this takes me back a little, I almost feel I've been there before. The visual Tiny Time made with those cubes during the interview reminded me of something at Children's Museum of Manhattan. And the west side of Manhattan the way I remember it in the mid-90s. And if I ever met him before he died (and I was 4 then), he'd probably be some smelly guy I spoke with and not be able to appreciate his music let alone know about it until much later in my life. Which is pretty sad.
@THEvFLASH Fuck you maybe ur autistic to choose a screen name like that i feel ur autistic pain u shit dont ever rip off tiny tim like that ever or ill find u
@gerardilove What the fuck is your problem? Saying that someone is autistic is not automatically an insult, unless you're bigoted towards people who are not neurotypical. In reality, Mr. Khaury had a pretty severe case of OCD. This does not in any way diminish his talent, it was just part of his life.
For those that miss Tiny Tim, his music lives on in the work of other artists. Janet Klein performs similar tunes in California and has some videos up here. Like TT, she has discovered the wonders of the many excellent songs from the 1910's and 1920's . It is clear to see that this man was far more complex than most people supposed just from seeing his stage performances and TV appearances.
I actually admired Tiny Tim for his uniqueness and individuality. He didn't try to imitate anyone's style or persona...he was just himself. Sure do miss him...may he rest in peace. :)
@brittanybug10 he is talking about how he misses a particular feature on the 8 track player, that being you could listen to the 8 tracks over and over without stopping the tape.
8 track was a type of cassette popular in United states mostly, not really kicking off else where.
RIP Tiny....his music WAS and still IS an inspiration to many. Unique was his genre, but many many people looked up to him for that. It took skill to sing in that fashion and survive the ridicule he surely received.....
So weird to see posts from people born round the time Tiny died. I commend you all for taking note of a very important man in pop music history ! Tiny was a part of my life since I was a child , which was a very long time ago . I love him even more now I think. He was considered so weird when he became popular ,and yes he was weird but he was a music historian who inspired so many other musicians by bringing back some great old tunes. God Bless Tiny.
It's really sad when you realize you love a musician's music after they have passed on. It feels like I'll never know any more about tiny tim that what he has already left behind.
@ColorMeVicious Hi,CMV! I'm "Galaxo". I just uploaded a 20 minute interview with Tiny Tim from when we was playing in Omaha, Nebraska in 1982. He goes into length about his song studies, and a great story about 'The Album That wrecked his Career". Type in the search title, This Is An Interview: Tiny Tim with Wes Bailey"
You'd never think that watching his performances he'd speak so well. I wish he was still alive and performing today, it would've been awesome to see him perform live.
I had tons of eight tracks when I was a teenager (I'm 44 now.) As much as I loved them, they were miserable. If you had them in your car in the winter, they would drag. Also, with the continous loop and the carbon on the back of the tape forever rubbing against the magnetic side of it, it slowly ruins your tapes, and it also coats the tape head with carbon as well. But they were fun, although impractical.
I walked by Tiny Tim in a music store in Des Moines in 1996. I didn't say anything, and I'll kick myself forever that I didn't shake his hand or something. I wasn't a big fan, but I realise how talented and unique he was, and that he was also a very, very nice person. He was wearing a really gaudy, colorful jacket, I was struck by the size of his nose! He said in an interview that one of the things he liked about Des Moines was that DM was one of the few towns left that had paper bags in stores!
8 tracks were superior sound quality than the cassette but smaller, became more widely used. Like the Laser Disc player and Laser discs, the first DVD's.. Those were already HD quality but, smaller is better and then we got DVD's and now HD DVD blue ray when actually Blue ray is old technology from over 10 yrs ago

like some others here, i've only discovered tiny tim a week ago, and i can understand how he was ridiculed becuse people aren't willing to accept differences which is a crying shame, because the unique are often best but never given a chance. Obviously not everyone's cup of tea, Tiny was very sincere and unfairly but understandably ridiculed. He was a true musicologist, he knew thousands of songs by heart. Check out his final album GIRL, recorded with Brave Combo. He was the most amazing and complex person I have ever known, and I miss him because I never knew what he was going to say next; it was always a zinger. Every project I worked on with Tiny lost money due to lack of interest, so to all of you, I am moved by all the kindness.
wow, man! I discovered tiny tim a few weeks ago, I was able to get his God bless tiny tim, his first album and I love it! I lsiten to it almost once a day!
He had remarkable talent, even if he was underrated, it doesnt matter, as long as he still makes people happy with his music! Im sure God must bless him everyday!
Although the interview was not intended for release until the documentary I'm making is complete, it can be found in the Extras section of the truly excellent DVD 8 track documentary So Wrong They're Right. My thanks to Tommy Jones whoever that is for posting it - I'm glad to see it getting so many views, and very happy to read such nice comments from everyone. I worked with Tiny for 15 years on various projects and he endured a huge amount of ridicule his entire life, which he was nice about.
I will post a few comments to clear things up. I filmed this interview in Denton, TX for a documentary I am producing about the 8 track tape. This is the complete interview, there is no more footage on this subject, although I have a few hours of Tiny speaking on various subjects.
Have you seen Tiny Tim on any interviews? He sounds gay and laughs like it. I told my friends this and they were surprised. I'm not trying to diss him or anything. I think he's cool but I'm amazed at how high his voice can get.......
Tiny Tim performed at the 1970 Isle of Wight Pop Festival. When he came on stage, he was yelled at and booed, and had cans of Coke thrown at him. He braved this onslaught and started playing "Rock n Roll" on the ukele, and singing. He had quite a repetoire, and the final result was that he had a standing ovation. He was awesome and I am sitting here crying just thinking about it.
I only found out today that he is dead, so I'm sad.
Yes, he was indeed a bit of an eyesore. However, you fail to address his legacy as one of the best singers to ever grace the ukulele, which I think more than makes up for his unfortunate looks.
I was 3 years old when he died :O So I can say that he was alive in my lifetime.

Is there any way you could post the other material you have with Tiny Tim? I'd love to hear him speaking on the other subjects.
