the hardest job... you know... fighting all that undersea crime.

  • @giantsean >XD cause you KNOW its rampid down under the see .... fish on fish crime

  • I love that they clump all the girls together...and they STILL come after the villains. No wonder Gloria Steinham and Bella Abzug were so pissed off.

  • spiderman's... strange.... enemy...

  • falcon that great black super hero ha ha ha ha ha priceless

  • Damn this brings back sooooooooo many childhood memories...!!! Thanks for posting this!!!

  • WHAT THE FUCK

    IRONMAN LOL

  • Well one things certain. Mego was on to something when they put Catwoman with the supergals instead of the villains rouge. Could DC got the hint?

  • Hehehe.... I asked me, if the Thing holding the rock or the rock the Thing.... There isnt a big different hu.... Tarzan.????? Hahaha a super hero..?? But this awesome commercial gets 5stars

  • shazam with the power to clean!!!

  • Ha! 0:53

  • Its interesting to see DC and Marvel heroes in this commercial. That would never happen today.

  • So many funny moments...how is a kid supposed to make invisible girl go invisble? But I would like to know exactly what "underwater crime" is Aquaman supposed to be fighting? Unles they are talking about BP!

  • How many thought they bought the invisible girl when it was just an empty package?

  • The Invisible Girl and Mr. Fantsatic BOTH "having the power of invisiblity"? Conan and his "sword of justice"? Wrong.

  • @srb9 Hahaha! I thought the same thing! How'd they screw THAT up?!

  • @jakesdoc I know, right?

  • I had most of these.

  • Tarzan is a superhero?

  • i had all these except for the FF...they sucked...

  • Whatsup with Iron Man? No mask? Hah! I had several of these when I was a kid.

  • look like crap...

  • If I remember right, the villains included: The Joker; The Penguin, Mr. Mxptylk, Dr. Doom, The Green Goblin, Lex Luthor, The Riddler and The Lizard (among others). Mego also had a long forgotten line of horror movie monsters: Frankenstein, Dracula and The Wolf Man, I think. For some reason, Mr. Mxptylk was the same size as all the other figures - he was almost a dwarf, unless I'm mistaken.

  • ALL toys have the power of invisibility - if you don't have them!

  • I love the line about "Invisible Girl and Mr. Fantastic both have the power of invisibility". How ridiculous! The commercial sucks, but the product was actually very cool. These figures have to be the inspiration for "Robot Chicken". They even use mock-ups of these figures in that show. Also - why did they put Green Arrow in with the women heroes? The villains were a fantastic idea. But the Falcon? "That great black super hero"?? Where was the NAACP on that one? They let THAT slide?

  • @elc1960 Referring to a person or character as 'black' wasn't unusual or a pejorative back then. A character marketed as 'black' probably wouldn't have raised the NAACP's ire at all - they probably would have liked it.

  • @WildmanWoodie I know, I was about 13 when these toys came out. I just meant that it seemed strange that they would single out his "blackness" as a selling point instead of him being a super hero. "Come on kiddies, buy the Falcon - he's BLACK, you know!" He was actually Captain America's sidekick in the comics back then. He was pretty cool, but he wasn't the star of their comics back then and like all of Cap's other sidekicks he got killed off as well.

  • this clown annoucer knows nothing about thease characters mwhat a surprise!

  • Mr Fantastic didn't have the ability to turn invisible!

  • OMG who wrote the type for this? My inner nerd is foaming at the mouth.

  • shazam...what is up with the telephone cord! hahahahaahah

  • My Childhood. Great stuff! ShawN

  • lol

  • My older brother had the Conan figure. I remember it came with an axe and a sword (this was way before action figures came with 10,000 accessories). Wow, I always thought Falcon was an understimated hero. Good to know it had his own Mego doll,,,I mean action figure...

  • Im so glad they said Falcan is Black...otherwise we wouldnt know! LOL...Love Mego though!

  • I love that Green Arrow is included in the 'Super-Gal' section.

    Fag!!!

  • great commercial also, since when did mr. fantastic have the power of invisibility?

  • The fantastic four discription needed a little more research. The Human Torch [faster then the speed of light]? Mr. and Mrs. Fantastic [both with the powers of invisibillity]? I loved Mego but, they kind of did their own thing didn't they. And, let us not forget the Falcon's discription [all I can say is WTF!!!!!!! ]. Mego, were a bunch of marketing maniacs [got to love 'em ]. I miss those great toy commercials and Saturday morning fun days.

  • It looked like they just stopped trying on the "new for 1976" figures.

Conan looked like Warren Beatty from Shampoo.

  • Every time I see this, I cringe when Falcon comes on.

  • Flacon that great BLACK super hero .lol

  • this is on a twiztid dvd called the purplr show...and they censor out when he says BLACK

  • @pctgraverobba whaaaat lol

  • @pctgraverobba So what they call him? "That great------super hero"?

  • @Jimmy1tooth As soon as I heard that my eyes bugged out. Theres no way they could even think about saying that line today.

  • The only disappointing figures were the FF. Hard to depict their powers on a Mego budget. And poor Thing gets stuck with a "Thing" body stocking. (Same thing happened to Tarzan). They probably would have been better off giving Thing an orange "Hulk" body. The rest of the line was awesome... especially Falcon, Iron Man and Lizard.

  • I loved these toys back in the day. The one flaw with these is that the parts were held together with a rubber band. One false move, and SNAP - they were useless as action figures. But for some reason, Hulk and Iron Man held up for years.

  • They has knee joint issues as well...and some flesh colored heads turned a weird gray color...as for the rubber band, you might be thinking of ther first series...later they had a very thick elastic holding them together..a have about 150 of them around the house...none are my originals I had as a kid though... Ebay!!

  • these toys were great. There have been many like them over the years but the originals were pretty cool.Mego and Remco were great toy companies.I am glad that Hasbro (who bought Kenner) and mattel are still making superheroes.I have to wonder though' what happened to Toy Biz and even playing Mantis...

  • So racist!!! Thor is not a Viking!

  • 1:25

    Both do?!?!?

  • So . . . aside from the copyright infringement of DC and Marvel, and aside from the fun racism thrown in for Falcon (That great BLACK superhero!!), and aside from the fact that all the heads are the same on every character, just painted differently, and aside from the fact they said Mr. Fantastic has invisibility powers to cover up the fact they can't make him stretch, and aside from the fact that The Human Torch and The Thing wear costumes, I'm sure the toys were great =D

  • Copyright infringement...? They HAD all the rights secured!! The Falcon was one of the first black heores NOT to have black in his name...I mean they didn't call Spiderman "The White Spiderman" did they?? Great toys from a by-gone era!!

  • gotta love the 70's!

  • Great commercial, especially when they advertise that Invisible Girl and Mr. Fantastic both have the power of invisibility (LOL)!

  • if you look on ebay, or at big flea markets, these figures are selling for a lot of money, i have Spiderman, and Bat man, they cost me like $ 20 each, and they have seen better days, lol

  • lol, commercials bak thn were so corny!

  • What was with the Captain Marvel phone cord?

  • @Ganondorfdude11 shizzzam

  • mego's are HIGHLY in demand. i own four carded mego's. they are not cheap, over 1,000 for some.

  • To all of you who are blasting the WGSH line of Mego Toys... your idiots. The innovations that the company did for the toy industry goes much furher than what wag boy gets. Take the time to learn about the Mego Corporation and show a little respect... They earned it.

  • You've got to admit though, that the original versions of Hulk and Thing were seriously lacking. For some reason they were shorter than all the other heroes and Thing's "granite" chest was a white shirt. The poseability and the fact that they licensed both DC and Marvel heroes together so kids could play with figures that were the right scale was cool, but this commercial does have its flaws. Mr Fantastic does not have the power of invisibility.

  • You're right, there was a bunch lacking in the way some characters were designed. Sorry for referring to everybody as idiots. It just seems that we get a little forgetful of how it took some less then perfect "steps" to get the great stuff of tomorrow. As far as the commercials go I find them entertaining, somewhat stupid but entertaining. Plus you figure since MR. F didn't stretch there had to be some "one of those kids" that would have ripped him apart by trying to simulate his power.

  • You've got a point too. These were practically the prototypes of super hero action figures. I had Hulk in about ever size, but this. I used to use the bigger scale Hulk with the "regular" sized super heroes.

  • Did I just see dolls repainted to make kids think that they were actual action figures? Because that's what I saw. Everyone of these toys is smiling (besides the lizard). They got some of the names wrong. The things chest looks like clothes. AND TARZAN IS A NOT A SUPER HERO!

  • "That great black superhero"...... HA!

  • @BombasticNinjaMan That great Black superhero...in case you can't tell! Thats too funny! completely politically incorrect but hilarious just the same.

  • i love it!! i had batman..

  • What no Hulk?

  • It DOES have the Hulk ad 1:03.

  • I guess I missed it. I think I've seen that Hulk on a website before.

  • Wow...no wonder this company went under...

  • The main reason MEGO went under was due to too many licensing deals. They held the gauntlet when it came to popular characters, and they could have done fine on their superhero line. Properties like 'Mork & Mindy', and 'Dallas' among others were their undoing. A side note is that they passed on the license to 'Star Wars', as they thought the movie would be unsuccessful.

  • RE: 'Star Wars' - in the words of Homer Simson: DOH!

  • @skeletal13 Kenner was the only company that license Star Wars and even they waited too late.

  • <3 conan

  • "the falcon, that great black superhero"

    also, <3 tarzan...such a hero

  • wtf lol omg I was drinking a coke at the time and almost choked.......advert executive: "just call him great and black that will make em feel better"....

yeah I dont remember tarzan ever being asked to join a super hero team....batman: "hey tarzan, yeah we need you to shower and stop hangin around dirty chimps before you can join up"

  • that great black super hero? some one will find a way for that to be racist

  • you are right 100%, i could not have said that any better myself

  • "The Falcon, that Stupendous Winged Negro!"

  • "Green Arrow, that crime-fighter from the forest"? There is so much wrong with this commercial, but I guess back then they really didn't care if they got the information on superheroes right or not.

  • Lmfao... They're all from different universes too...

  • nice post
