  • @MintySpaghetti Well, at least it paints cigars in a negative light. This is classic. I miss this stuff. This was one of my favorite shorts as a kid. I always wanted to be the seventh son. The lemon drops part made me feel so sorry for the king.

  • I remember this when I was kid around 1974-75! This was one of the first songs, for some reason, gave me a source of inspiration and gave me a feeling of confidence! Those were truly magical times!

    What better way than with a story about a King who's fondest treasure was the help and concern of his youngest son; not a material possession. (((sigh)))

  • @1IslandGurl I used to watch this with my mom and she had a silly dance she would to it. I was about 4 or 5 at the time. I am 40 now and my mom has since passed. I can realte to the whole fondest treasure cuz i'd give everything to have her back! Your post was right on the money!!!!

  • I have read that this is Turk Murphy sing and that he also did the arrangement. It seems that he was a good friend of Bud Luckey. Until today I didn't know Turk was involved with Sesame Street. :)

  • I might be mistaking, but I think it was Bud Lucky who did the animation and singing in this. Bud Lucky now works for Pixar and he was one of the character designers for Woody in Toy Story and he also wrote, directed, and did the voices in Boundin' The short film attached to The Incredibles and he also did the voice of Rick Dicker in The Incredibles.

  • I have loved Sesame Street my whole life, beginning when I was barely able to walk and watched the very first episode. I learned to read at the age of three from Jim Henson. Love it. I still watch it with my six children! Oh I remember wanting to eat those rubies!!!

  • What musical genre does this fall into? I could guess that its some NOLA jazz/mardi gras something or another but id love to know more about it because the song is so freaking catchy. Id love to hear more of this type of thing.

  • My son got a new seasme street dvd for easter this video was on it. i hadn't seen this clip since about 1980 when I was 6. my 4 year old got annoyed with me after a played this clip about 10 times straight. man this brings back memories.

  • First saw this as a very young boy in black and white at a neighbor's house in the Philippines. I am almost 40 now. This video brings back a lot of very fond memories of my childhood, a time when I didn't have a care in the world. :-((

  • I first heard this song about 1975 when i was a very little kid. The song was playing on the TV but there was no picture, it stuck in my head for all these years I was shocked when I did the search and found it. GUYS YOU WOULD NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS MEANS TO ME

  • @hugh397 I do understand. I have sung the last line of this song for the last 30 years. I was born in 1972. The familiar scratchy voice of the singer and the childhood memories this brings back are indescribable. I always found the discount store part funny.

  • It's so cool to see this now, because I had trouble understanding some of the lyrics when I was 3 or 4 years old, such as "from the sheikdom of down there beneath" or when the kid says "Daddy, appears to me the king could use a little help."
