I'm sooo glad I'm not the only one. Mines started at age 12 and now I'm in my twenties. I haven't been to the doctor yet but I will soon cause I recently had an attack..twice.
I had 5 of scintillating scotomas in a row about two years ago. I think some hard pills triggered it, so I'm really worried when I get sick. That week was the worst week of my young life. But in the end, we really need to accept these and try not to panic. Just take a nap for half an hour or something and everything after that should be fine. At the conclusion I don't recommend using a computer or any stressful thing that day, because it really can lead to a headache or another aura/migraine/.
It is one of the best animations I've seen. I experience almost exactly the same when I have it. The first time it happened to me when I was 13 and that is a long time ago. Usually the aura is followed by an incredible headache.
I've been getting these ophthalmic migraine's all my life. This simulation is pretty close to what I experience...minus the nausea and disorientation. The strangest part is the blankness in the aura; it has a strange quality of nothingness that seems to me a visual representation of numbness. Even the jagged colors around the event horizon seem to buzz like visual tingling. Anything inside the aura disappears leaving your brain to fill in the gaps. Words disappear as I try to read.
I had my first migraine aura a few weeks ago. Been getting migraines for years and I never thought I'd ever see one. Couldn't believe it when I realized what it was.
@sereda008 seriously, the same thing happened to me several years ago at school for about 30 minutes too. Now I finally know what it was, I thought I was going blind or something was wrong with my brain, so I started getting really anxious and my face felt weird. It sucked ass because when it happened we were all reading a story out loud and I couldn't see the words in front of me lol
Also, the 'lens' shape spread out and became like a C/L shape over time. I think it lasted between 30-60 minutes although I was confused and felt faint and nauseous so not sure of time. When I shut both my eyes, it remained but seemed brighter, like a colourful flash of lightning.
I'd love to know how to make my own simulation. My first visual aura was yesterday and this simulation is a bit like it. Although, instead of a grey blurry bit, it was more like a transparent lens was superimposed in the environment. So around the edges of the circle looked like it had a meniscus. Also, the sparkling coloured bits were like straight-edged geometric shapes. I've heard that some people see 'castle battlements' but I thought I saw letters like Z, W, N, V.
I just had one today and found this. I actually found many but this video is most like what I experience. The feeling of the blind spot with waving fringes...thank you for helping me to realize that I am not alone and to be able to show others just what I am talking about. It makes me sound crazy trying to describe it.
@jvillavic Me too, it happened to me at school today. I though I was going blind or that my brain was swelling and I was gonna die. My mom took me out early and I'm going to the doctors. I got nauseous, anxious, and strangely I couldn't stop talking... I'm usually selfconsious but....idk it was weird
I'm having one right now! When I first got this aura I was soooo scared and I thought I'm gonna blind! But now I am happy because I saw a many eople has got the same problem.I hate aura >.<
My migraines are triggered by heat (convenient eh?) in excess of 40C, so on hot summer days, or long term exposure to heat, I get auras. Then, I get dizzy and light headed. Worst thing is when people tell me that, "Oh, take a tylenol, you'll feel better!" No. Tylenol doesn't work. I have PRESCRIPTION meds that work about 75% of the time.
that is about as close as I think anyone could do it on a video. the blur is a hole in my vision not a black spot but an area of my vision actualy goes missing. Also the "shimmer" is a bit more jagged rather than the soft curving rainbow look of this video. As a side not I have discovered that for MYSELF that Coke-a-Cola chugged does seem to do a very good job of stoping the migraine!
first time i got one of these, i totally freaked out :( thaught it would never go away... tried explaning it to people around me, they were giving me the are you insane look? ;) now i'm ok with it, knowing if i get these, bad headache will follow and my stomache will be complaning...
Having one now. on the left side with only grey/blue/white colors. usually happens like this vid but this one started as a c shape on the edge. Im lucky to only get a very slight headache for a couple days after. hadn't had one for almost a year but its happened 4 out of the last 5 days. starting to freak me out.
So, I got my first migraine today. It was quite cool, it felt like I was high. But then I went blind in one eye. Got a bit freaked and looked it up on my phone. It said that if you're sick and have a migraine, it usually means that you're dehydrated. I then asked my teacher if I could get a drink of water and she said yes. I got a drink of water and the blindness went away. But then the headache started.
I think everyones are slightly different judging by all the comments. Mine start off as just a blur at the side of my vision, and gradually closes into the middle of my vision getting bigger and bigger. After about 1 or 2 hours of that, it clears for about 15 minutes and i feel ok. Cue the throbbing headache and nausea and usually ends up with me being taking home. I hate people that are niave about people who have migraines and say 'quit exaggerating, its just a headache.' i wish they could ex
About 98% accurate as far as what it looks like, except the whole process from tiny spot to when it finally exits the periphery is about 30-40 minutes. Just had one today while driving on the NJ Turnpike. FUN!! had to pull over and wait for it to disappear, not to mention I had to turn around and go home.
...Although today I had a slight slur to my speech. Scary.
i have had them since 95. took all the medications and now from taking all the medication i have more problems. i think theres more to this. i didn't know this many people had this wow. you all don't get the stroke like symptoms and my headache i get three are four days later weird . good to know i'm not alone. thanks Dan
This happens to me about 3 times a year. I feel nauseous when it happens, and I can still see the aura when my eyes are closed.I'm trying to figure out how to get rid of it fast
i get migraines like 3 times a week, my neurologist just put me on topamax, and imitrex as needed, but im very worried about my girlfriend, she said she sees these flashes and im looking them up now, she has no pain with them, they started since her dad died in february. she sees glitter raining down, glitter swarming kind of like a swarm of gnats, she sees flashes of light like orbs, instant and then gone, and sometimes she sees orbs floating all around in a circle, could this be that? thanks.
@ma5one I don't want to worry you furthur, but it might be like some sort of psychological trauma from her dad dying. I dn't know the full story, but I've had my fair share of taruma and mental issues. I would think about seeing a psychologist or whatever they're called. heh, you'd think i'd have that down considering i've been seeing them for years now x.x
@ma5one This sounds like what I get. I don't have just one of these in my field of vision, I have many of them, and they look like worms squirming around to me. No blurry spots, just shimmering and flashes of light. I have had them once or twice a year for about 10 years, but in the last few months a few times a week, 3 in the last 3 days. I had an MRI today and heart tests tomorrow. I'll let you know if they can find a cause, Good luck!
I dissagree. Go see a Dr. So you can have med on hand. It will actually abort the headache. Migraines can develope into complicated situation. I know for a fact!!! For some individuals its no big deal. I went through a 7 year season. 3 years were bad and the others were the ramp u and then ramp down. Mine are history thank God. My wife is the unlucky one. Hers turned into transformed migraines / trigeminal nerve disorder. She can't even brush her hair or put on make-up. Look it up, you will see.
I had a migraine just this friday gone, this aura was very VERY similar to mine. As soon as I got it I took a couple paracetomols and hit the hay. Beds the only thing i wanna do when i get it. Just wanna kill myself and i feel sick watching this! ahhhhh
@flamingo365 I just had one. It was the worst thing thats ever happened, the headache is SO painful, should I go to the doctors or the optitians about it? Or should I just not do anything since it has gone now?
@Aiden1504 Your not alone on that one, the pain is unbearable. If you suffer from migrianes at least once a week go and see your doctor but if you get one every once in a blue moon like me then theres no need. Just before my last one I didnt have one for months. And no need to see an optician, its not your eyes its just the symptoms of an oncoming migraine
@Aiden1504 You should be completely fine if its once a year, although you may suffer more pain than those who get it more frequently since yours has alot more time to build up. take care
Dang. I have been having this for years and couldn't explain it except a black cloud that dissipates after 15 minutes or so. The figured TIAs. They are somewhat related in a way?
@AnomisMLG no cure, as far as i'm aware, my optomotrist just told me i have to learn the triggers and avoid them. first time i had one i fucking freaked out at work lol, but now i kinda try to ignore it.. until the headache that follows....
@AnomisMLG There is no cure for migraines or migraine auras, but medicine can be taken to prevent or treat them. If you just feel annoyed by the aura, it's not a big deal and not worth the treatment. It's the pain you have to worry about.
Amitriptyline at bed time for the maintenance. Imitrex nasal 40Mg along with 400Mg of IBU for the onset of the aura. It worked for me. Now I may get one every year and 1/2. I can live with that. Im 46 now. It was a long journey and i learned a lot. My wife isn't so lucky. She has Chronic Migraines with visual auras. She is currently on a 21 day straight of pain on the right trigimanl nerve.
Very good visual. Real close to mine. The shimmering of the lights make a complete path around the blurr on me though. I have no yellow or red mainly a cloak effect with constant rotation. Mine almost always is squarish / rectangular. Last ususlly 20 -40 minutes max. Started when I was a teenager and only happened once and was just a bright spot. When I turned 34 it went full blown like this. Freaked me out!!! They were frequent and persistant. I got on a maintenance program and they got better.
i wanted to add a couple things that could maybe help people with this condition....i seem to have some tiggers, caffeine being a huge one. CHOCOLATE GIVES ME AURAS. yes it sucks but I stopped eating all chocolate as of the last aura migraine. Sometimes drinking gatorade when one starts, eases it a bit. I go to the hospital every attack because they are that severe. The docor gives me....(these are probably spelled wrong)...Toradol, benedryl, a steroid and a type of promethazine. this combo work
my aura is a bit different then this, it's a bit worse and can last hours. Usually accompanied by pain and hands and face and tongue going numb, also issues with speech, and comprehending people. The worse part for me though is the "out of it" feeling, overwelming depression, and the pancing and odd, explanable feeling that i'm dying. Been dealing with this every 1-3 months for 20 years now, and the never EVER get easier. I feel for all of you that have this same horrible condition.
Wow! It has been impossible to put this into words that a non-sufferer can even comprehend. This is as close a visual depiction as I have seen. Brilliant!
My Aura is a little different--It starts in the center and moves slowley to the outer diameter of the eye until I can't see it and as it does this the arc or radius gets bigger to about half of my vision field--the zig-zag arc is shimmering inside-no colors, just glistening-no pain and usually takes from 15 to 20 min to disappear. It started in June 1997 and it comes and goes--1day--1wk-- or 3mo apart and with no pain but I can see in doing some research this malady can cause problems .
Shit i thought i was the only one who had this shit its fucking awfull when i have it i uselly have to lie down for a day whitout seeing light but i don't know if that is helpfull
Wow, thats pretty close. As a child I used to get migraines as often as 1-3 a week and every symptom possibe, I had. Auras, pins and needles on face and hands, sensitivity to light, sounds, smell, nausea and vomiting, headaches so severe I would be squirming in bed. My parents thought I was faking as an excuse not to go to school. Was aweful. As I got older, I began to manage the triggers better, and now I get them 5-10 times a year, if that. I feel very lucky. Coffee seems to help too.
That's about as close as I've ever seen to the actual visual experience. Now if you could just simulate nonesensical and slurred speech followed by sickness, diarrhea and a heavy duty vice tightening around the head...
This is pretty much spot on,blind spots, flashing colors.I also see shapes like squares, triangles and sometimes zigzags,But I never get any pain thank God!
Since I was a kid I have been trying to explain what I see when I have an aura. EVEN to doctors!! I almost cried when I saw this. I know others really do see what I see. Thank you!!!
This is pretty much what I saw today and have seen for maybe 2 years now, I get these quite often and they really ruin my day. I get numbness in my face/hands and often cannot write or speak properly. The worse place I get them is at school as I cannot concentrate on work. Very good representation!
Very good simulation. Some of the simulations I have seen fail to show that the area affected becomes a blind spot....what is in the affected area is full of light, but I cannot see what is behind it.
That is spot on perfect--no pun intended! Mine are very similar to this, especially with the scintillating edges around the blurry distorted center. With mine, if I am looking at someone's face, the person's eyes and nose get distorted so that they look like some sort of Cyclops/Picasso cartoon. One time it happened to me when I was at the DMV, and I seriously thought the guy behind the counter only had one eye in the middle of his forehead.
Very good. Mine were more black and white swirls with blind spots very similar to this. Oddly everyone seems to associate them with headaches but I did not have a headache, just stressed
LUCKY i wish i get this ttto experience it i never had it but my mom sayss she gets them

The worse part for me though is the "out of it" feeling, overwelming depression, and the pancing and odd, explanable feeling that i'm dying. Been dealing with this every 1-3 months for 20 years now, and the never EVER get easier. I feel for all of you that have this same horrible condition.

This is the worst thing ever, I hate when it happens. I had that at one of my partys last month. Really frustrating and there is nothing you can do!!
MrFunk911 6 months ago
@MrFunk911 yeah, except mine last around 40 minutes, not this fast. The first time it happened i thought i was having a stroke and slowly going blind

Finally a visual to show others what happens 2 u during this Aura. After my visual aura disappears that's when a severe migraine sets in.

Wow! It has been impossible to put this into words that a non-sufferer can even comprehend. This is as close a visual depiction as I have seen. Brilliant!

i only had this once.

Amazingly accurate. When I first experienced this as a child I was very scared.

Shit i thought i was the only one who had this shit its fucking awfull when i have it i uselly have to lie down for a day whitout seeing light but i don't know if that is helpfull
wckiller30 7 months ago
Wow, thats pretty close. As a child I used to get migraines as often as 1-3 a week and every symptom possibe, I had. Auras, pins and needles on face and hands, sensitivity to light, sounds, smell, nausea and vomiting, headaches so severe I would be squirming in bed. My parents thought I was faking as an excuse not to go to school. Was aweful. As I got older, I began to manage the triggers better, and now I get them 5-10 times a year, if that. I feel very lucky. Coffee seems to help too.

@dlyras I hate migarine !
luciasko 7 months ago
That's about as close as I've ever seen to the actual visual experience. Now if you could just simulate nonesensical and slurred speech followed by sickness, diarrhea and a heavy duty vice tightening around the head...
skamzoo123 8 months ago
ok, so that is what I have, but no headace
happymark1805 8 months ago
This is almost exactly what I get. But the blind spots I have are all around the edge. It's so crappy.

Ive never had a migraine. Is this really what they "look" like?
flightsimdude111 8 months ago
@flightsimdude111 Yes, i have one right now. they really suck
baker51516 8 months ago
Good visual! I didnt see a blind spot, well I did, it was because the entire affected area was filled w/ colors and zig zag lines, not just the edge.

this is perfect :D

This is pretty much spot on,blind spots, flashing colors.I also see shapes like squares, triangles and sometimes zigzags,But I never get any pain thank God!

Since I was a kid I have been trying to explain what I see when I have an aura. EVEN to doctors!! I almost cried when I saw this. I know others really do see what I see. Thank you!!!
shellyp231 9 months ago
This is pretty much what I saw today and have seen for maybe 2 years now, I get these quite often and they really ruin my day. I get numbness in my face/hands and often cannot write or speak properly. The worse place I get them is at school as I cannot concentrate on work. Very good representation!
MiracleStudios 9 months ago
Sommetimes i have this more than one hour, before the headache begin.
It always ends with throw up.
Migraine sucks.
ikdre 9 months ago
Very good simulation. Some of the simulations I have seen fail to show that the area affected becomes a blind spot....what is in the affected area is full of light, but I cannot see what is behind it.
micfishevyt 9 months ago
more or less like mine.
thirteen3 10 months ago
That is spot on perfect--no pun intended! Mine are very similar to this, especially with the scintillating edges around the blurry distorted center. With mine, if I am looking at someone's face, the person's eyes and nose get distorted so that they look like some sort of Cyclops/Picasso cartoon. One time it happened to me when I was at the DMV, and I seriously thought the guy behind the counter only had one eye in the middle of his forehead.
pamelatify 10 months ago
Very good. Mine were more black and white swirls with blind spots very similar to this. Oddly everyone seems to associate them with headaches but I did not have a headache, just stressed
chikotube 10 months ago
This is the most accurate representation on youtube.
