  • 5 minute waste of my life.

  • Thumbs up if you stopped the video to check on your cat.

  • i love the tube idea. i didnt want to wait to get an airlock so i used the tube idea. it is burping like crazy, in fact if i put too much water in the tube it blows the water out like a lil cannon lol. any more attempts recently?

  • @cableguy2006 I bought 3 home depot buckets and made some moonshine a couple of weeks ago. I bought a still column from milehidistilling. Got the packing and column for $200 and it clamps right on a beer keg. I made about 500 ml of high proof whiskey and gave it to some friends. They said it was pretty good compared to some other shine they had tried. Right now I'm making some homemade wine. I'm looking for some bigger barrels with open tops to make more whiskey. Thanks for commenting

  • You need to be carefull when you use things that have more starches than sugars. Nomatter what you ferment there will be some methanol being made. Be sure to dump your first cup to two cups of alcohol distilled at 40% alcohol from a 5 gallon container of mash. This contains mostly the methanol and other bad things produced from the yeast. Don't drink stuff made from wood or grass because it is mostly methanol. Be safe out there.

  • Do you have to put the tube in and whAt do you use to seal the hole with?

  • @MILLYNWILL You just stick the tube through the hole about 1/2 an inch. If you make the hole slightly smaller than the tube then it seals it self.

  • You've got a tiny kitten in the background mewling.

  • anyone know about "jailhouse juice", "trash can to'killa'ya" or "jailhouse jack" i guess you can use prison techniques to make alcohol fairly easy without the yeasts and sugars if your ever in a survival situation requiring alcohol. i believe brew skills could pose well in an economic disaster for various uses. fuels, antiseptics, disinfectants, drinky drinks, etc... research it yall

  • you ever try to use grass clippings or even wood chips

  • @jeff420swinger Not yet. I want to do more experimenting with rice husks.

  • i really wanna but i know people are just gonna wanna drink it

  • fill it right above the sticker with water.

  • Dude i have a setup right here, i took a 1.5 coke bottle dissolved 30 sugar cubes of 6,25 grams, i took a package of bread dough flour - 70 percent wheat there is also rye in it and yeast powder and some grape sugar, just put about 5 full tablespoons in it so the coke bottle legs are under, shake it, seal the tube with cellphane, wedge it in and and divert the tube to a smaller bottle, 0,5L with extra hole in the cap. I got a steady flow of 1 bubble every 5 seconds, keep bottle warm on your pc

  • @WUYTS5

Yep, thats why i wana put all mine into mountain dew bottles for storage..

Just cuz no one makes a pop called White Lightening.. lmao

  • @Lynium interesting fact mountain dew is another word for shine AND mountain dew (the pop) used that as a promotional for a while ''in the throwback version it has the little cartoon they used back then.''

  • @Lynium There is a soda called Mountain Lightning

  • interesting fact: another name for moonshine (not that i am saying this is moonshine or any other alcohol, just basing it on the fact it's not made in a giant distillery) is mountain dew for the fact that they would make it in the mountains where they could hide it in the oldy days

  • How long do I have to let sugar mash stay until it became ethanol?

  • @Ubojica6661 About a week, or until the airlock stops bubbling.

  • @pat1huey I assumed. Thanx!

  • check out "bathroom whisky"

  • fuck rice use wheaties and un sugar corn flakes!

  • Watch out for the ATF

  • When Making mash, is there a certain kind of yeast that is used in the process?

  • @kyguyluke I used bakers yeast. You can buy turbo yeast on ebay. It would work better

  • @pat1huey

pat you should put the mash in the dark while fermenting the yeast works better

  • i hear kittens in the background , did you have a litter in your house at the time

  • @TheBrewHowTo Yep. We got them new homes now.

  • How many yeast for 1l of sugar?

  • @hexamine2012 have the same weight of suger and yeast in the mash

  • Turbo Yeast Works better than bread yeast, and you should prime any type of yeast in warm water to kickstart it first. Use a two stage charcoal filter to get rid of the yeast taste and smell. You should subscribe to member "craigtube" and email the guy for advice.

  • @blkcola Thanks. I made this vid a long time ago. I've learned a lot since then. I'm more interested in the efficiency of the distillation process right now. I just research the homedistiller site or alcohol fuel manual when I have questions.

  • if you want to see how to burn schnapps in an italian coffee can, watch on this page OBSTVERWERTER.DE.VU

  • Im serious when I say you can also spit in it for the enzymes..

  • you have to heat the mash for a week between 50-70 degrees to get the water out and then that will drip ancohol

  • when this is distilled does it have a taste? ive heard that moonshine (distilled alcohol) tastes like dough. i wish to make it but not if it tastes like dough. also can i use any yeast? or does it HAVE to be distilling yeast?

  • @panzuman not nutritional yeast. that is a cooked yeast for fake vegan cheese. other than that its a living organism that converts sugar to alcohol. probably distilling yeast is sold at a greater scale than baking yeast.

  • would cornmeal mix work? thats all i have

  • Have you looked into using some enzyme additives to turn the starch into sugars? After making your mash stir in the enzymes and let them set overnight before adding in your yeast.

What I have done so far is used about 10lbs of sugar (make sure to use sugar cane, beet sugar dose not ferment well) to about 5gal of water, and I throw in a whole 4oz jar of bread-machine yeast. In about 2-3 weeks it is ready to run through the still.

  • @LordNova2 I have been looking into using septic tank treatment (ridx) for enzymes. Probably wouldnt be good for consumable alcohol, tho.

  • i love your tube idea

  • @guitarlord247 Everybody does, lol.

  • I know this about rice from Making Sake. Sake uses a culture of Kome-Koji ( a type of mold ) which converts the rice starch into sugar. Then of course the sugar is converted by the yeast into alcohol.

I would think that there are other ways to use rice. But myself I haven't done any distilling as of yet. I think it might be illegal her in Cali. I make Ales and Whit beers tho. Thanks for the video.

  • @jasonmathias Yeah, I have read about koji. There is another called taka-therm, I believe. I may be experimenting with ridx for some nonconsumable alcohol. It contains several enzymes.

  • do you distill that?

or can one drink the mash without distilling?

  • @skimenneske You may be able to drink it after just filtering it, but it would taste rancid.

  • @pat1huey i MAY be able?

so you think there might be a risk by drinking it before distilling?

im not taking any chances since i´ve heard some have been poisoned

on bad brew. if theres a risk it could cost me my life you know.

  • @skimenneske Just research it. Google the alcohol fuel manual, or homedistillerdotorg. I dont like telling people what they can or cant do. The problem with not distilling it is there are fusels like methanol butanol propanol etc in the mash. Thats why you have to throw out the first part of the distillate, it contains the majority of the fusels. The concentration of fusels probably isnt high enough do more than give you a bad hangover. You can build a still out of a crock pot.

  • @skimenneske Most of the stories of people getting sick or poisoned are from people drinking hooch that was distilled with unsanitary equipment. Back in the day, some people would use old car parts to build their stills (like old radiators). Those chemicals leach out of the metal and into the distillate.

  • @skimenneske If he drinks it before distilling it, it would be wine. The process of distilling will give you a smaller amount of liquid, but it will be pure alcohol.

  • hiss?? hills

  • after you distill the liquer you can take some in a cap and set it on fire if it burns with a blue flam you all good after that Im from the hiss of Arkansas and have seen it done from genertations so this is not my first rodeo lol anyways enjoy

  • @ravepokertour I'm from Arkansas too. Small world...

  • I can't tell you how to do this because of the laws look around youtube on stills to give you some ideas on how to build one place liquad in and distill it cooling the steam and keeping it at a low temp be carefull enjoy the spirits leave me a message let me know how it turns out.

  • I have seen it done with frute water yest and suger this will not happen overnight it takes a few months depending on the yest and suger you use. once your mesh is fermented you can use a balloon over the bottle with a pin hole in it to let the co2 out. place in a warm place and this will happn much faster. once that is done drain and remove mesh panyhose is good for this or pillow case. squeez out remaining liquid from mesh and now your ready to distill it.

  • can you plz tell me how much of the amount of greedients u put in

  • wats mash

  • will cornmeal that says butter milk work,,and how far should you put the hose in the bottle?

  • @32countryboytellem32 Dont know about that type cornmeal. Hose sticks through the lid about a quarter inch.

  • How do you keep the pressure inside the bottle from blowing out the water??

  • @ACE2CATTACLIZZM Its not really building much pressure, so it just bubbles through.

  • i found one way that works great... 10 lbs sugar, with a half a mason jar of corn meal in 1.5 gal boilling water.. after its disolved dump that in a 5 gal bucket.. then fill full with cold water.. once the temp is below 80 cover the top with yeast and place on it a lid equiped with the same airlock as show in this video... let sit for 2-3 weeks, or until it slows in th bobbles in the airlock..if you do it right it will make about a gal. of roughly 85+ proof... cook it till it stops burning blue!

  • did you wash your rice? removing the excess starch will help make it not foam up too much. also when you ferment rice, you should add koji mold. this will turn the starch into sugar, which is what is fermenting.

  • @niertap No I didnt wash the rice, thanks for the tip. I have heard of koji, but where do you get it?

  • yeah i did thanks alot man!!!! thats been my biggist problem, but you helped me out thanks buddy, im starting my first batch in 2 years tomarow morning. im making it with red star yeast and pineapple/orange juice and lots of sugar, in a 2gal gas can w/ airlock hopefully itll work out good for me

  • can you please tell me how you made that airlock??

  • @manure31 look at the video responses, there should be a how to video there.

  • you need to get an air lock it will force the air out faster

  • Seems like yur makin meth, the old still is the best way to make wisky, stop the short cuts, make sum fukn moonshine

  • dude, if you want to build an incredible still and have the proses broke down great i got a web site that has some incredible still designs in detail its at docstoc.

com and search moonshine still and check out the pdf

  • how did u make ur setup

  • Try using just yeast sugar and water let it ferment for a couple of weeks.

    Then distill it.

  • @gravengorilla I've done that. Works great, and burns very clear.

  • You will get a small amount of Methanol in every fermentation process. But it is a small amount and most likely not enough to poison you. But to be safe you should discard the first 50ml of any run.

  • Why make video on your mistakes?

  • so he can learn from them i guess

  • Also, the reason the air goes into the bottle first before CO2 is pushed out may be that your mass is warm, as it cools it condenses, thus takes up less space and creates a vacume, sucking in air.

  • Methanol evaporates at a lower temperature than ethanol so can be fractioned off if the distiller knows what he/she is doing, if not, then it can be extremily dangerous.

As for the 'which is more dangerous, weed or alcohol' debate... In the short term you just have to look at emergency room statistics, over 50% of people admited to A&E in the UK are there for an alcohol related incident.

How many people do you see in A&E for 'weed related incidents'?

  • i would not touch this shit , if the guy does not know what he is doing this shit can kill you . grow marijuana dude its not dangerous .

  • Comment removed

  • moonshine isn't dangerous and it's pretty simple to make. on the other hand growing weed is a felony + smoking it = carcinogens. i think ill stick with makin good ol' country moonshine.

  • dude alcohol is way worse for you in the long run compared to weed

  • All things in recreation and moderation.

  • moonsine is dangerous as hell. if you fuck it up and get a methanol build up while distilling, you can go blind

  • sure, if you're running woodshavings along with your mash.

  • no. just a normal recipe for moonshine. if you distill it wrong, your will almost definitely get methanol in your alcohol.

  • youre an idiot. explain to me exactly how one can "distill it wrong." distilling is an extremely simple process and people have been doing it for thousands of years. methanol comes from wood, not from yeast. learn some basic chemistry before making retarded unfounded assertions.

  • A reputable moonshiner will discard the first few ounces to come through the still. The less reputable ones bottle it. If you dont throw out the first bit, youre getting methanol

  • .. that's also a felony.

  • true, i guess theyre both retarded laws anyway.

  • drug lab !!!!!!!!! shut it down !!!!!! lol

  • oh and u need to ferment it for at least 10 days but 17-20 days will give you the strongest drink after you cook it. however make sure u know your math when removing the heads and tails, they contain methanol and will make u blind if not removed properly

  • doing it are not really public about it

  • u have a better turn out if u stick to distilled water instead of tap, purifiers in tap water have a tendency to kill off yeast after longer bouts of exposer. that could be the reason you are having problems fermenting. you also may be over doing it on the yeast. too much can lead to it being to inactive. 5 gal of water with 5lb of corn and 5lb of sugar only needs .5 gram. so in a 5 gal bucket u only need 1 of those little packets. and u dont see more vids of it cause its illegal, those of us

  • You can buy one way air valves from the pet store (fish tank air line valve)

They are very cheap, like 1 buck or less.

I really like what you have here, and will look into it more.

    thanks

  • i just used a condom electrical taped to my bottle with a little bitty pin hole in the tip it closes its self up when the pressure decreases so CO2 gets out and no O2 gets in if the airlock method it not a possibility

  • can u show me how to make those fermenting bottles or a link to build my own thanks

  • Look at the video responses. There is a video showing how to build the airlock.

  • what i do every year is get 4 gallons fresh apple cider without any preservative. in a old glass 5 gallon water bottle, add a pound of sugar per gallon and the same airlock, about3monthe later i get cider about 10 to 12% alcohol but i find it to be a little sour but drink it all & enjoy it. any ideas?

  • can i use bakers yeast for this?

  • yep.

  • that's a brilliant design for airlocks

  • Thanks!

  • when you get the grinded up corn and boil it, How long do you have to boil it

  • I'll do a video soon showing exactly how I make it.

  • I'm still confused. All I'm hearing is baby kitties meowing in the background. Are they OK?

  • The kittens are fine :)

  • What ratio do you use for the corn meal mash? I have 10 lbs of sugar, 10 lbs of corn meal, and 6 packs of yeast. how much water should I use if I want to use this all in 1 batch?

  • I usually use 2 cups corn meal, 1 cup sugar, and 1-1.5 liters of water. Heat the water to just about boiling, stir in the sugar until completely dissolved. Add the corn meal and stir. I like the resulting product to be a little thicker than whole milk, so you may have to add water to get the right consistency. And I use 2 packs of hodgson mill yeast from the local kroger. So, only use half the sugar you have. Add water until you get the milky consistency. You probably want to add more yeast:)

  • The problems your having with the rice is because unlike barleys etc, rice wont rott itself to turn its own starch to sugar. it needs an outside enzyme.

At a grocery store simply buy KOJI

That will do the trick, very little is enough.

Rice makes SAKE, and its a way more involved process i would avoid untill you have more experiance.

  • Ahh, thanks for the info. I have been looking for an enzyme called taka-therm with little luck. I'll give rice another shot later.

  • Hey, nice use of tubes to make air locks.

I generally cover it over with plastic wrap. and put a pin hole. as long as air flows out, hole is too small to let air in.

  • interesting! Thanks for sharing

  • Thanks for watching. I should have a vid up soon showing a still made from a crock pot.

  • How long does it take, on average, for 10 gallons of mash at a temperature of about 70 to begin fermenting?

  • It should start fermenting within an hour. The amount of mash shouldnt make any difference.

  • With outside yeast the process should start

from 1hr to no more then 12hours

  • Hey, I just started my method a couple days ago. It IS normal for the ingredients to sit at the bottom of the bucket, right? I used corn meal, yeast and sugar. I just wanna make sure I don't have to mix it around again, or something.

  • Yeah, it will settle. You can shake it up if you want, I dont think it matters.

  • why not use pure sugar? If you are not looking for flavor then you don't have to have the corn. Only the sugars are converted into ethanol anyway.

  • This was just a small scale experiment. I'm getting a 300 gallon container for fermenting large batches of probably rice husk. Sugar works better than anything but probably wouldnt be economical for making car fuel.

  • so you mean I can just put sugar and yeast in the mash and it will do the same thing? (i am trying to make ethanol fuel)

  • If your making basic eth fuel for E85 or straight up 100%.

sugar+ water will do the trick.

actually thats how the world makes it

except the USA uses corn+water which is weird.

  • after the yeast and sugar ferment...you have to distill it

  • Everyone seems to have a different reciepe for the mash, what did the old moonshiners use traditionaly?

  • I believe traditional moonshine is made from corn, sugar, and yeast. The amounts may vary for the mash, but after you ferment it and run it through your still, the renants can be fermented again.

  • can you use a balloon with a whole poked in it?

  • Yes, but I have never tried it.

  • hey thank you for the air lock info

  • if you intend to drink anything you make please remember to discard the first part of your distillation as it can contain methanol(strong poison). Also never use any still constucted of aluminum.Alcohol will eat into it and end up in you product..bad stuff. Stainless steel or copper is the way to go. Careful and have fun

  • What do you mean the first part of distillation? I'm not being a smart ass or anything i swear. i'm just now getting interested in this

  • methanol evaporates at a lower temperature than ethanol. The first part you get from distillation is methylated alcohols. To know how much to throw away you take the mL of mash times .0025

  • great bubbler idea, a looped tube :)

  • corn meal

    sugar

    water

    yeast

    malt

thoughs are the basic ingredients for a mash that i found on a website.

  • If mash is made of rice simply boiled or blended, the long starch chains will not break into simple glucose, sucrose, or maltose groups. It is also unlikely that corn meal will be proper for yeast to grow optimally. Use plain sugar, molasses, honey or maybe a combination of these. That will ensure fermantable sugars are present. For a vodka wash use the table sugar and water, for the rum or whiskey use molasses and some honey.message me if you have any questions, i have done a few years research

  • I have used plain sugar, and it worked very well compared to the starches. I have read that to get the starches to transfer into simple sugarss you need to use an enzyme such as taka-therm. I havent found what enzymes are recommended for what starch. And where do you get the enzymes?

  • well, if you are using enzymes to revert the starch into simple sugars why not just start off with simple sugars to begin with and avoid enzymes altogether?

If you intend to have some of the flavor of the complex starches then shoot, make a recipe! I would add more simple sugars than starches and trying to make a fermented batch off of just starches and enzymes seems too risky to me. in other words, dont be shy with the plain white sugar cane

  • I'm not looking for flavor. I want maximum alcohol content. I want to eventually make a larger still out of a hot water heater. These experiments were to get a feel for the fermentation process.

  • they make mini whiskey stills on ebay for 50.00

  • is there any good sites that would give me good tips on mash and stills hope your mash is going well

  • google "alcohol fuel manual" good info there.

  • thanks bro

  • Also Uncle Jesse has some great recipes.. My mash runs are done in 95 gallon... sterilized never used recycling bin with a spiggot... sealed with food grade RTV each time I load it... Your assumptions to start a fermentation are correct.. but the night before.. do a mini batch and if you can leave it out at room temp. That allows the yeast to wake up and start eating...

  • you should try cooking the rice before you use it. i think you are having a problem with the starch in the rice.

  • It only foams if I cook it first.

  • Can you explain in detail the way you made your airlock?

  • Its a piece of vinyl tubing held in a loop with zipties. One end is wedged through a hole in the cap. There is a little water in the bottom of the loop.

  • See the video response.

  • You are actually making corn wine and rice wine o_O, or are you going to distill it?

And wow, isnt the plastic tube too small to let the CO2 out? doesnt the water spits out of it?

I used the same tube like you but i just lead it into a galss off water. Now im using plastic casks and other pre made stuff i don kno the ebnglish words for them ^^

  • I am looking for materials to bild a new still, my last one broke and had some other issues with it.

Plastic tube works fine, but rice tends to foam, not sure why.

  • Ive made one from an old pressure cooker and some copper tubing!, i just soldered (With bunsen burner, because of the aluminium) the Tube in the Top, wich i bent to a spiral before. Around the copper tubing, i made a rubbe tube, through wich i lead water from the crane. It works perfect i can easyly let it run on our stove, at around 80°C.

Maybe ill find some pics of it ill send ya, or i may make new ones ^^

  • Awesome. I'm thinking about getting a turkey frier after thanksgiving (on sale), and modify it.

  • Ah yea, they look quite usefull for this task!

  • i made a still out of a stainless steel fire extinguisher that contained water

work well on stove for the lid i use a cork

withe a hole i cut out for the pipe 1 1/4 tail piece reduced to 3/8 copper about 10ft long coiled in a bucket poke a hole in the bottom side seal put mash in fire up the stove in twenty minutes ya got shine total cost 20 bucks you cand find the corks at michaels

  • ive made some with corn meal but had bad results. Ive had very good results with frozen apple juice 2,2/3gallon of warm water, pound of sugar, and a tablespoon or more of yeast.

  • The corn meal worked for me.....

  • if you run it through 3 or more times you will yield 1/2 gallon of pure alcohol that is hangover free stay between 180 and 204 f degrees 3rd and 4th time run it each time for 30 0r 40 minutes discard whats left in the still dont go any higher than 204 unless you want the other bi products in your alchohol

    methanol 64 celcius

    ethanol 78 c

    proponol 82 c

    h20 100 c

    butanol 116 c

  • how much corn yeaat and sugar do you use

  • 10lbs sugar 1 cup yeast and a bag of cornmeal

    five gallons water

  • soy is better for fuel. corn generates methanol, so it's kinda harder and very expensive to transform it to ethanol.

now, if u wanna brew a nice sake:

leave the rice fermentating for ONE MONTH.

u'll have to figure out the measures for yeast and sugar. after the koji (fermentated rice) is ready just make a destillation process...and pasteurization...

anyway...nice job dude!...sorry for my english

  • Weird thing about the rice was all the damn foam. I still dont know what was causing that.

  • I love the kitten in the backround... Just can't wait for its fix...

  • He is actually more of a sugar freak. He loves honey buns....

  • A better air lock can be made useing a balloon with a small pin hole in it. Just poke a hole in the tip with a pin then place the balloon over the mouth of the bottel. The baloon will inflate some and will stand up on the bottel. When the balloon relaxes after 10 or 20 days the mash is ready for the still.

  • I had heard of doing something similar, but I saw something like this for sale on ebay, so I just rigged this up. Workin on a better still right now....any suggestions? PM if you do. Thanks

  • for the condenser i was thinkin take a 5gl bucket drill a hole in the bottom of it. coyle up the tubing a couple times and run it out the bottom and put silicone around it

  • I was planning on car fuel.

  • how do you know when its safe to drink?

  • Depends mostly on what you distill it with.

  • Hey Pat. I started growing grapes. I also have an old 8gal aluminum milk bottle and 1/4 inch soft copper pipe for a cooker. I need to know how to make mash and a tip or two on stilling my grape juice. asap! can you help? I will film my stuff and get it to you.
