It's that nobody really cares. People just don't have morals. They're just made up obviously. People only care about themselves, and it shows because genocide is still happening, and no one will ever care because they'd rather enjoy life and live in a delusion of grandeur. I see what you are saying, and I agree halfway. But in the end, the comment below makes as much sense as well. Is our world's biggest problem not overpopulation? It is a complicated scenario, but I don't think we are brainwashed into thinking it is beneficial, I think we're brainwashed into thinking it isn't necessary. Our technology is killing the planet, but no government should have the right to decide who lives or dies. It seems to be a lose-lose situation from all sides.

General Dallaire knows first hand the awful cost of inaction regarding atrocities like what has happened in Rwanda and Darfur.  He saw the ugly head of genocide up close and personal, and bless his soul, he couldn't get the UN to get up off it's sorry corrupt ass and send in some firepower in to stop it.
