Superb, otherworldly, both singing and acting! I agree with Gerardsatamian, she is both UTTERLY EXPRESSIVE and UNIQUE, among today's singers, at least.

Who are you to critisize them. This Monday I saw them both in Il trovatore and they were excelent. All those people who are paying big money to go see them couldn't be wrong. If you don't like them, don't watch them. How is your singing?

You know, my personal opinion is that, you can't honestly call anybody "up there" *bad*. They might not be your cup of tea. I don't like Netrebko, for instance, I don't know why; but you don't see me commenting under her clips on how bad she is. She's not bad, if she were, she wouldn't be even singing after several years - she's great! I simply can't get rid of the feeling that some people are just ventilating their complexes here... What do you think?

@frufruJ The mere fact that Netrebko is performing and is popular does not necessarily imply that she is great. However, I will not offend her... As for Radvanovsky, I think she is a new hope for the operatic world, after so many years. SHE is GREAT for me!

@corellithebest I don't like Netrebko either, as I said, but many people who actually do know something about singing (I mean, as opposed to those supposedly affected by the hype, these are musicians themselves and know many singers) DO like her voice. You can't say it's because of her being over-promoted, really. If they like her, you can't take it from them, and that's what makes her great from the artistic POV, IMO.

However, 100% agreed on Radvanovsky. Heard her @ROH, was great :-)

I am aware that there are really well-informed people who like Netrebko, and I don't blame them, I respect their opinion, as long as they do not insult other true artists. But on the other hand, there are people who like someone only because s/he is popular and widely promoted, whereas many superb artists from the past (I call it Golden Age of Opera), have sunken into almost complete obscurity (Leyla Gencer, Bruno Prevedi, Anita Cerquetti, Ilva Ligabue, Caterina Mancini), Magda Olivero) etc. :)

you cannot compare either one of these two to anyone in the "old school". He oversings and screams for effect of Verdi baritone and she is outright awful. fantasy....just listen to the "mo-dee" mo-dee from her. NOT italian.

In matters nothing in these days if someone is hired. They are singing it doesn't make them good. She is flat friend, plain and simple. like her all you want she is flat.

@frufruJ Netrebo has done some very good recordings-- I have to be honest-- but her intonation has not been right lately. And she never listens to her partners. It's somewhat frustrating, given that there are many good singers out there. I really like Radvanovsky.
