Frank was !!OBVIOUSLY!! SO!! !!!!!!BORED!!!!!! in the live shows of his last 10 to 15 years, phoning in stupid CRAP just to make more money for his family so he could get back to his Synclavier and produce the fine music he truly wanted to.
@imulateprophecy Division Bell isen't really pink floyd, that's just a Gilmour's album... Looking for psychedelic stuff? Go for Careful With That Axes Eugene (Live Version feels better)
@lumix1640 you people are stupid. who would claim pink floyd isnt psychedelic and use division bell as an example? thats almost as dumb as saying the beatles have no relation to the hippie movement due to the song i wanna hold your hand.... for future reference, in interwebs speak, saying BRO means you are mocking someone. usually through a very sarcastic medium. if YOU want psychedelic check out meddle and saucerful (or live at pompeii, which IS psych prog at its finest.)
@imulateprophecy I didn't know BRO, maybe because I'm not american...But why are you so aggressive? Calm down, go listen to Division Bell for example :)
I remember Zappa guested on a programme on BBC Radio 1 in the UK and he selected his favourite songs. This was one of them. He also played "Killer Queen" by Queen and "Cheap Sunglasses" by ZZ Top, as well as the obligatory Edgar Varese and Conlon Nancarro. Pretty diverse taste. I guess this is a tribute rather than a send-up.
@heylittlehouse Right, (shocking) Frank said a lot of shit that I don't necessarily buy. 'We're Only In It ...' was a lampoon, but I don't think the Beatles cared what he thought anyhow. Frank was great, but there were a few contemporaries that he damned well should have had an ear for. This one's a tribute though, not a spoof.
@vampyros1 Why can't you buy that? What reason would he have to lie? It makes sense to me, "Strawberry Fields" and "I am the Walrus" are pretty singularly unique songs and Zappa liked the singularly unique. Plus I highly doubt with his opinion of the Beatles that he listened to every song in their catalog and was probably just familiar with what was on the radio. Just because you and the whole rock establishment drools over the Beatles doesn't mean Zappa had to. And I agree, this is a tribute.
@heylittlehouse The honesty of FZ's quote is refutable by the mere fact that we're discussing it on a vid that's a "tribute" to a totally diff. Beatles song not incl. in your quote. FZ didn't have to search out the Beatles, they were everywhere. And yes, 'we all' drool over them because they were a genius-assemblage that was writing the book everyone else was tearing pages from to read. And they sure as hell weren't part of the "rock establishment"; conversely, that existed because of them.
JoeSzilagy - nothing could be farther from the truth Paul loved the album so much he asked Zappa if he could COPY the cover idea in some way shape form, for a Beatles record. nor was he particularly making phone of the record much of which he liked. he was making fun of the beatles FANS.
JoeSzilagy - nothing could be farther from the truth Paul loved the album so much he asked Zappa if he could COPY the cover idea in some way shape form, for a Beatles record.
@JoeSzilagy Actually he was making fun of the Beatles. He did it a lot. Check the cover picture on "We're only in it for the money". Paul was kind of pissed about that.
@Glassandcandy If that's what you want to believe. It's no secret that he didn't think highly of them, and Paul was quite pissed about that cover. I really don't know how you can pretend to take it any other way.
@balzacraider furthermore ....why would you sit on a cornflake and get crumbs in ya jocks? Lennons an idiot ...that yellow matter custard was clearly puss . did i just snide?
@mr5852 are you or any of the folks who geban this string nuts? genius' are never the same! these guys come from different places and experiences thier art must by definition be different, but to claim one is not close to the other is to insult both. @gutternugget streets are organized in a way that all odd numbers are on one side of the street and even numbers are on the opposite side. With that in mind, 668, neighbor to the beast.
@ragbag5 True, but the beast could live across the street. I just got the little email notification for your reply and now I have no idea why I wrote that in the first place.
In newspaper with front page Obama victory, Illinois Lottery's draw was 666 on Page 2, Bible's Mark of the Beast, announcing Antichrist.
Also, people have remarked to me that Obama has numerous, severe head-scars. Bible states "Antichrist suffers mortal head-wound". Calculating the Antichrist's 42 months rule, starting from Obama's 11/4/2008 election, 42 months is May 2011.
@BeastObrahma Firstly, 665 is the real number of the beast - Iron Maiden are not to be trusted - get your facts right. Second, what the hell has Zappa got to do with Obama?
Good that Frank never really held a grudge over the fact that Lennon fucked him over so badly at Philimore.Lennon was a cheeky bastard though so a lot of people let him away with behaviour that was not ok.At least Frank called Him on it.Both great figures in very different ways.
Lennon always complained, "They always cover Paul's songs. They never cover mine." Well, it's the quality of the person doing the covering that counts Johnny.
It's too bad that John and Frank never did more together.
Mr Muzzybrasher,The Beatles never pulled this off live because they quit touring in 1966...until Jan 1969,at the "Get Back" unofficial Apple rooftop concert.
@SMITHFRANK cut from the same cloth.... i have to disagree, zappa wrote all the music for every one of his songs, lennon had 2 others to help not counting ringo =) oh, and their producer aswell.
I saw Frank on this tour. This was an encore and better than what he was selling at the time. Although a genius, he seemed to take a dive in creativity after Joe's Garage.
I hope all these people realize Zappa is the reason for Sgt. Peppers in the first place which then resulted in The Beatles making even more like this song after that. Don't believe me? Look up Frank Zappa's Freak Out The Beatles were greatly inspired after hearing that album.
Frank was !!OBVIOUSLY!! SO!! !!!!!!BORED!!!!!! in the live shows of his last 10 to 15 years, phoning in stupid CRAP just to make more money for his family so he could get back to his Synclavier and produce the fine music he truly wanted to.

Mr Muzzybrasher,The Beatles never pulled this off live because they quit touring in 1966...until Jan 1969,at the "Get Back" unofficial Apple rooftop concert.

Zappa knows great music when he hears it......Zappa and Lennon are cut from the same cloth........

@SMITHFRANK cut from the same cloth.... i have to disagree, zappa wrote all the music for every one of his songs, lennon had 2 others to help not counting ringo =) oh, and their producer aswell.

@SMITHFRANK you should read about the concert the two had together. frank had some not so nice things to say about lennon after it was said and done.

I saw Frank on this tour. This was an encore and better than what he was selling at the time. Although a genius, he seemed to take a dive in creativity after Joe's Garage.

@Blues353 Another Wile E. Coyote Super Genius opinion from another musician no doubt.

I hope all these people realize Zappa is the reason for Sgt. Peppers in the first place which then resulted in The Beatles making even more like this song after that. Don't believe me? Look up Frank Zappa's Freak Out The Beatles were greatly inspired after hearing that album.

Zappa's not singing this, he's just the band leader. And the video cuts off before the song's over. General fail.

If anyone other than the Beatles can sing this song, it's a weirdo like Frank Zappa.
