Couple that to a chassis which is no better than the Mustang's, and the M3 is an overpriced dissapointment.

It takes two tenths of a second to blink an eye, so I would call the lap times identical. The only reason you would buy the M3 is b/c your subjective values tell you it is better. If the M3 were $45K, I would think it is well priced. In reality, I could buy a fully-loaded Mustang GT and buy a super nimble Mazda MX-5 with the leftover money.

Currently, the 5.0 will beat the Lotus Elise, and the GT500 will beat the Exige Cup. The times have been recorded on real tracks in real life. Just about any mustang will beat the Evora.

Reasons I don't want a Ford Mustang of any type: It's a fucking Ford Mustang.
Granted, this comparison is not at all fair, but it still made me love Lotus even more.

I see all of these, "I buy American!" people, but do they know anything about cars anymore? To be perfectly honest(I'm pry going to catch a little heat here), I'm only 18 and I know more about cars than 95% of the people I know. What I looked for in a 1st car was 200bph, rwd and overall handling. Sure, I won't be able to drive it Winter, but I don't care. I've got a MKIII Supra!

You might be more patriotic buying a toyota tacoma made in your home state then a chrysler 300 which is all old mercedes parts. personally, since i was raised poor and money is always tight it comes down to pwer to weight ratio for me, best car i ever bought was 100 bucks and i got a donor car with it. 1979 RX-7 with a carb on a 12A rotory. i could smoke any stock V8 where i lived adn loved it.

This is the stupidest camparison, just another ill attempt at making US cars look worse then they are, you have a 300hp 4 seat 28k family coupe, vs a 190hp 2 seat 60k track car....yeah, thas real fair, might as well compare a GT2 vs a GT 5.0, or a R8 GT vs a Boss 302, i mean really, y do they make thes ill founded attempts in putting these cars down in these type of rediculous bull shit comparisons? sad part is, Some poeple actually take Top Gears word on everything...

@shobin05 top gear did this more than once. They take a top of the line lotus and pair it up with a mustang. This in particular is not a fair fight; the mustang seats four is naturally aspirated and rides on regular wheels while the exige s is supercharged seats two and rides on r compound rubber. The new bos 302 leguna seca already beats the evora s around leguna seca and in a strait line so why don't they test it?

@JellyBird12 It seems pretty fair to me. A turbo-charged 4 cyl against a 4.6 V8, and 240hp compared to 412hp. The Mustang should have at least caught up in the straightaway.

@nintendoloz The Mustang in the video has the old 300 hp V8. The 2011 Mustang has a fully retuned suspension, new brakes, stickier tyres, lower curb weight and the new 412 hp 5.0 liter V8. The one in the video was terrible (as you would expect for a car less than half the price of the Lotus). The new Mustang GT is faster than an Audi R8 around Laguna Seca and matched a BMW M3 around MotorTrend's short handling circuit.

@marshknute Yeah, the "new" mustang has all that. They tested it before the 2011, so they naturally used the one they could get a hold of. The Audi and the Mustang are both very similar in weight and power, so it just comes down to the gearing. The Lotus is still 1,500 lbs lighter, so it would still have a decent chance against either one.

@GODIN101 i never said they were slow. they are over rated. if i want a muscle car id buy a vauxhall VXR Barthurst...american muscle is boring now. all it seems to be is normal car made a bit faster such as the caddy cts-v...a normal cts only its supercharged. anyway its not worth arguing im just saying they are dull, a BMW M5 is more exciting to drive and i know that because i drove one and a few years ago i drove a mustang GT 500.

@ShanesAutos The Boss 302 would kill that VXR and so will the new GT500, plus Ford is dropping Shelby and producing a GT500 replacement in 2013 called the SVT Cobra R with a suspension setup similar to the Boss but it will have a supercharger 5.8l v8 making 625 bhp. Ford also is going to produce a model called the Cobra Jet Which will have a supercharged 5.0 with 530 bhp. The Mustang Rapes its european competitors

Modern muscle cars like the boss are driven by war vets on rainy days when they cant take their CBRs n GSXRs out and are relatively reliable compared to audis and bmws. Shows which ones take courage to drive and which are just fashion accessories with electronic aids to make the drivers feel like men.
