I remember Zappa guested on a programme on BBC Radio 1 in the UK and he selected his favourite songs. This was one of them. He also played "Killer Queen" by Queen and "Cheap Sunglasses" by ZZ Top, as well as the obligatory Edgar Varese and Conlon Nancarro. Pretty diverse taste. I guess this is a tribute rather than a send-up.

It makes sense to me, "Strawberry Fields" and "I am the Walrus" are pretty singularly unique songs and Zappa liked the singularly unique. Plus I highly doubt with his opinion of the Beatles that he listened to every song in their catalog and was probably just familiar with what was on the radio. Just because you and the whole rock establishment drools over the Beatles doesn't mean Zappa had to. And I agree, this is a tribute.

FZ didn't have to search out the Beatles, they were everywhere.
