fuel consumption... roughly about 9.8345623 years a gallon... give or take a few minutes lol.... have to love the old listers very dependable and cheap to run... kinda sucks that nothing like that will ever be made.. todays engines aint worth a shit.
@mrfirewolf Tell me about it.. I had a small generator that lasted for about 6 months. I only used it moderately for power tools and never stressed it out.. It just gave up. Most stuff is not built to last anymore. I hear these listeroids are good if a few simple things are done like making sure all the casting sand is completely cleared from the internals.
@mrfirewolf VM diesels are quite good and have powered my Rovers for many years (no pesky timing belts to snap on these!) In some applications they were not 100% (Range Rover for example) but this was IMHO due to bad plumbing, undersized radiator, a crappy viscous coupled fan and no separate oil cooler.
Nice - not sure I would want to run my old CS at 300 r/m though - not sure the con rod dipper will do its job turning so slow -400 maybe - what do you recon - could it be an issue?
@trevortrevortsr2 I set this engine up as an experiment for using alternative fuel. The question of rpm came up so I started running it slower. I now have almost 1,000 hours at slow speed. No sign of problems so far.
I do question the cooling of my automotive alternator at this slow of a speed though, but I only set the charge at 30 amps and watch it closely.
@4freespeech I moved out into the country because my last neighbors called the police because I was in the yard late on night praying to my Tesla coil, but the police didn't see anything strange about that .... for me anyhow.
@4freespeech people do not realize how good we do have it. If people continue to not vote, they will find out how bad it can really get, but by then it will be too late. It will be anarchy and there won't be any cops to call.
Dude, that's nuts. The only thing is, you have to make absolutely certain that the fuel is clean and everything is tuned. Not much slack betwee run and stall at 300 rpm. Amazing.
He makes a lot of claims that simply do not hold water ( 100,000 hour engines ).
He has a history of going on youtube other forums and pretending he is someone else and plugging his engines.
Many of his engines break down ( all listeroids do ) but he wants the engine shipped back for warrenty rather than send you replacement parts. Thats more than the cost of the engines.
Since Jan 2008 you have viewed only 135 video on youtube.
HAHA no its not Willem. I don't normally sign in to Youtube, unless I post something. But I do live in Seattle and have been to his house. He is actually running one of his Listers now. It provides heat, hot water and power for his house, it will run continuously throughout the winter. Unless he runs out of WVO or used motor oil. 100,000 Hr engine is possible (do some research). You have to do routine maintenance just like any other engine and don't let it run out of oil.
I imported engines, so I think I am qualified to comment on that.
YOU should do a search of the Lister engine Forum ( google it ) and read a little about WIllie and some of his past problems ( went broke and could not deliver engines, blamed India and the shipping company for rusty/bad engines ). Not to mention the site moderator traced his IP address and caught him posting under multiple user names how great his engines were.
You being an importer explains a lot. I don't know anything your prior tiff. But I do know that he has answered all of my questions and helped me out a lot. He is also the only importer in the US now and he is selling a lot of engines and generator sets. If you ever need any parts in Canada he can probably get you some. I think he is going to place an order in the next few weeks.
@ChuffChuffWoo Thanks for the video. I had a neighbor who asked me to remove the silencer so he could hear it when he goes to bet at night. Now I often see him sitting in a chair next to my engine room drinking a beer LOL.
No modifications at all, only adjusted the speed of the engine. With splash lubrication, it is not a good idea to go below 300 rpm as it might cause the engine not to be lubricated properly.
@rbodell according to the manual I have you run the splash dipper parallel to the rotation direction. I am guessing that proper lubrication could be achieved by turning the dipper perpendicular to the rotation for low speed. below 300 rpm. I have tried the dipper both ways, and have noticed no additional wear or oil leakage there.
@trappy77 Well there is a point there some place where the dipper is not traveling fast enough to throw oil hard enough to lube everything. At 300 RPM the alternator is already starting to starve for cooling. I am not going to take the responsibility to tell people you can run it slower without hurting anything or to make changes to the engine. You have, so if anybody has a problem they can come back to you.
I know I am running (about) 6 hours on a gallon. It's only a rough guess but I keep pretty close watch on the fuel. Some days more or less, It averages about 6 hrs per day to keep up with my demands and I use anout 7 gallons a week.
I am not running 650 rpm like ken probably is. I usually run about 300 rpm. An increase in rpm consumes more fuel. I use waste motor oil which has more power than diesel fuel so it burnes more efficiently.
But it's still more expensive than juice from the grid.....is it not. When you think about your prices on grid juice in Amerika, it's practically a give away.
My initial in vestments was about 3,000 dollars, about what it would have cost to put electricity on my property. Most of my fuel is free and the rest people pay me $1 a gallon to bring it to me and drop it off. basically Its like installing the pole and meter then getting free electricity after that. My biggest payback was watching the occasional visits from the power company as they tried to figure how I was stealing electricity. On top of that. they don't get my money.
Stationary engines are also my hobby. My initial investment has almost paid for itself now with savings on electricity bills and money people pay me to drop off their oil. I figure that in one more year besides free electricity, my initial investment will have paid for itself completely. There is a certain amount of physical labor involved in processing the WMO and maintaining a stationary engine. I also get a lot of visitors who want to see and listen to the engine and ask questions.
Besides filtering you have to remove any water and bring the PH to neutral. No modifications to the engine though. I use a processor like the ones used for making biodiesel.
You need to put up some new videos

Some neighbors, who hate anybody who tries to go "OFF THE GRID",
would burn your house down if they had to listen to that clunk-clunk-
clunk day and night.
But that is a good excuse to move out into the country!

@rbodell Yes one only wonders what those neighbors
will do when there are no longer any "police" to call. You
know, when it gets so bad the cops will hide at home
and tie themselves in the bed.

Willie Andree does not have a particularly good track record for engines.
Infact he has been accused of some very poor buisness practices.
Best to do so very indepth research BEFORE you buy a listeroid from anyone because they do require some attention

I have Petteroids
I have the only stock of parts for them in North America.
Tha much said I never sold any because I was not satisfied with the QC on the samples I imported,
I broke everything up for parts and support other peoples products.
I have issue with several venders....
BTW he is breaking the law if he is importing complete engines. These do not meet current Emissions standards.
Mine were imported under Canadian M242 exemption for specific industriual use.

Mr. Bodell,
Did you have to make modifications to the timing to keep the engine running at 300 rpm.?
Forgive me I'm new to these engines.
Every reduction of RPM by 50% increases engine life ~400%.
Thanks

No modifications to the engine at all. Just like ti came out of the crate.

For real??
Do you have to filter the oil a few times before putting it in the tank?

Yes I use a Dieselcraft centrifuge filter and then bring the PH to neutral and remove any water
rbodell 1 year ago
I have never heard of a Dieselcraft Centrifuge, I will look it up.
Aany chance of showing that in a video?

there are other videos of them on youtube, just search for Dieselcraft

are you sure of your figures ..ken boakes 5 hp lister produces 3 kw of electricity on 1.33 litres of waste veg oil an hour!!
