@TheSillybutthead a big mistake that a lot of people make is just coming in and leaving the clay slowly, maybe that's it? every time you touch the clay start softly, and when you leave it, do it sloooooooow, hoep that helps
Dan what is that tool you're using in this video at 2:12?
I like your bold moves and disregard for overwatering. obviously you are fast enough to sponge out at the end. I have added a few tricks here today thanks.
Very fascinating video. I've been wanting to make some clay bottles, but I'm not very experienced. I'll keep practicing though; thanks for uploading the video!
I've been throwing for some time now and im having some problems getting the clay as tall as i want it. Usually after about 3 pulls i can get it to 8-10 inches but the clay is REALLY weak and i can't pull it up or it'll collapse. What i've noticed is that the bottom is really strong but the top isn't, it doesn't matter what kind of clay i use i can't get it past that, do you know what im doing wrong?
Hey, ive experienced your same problem, if you apply a bit more pressure at the bottom and slowly let the pressure lessen as you pull up the piece it will help
I managed to get the neck done today but my clay was probably too wet or too thin or something as the rounded part under the neck wouldn't support the weight of the upper part and it flattened out quite a bit. Thanks for teaching me this technique.
You make the "narrowing" part look so easy...LOL...Having watched this twice more, I now realize I should have left even more height at the top instead of making it rounded too soon...*sigh*...and I'll have to wait another week before my next pottery class.
I tried this out today and I ruined three balls of clay because I forgot to throw an inward sloping cylinder first, and made the body rounded too soon again ...so I ended up with a nice goldfish bowl which wouldn't rise up and narrow into a neck...LOL...I wish I could have this video right beside my wheel at class.
Hi, I'm a beginning potter. I was so inspired by this video last night that I tried this today but never got past the first stage of making the neck. I didn't realize tht you had to make the cylinder shape long enough and then stroke the upper part inwards to make it narrow. I watching this for the twelfth time LOL to see how you do it so that I can try it again tomorrow. Thanks a lot for teaching stuff like this. I have recommended your videos to all my friends at my pottery class.
What is the tool called that you used to pull the neck up with?

Hi, im going to be doing a pottery class in my next school year and i was wondering what i should make to start off with?
sTRIKER4714 1 year ago
@sTRIKER4714
Something simple, start out with making a flat cylinder, then add curves.
:'D
It goes up/flat from there.

@sTRIKER4714 Most likely a small bowl to start with
