  • Anybody now what this mine was used for

  • yeah. well only an idiot would explore an abandoned mine. they are death traps.

  • @evenios kinda a cool video though. but dangerous. this is where you need an army of robots for.

  • *Go to video*

    *Check comments first*

  • either you two have very little brains or very enormous balls, but nevertheless awesome video!

  • This deserves much more views. You guys are awesome and courageous!

  • COOOOOOOOOOOL!! i love things like that! it could be so fun and cool to explore a mine!! :D love it!

  • Well at least you were smart and wore helmets

  • Looks like you found a good sized mine, me and my bro do alot of exploring in MT. Did you go down/up any of the shafts?

  • cool but be carefull monsters may spawn, like zombies creepers cave spider and enderman ^^

  • very interresting. but spooky

  • Exploring abandoned mineshafts are dangerous...

You may run into some creepers...

  • @smario3500 Your Comment is a WIN. XD

  • @smario3500 EPIC JOKE. I ALMOST DIED LAUGHING

  • how do u find stuff like ths

  • scientific experiment! haha

  • Where is an open mine in the sandia mountians nm

  • Is this in az?

  • nice place, i love splunkin! ieven better when you find old blasting cap/dynamite boxes! the abandoned mines near socorro new mexico were so good to me! shovels, picks, wheel barrels, boxes, ORE BUCKET and a flat car to haul the bucket on! if no one collects this "junk", it is lost forever. it wasnt easy though, and very very very dangerous!!!!

  • nice man

  • The coolest thing I ever found in an abandoned mine in Arizona:

A cup used to melt gold in, with gold still on the edges. I also found a shovel and bag of gunpowder, also some sticks of dynamite. but the cup was sweet.

  • This is really interesting. I'd love to go do this someday.

  • What if you were really deep in the mine and suddenly your flashlight, headlamp, or whatever went out? 1 word: Screwed.

  • You guys are funny... all nonchalant.

  • pretty brave. if that's what you guys feel is appropriate. jeez. wouldn't catch me "Dead" in there...... uh huh. not a fuckin' chance. extremely, and i mean, "extremely' dangerous business you two undertook, for the thrill. number of things that could have gone wrong. oh well...... great vid. I'll watch your exploits from 'right here' thank you...........Lol! be careful.

  • Did you find any skeletons or old mining tools.

  • good job guys iam a semi pro mine explorer i explored over 120 mines in cripple creek victor leadville etc, great job guys

  • is it safe to go to the lower lvls i really want to !!!!

  • @jlund72 NO. If you get stuck down there or something collapses on you, you're in deep (pun intended) trouble even if you have a buddy topside. Not to mention in some mines there are toxic gas, lack of oxygen, or the lower levels are blocked or flooded. If you want to go that deep, you'll need full gear. Rappelling gear with a rope and a sturdy anchor, helmets, goggles, protective clothing, O2/gas sensors, radios, and a SCBA. And to be in great physical shape.

  • @FortitudeOfHeaven oh ok well i wont then its pretty scary down there i bet

  • @FortitudeOfHeaven lighten up

  • @jlund72 Plus some shafts can go down hundreds of feet.

  • @locustsofsteel because they are very dangerous, and cave in very easy, plus, if there is old dynamite, how do you move it safely, old dynamite is VERY unstable, and a small vibration can set it off

  • Does anyone know how to purchase an abandoned mine?

With some work it would make for one kick ass home!

All i ever see and hear about is the government demolishing and gating these things, instead of selling them to the public...

  • did you guys see eny ghosts!?

  • @supadupasqwid Or bodies. Some mines were abandoned because of excess deaths and the remains may not always been retrieved especially if it's in the lower levels, or some serial killer used it a body dump site.

  • 0:01 bad idea bro haha

  • did you get lost in there?

  • i was in one like this 2 weeks ago

  • That's just asking to have that mine as your grave cuz allot of it is filling in to it's self.

  • 6:51 Bad idea bro

  • Why the HELL did you go in there

  • Dynamite is just nitroglycerin soaked into clay. When the sticks aren't turned, the nitroglycerin starts coming out of the clay. It drips down to the bottom of the box and pools; most of the old boxes are lined with waxed paper. That's that "Hercules" box that you didn't touch near the end. That's also called "crystallized dynamite". Anyway, impure nitro is one of the most unstable things there is. It'll go off if you give it a harsh look. Seriously -- any vibration, boom.

  • how is there air down there, isnt it hard to breath?

  • Sick we where just at calico looking around I wanna go in one so bad! That one looked big. Good vid

  • That mine is in nice shape still! Weird not seeing water or (pack) rats in there though. All the mines around here are wet and are home to rats!

  • Really stupid idea, going in there.

  • @madisonhack Finally someone watching this video has a fucking brain.

  • Åwesøme

  • Hey where was this mine. Me and my buddys have explored a few in the mojave desert

  • Did you find any golds silvers

  • Did you guys take any old stuff that was just laying around? I think that would be pretty interesting. Cool video!

  • I think it's cool how much old stuff is still in there. It might've been valuable to someone or good as a souvenir if you played salvagers.

    Love the video.

  • Sooo cool. please be careful though. That old dynamite was made with nytroglycerine if im correct. Thats the reason its so unstable. Esp if it sweats. Great video and thanks for sharing !

  • jim beam*

  • everyone that thinks the guys in this movie are stupid for going in there are assholes and can piss up a rope! this is awsome and you have no soul if you think otherwise! the is no such thing as an unstable mine that isnt droping shit on you at the entrance

  • @samram13 i agree. just applaud them for being brave and providing us with a great video to watch about it.

  • How many miles is it.

  • Where is this (state? name of the mine?) ??

  • That was cool! Thanks for sharing!

  • Did you take any souvenirs?

  • Coal Mines in West Virginia are way different. Insead of a single shaft it is a wide shaft and it is grided. Like huge collums and its like that for a few miles.

  • thats so cool

  • I would love to explore a cave

  • Don't go into abandoned mines again you'll end up killing yourself if it decides to collapse.

  • the most dangerous thing about old mines by far out of all is deadly oderless gas also looks like u found gun powder

  • the most dangerous thing about old mines by far out of all is deadly oderless gas

  • Somebody ripped one at 9:30 LOL

  • Awesome! I love abandoned mines. Great video

  • Always bring a can of paint or something to mark which passages you have taken save a lot of time figuring out which way you have went.

  • Wheres this mine at???

  • @GraphicDejavuFx

Mojave Underground Inc. would go in and get them.

  • I'd love to send an ROV with a video camera into a mine like that, lot's of fun without the risk, you could even send it into unstable mines with deadly gas! I live in Massachusetts though, other than Ruggles Mine in NH which you can walk in I don't think they're any abandoned tunnel mines within reasonable driving distance.

  • This is an amazing video

Without your courage, this video wouldn't been on youtube.

    You're awesome :D

  • you should have tied a rope to the camera and lowered it down that shaft at 5:27-5:52

  • Nice looking mine! Thanks for uploading.

  • I would love to build my home in a mine like that.

It would stretch a few hundred feet in, and then have a back door to the unfurnished, and extremely dangerous, "dungeon level".

  • @LocustsOfSteel i was having similar thoughts haha.

  • Next time bring a good laser so you can see the bottom of the shaft.

  • Should've climbed up some of those ore chutes!

  • thanks for sharing this. awesome!

  • Great video guys!. I would love to have the opp. to do this. Big question which allways occurs to me though; What would you do if you came across a corpse? Suicide, someone who got lost, a murder victim etc. Report it anon? Hope that any traces leading to yourselves wouldn't be picked up on as you would inevitably become a suspect and be on police records etc. It's a quandry isn't it? Keep up the good work. Be safe.

  • wow guys great clip, you should make a blair witch version :P

  • did you find dynamite?! did you get any photos?

  • @nzoomed There were a few sticks of dynamite lying around but we stayed away from it. The day before we found a full box in another mine. From what I understand the old dynamite is pretty unstable.

  • @ciagon

Wow! That would be scary to find that in a mine, im suprised they leave the stuff in these places when abandoned!

Ive explored alot of mines here in New Zealand, and a friend of mine found some gelignite once, he said it was falling apart and was very soft.

With dynamite, it can sweat with age, and you can see the nitroglycerin seep out of the sticks, if they look solid and dry, then your probably safe, but its very dangerous with age and more sensitive to shock if dropped.

  • @ciagon yes when dynamite lays around for a long period of time is will sweat and when gunpowder sweats the sweat is nitroglycerin which can explode if dropped, shook, or squeezed to hard so its very smart that you stayed away from it

  • @ciagon Dynamite is basically nitro glycerin mixed with sawdust to stabilize it, when it gets old it tends to sweat it out underneath it so the sticks wind up sitting in pools of pure nitro. They are EXTREMELY unstable and dangerous, even loud noises can set them off!

That being said awesome video! It wasn't worth risking your life for though.

  • @ciagon you could of sold that newspaper for a good amount of money!

  • @ciagon Awesome. If the sticks that you sore are around one inch, it is probably ( N.G. nitro-glycerine). Due to the fact that N.G. works best at one inch. I know in these westie movies, the (nitro-glycerine) is real dangerous stuff, Eg when it starts sweating excreta excreta, bla bla bla. But with a chemical formula like ,C3H5N3O9, melting point13.5 °C, boiling point, decomposes at 50-60 °C, molecular mass227.09 g/mol, density1.5918 g/mL, it isn’t to bad.

  • @ciagon What ever you do dont touch the dynamite sticks or the dynamite case. After years not being used, liquid will pour out of its case and will become very unstable. Many people have been killed because they wanted to pick up the box and it blew them up.

  • @ciagon Deffinantly stay AWAY from old dynamite, The chemicals in it rise to the surface after a long time, and the slightest bump could set it off.

  • @nzoomed Dynamite can sometimes be unstable, however, it would be fun to have an old stick of dynamite from the past (Not sure its entirely legal, though :) )

  • the one thing I've learned about dynamite is that the older it is, the more sensitive and ornery it becomes. Just like old people !! Seriously though, for those of you who mentioned taking some home, the only advice I could give is DONT... Don't move it, pick it up, or throw rocks at it.. With cases of dynamite that old strewn about the mine, I wouldn't even friggin sneeze...

  • Guys, as an urban explorer. Every thing is abandoned for a reason.........

  • I would take a radon gas detector also...

  • awesome video

  • Nice video!

  • Mines are only dangerious if your that ADD kid that runs in eyes shut

Mines can be fun , a lot of history and things to discover, and always play it smart, The mine will not cave in, seriously, unless you blow up some dynamite, or take a pickaxe to the supports, its fine.

    just handle it maturely

  • Me and my uncle explored a mine in atlin, bc and did it with with a very experienced outdoors-man who had been there and checked if it was safe a couple days earlier, we didnt go into the shafts at all but we saw and went inside the smelting plant and where they used to use the cyanide to strip the gold from the ore. it was all really interesting to me, as your video is.

  • abandoned mines are fun!

  • call me a moron but id do that in heartbeat =D

  • You know how much collectors would take some of this stuff for?

It's like as much as gold, old bottles of antifreeze like that, foldgers old bottles,

    pretty cool stuff.

  • I don't think I would have gone over those planks. I have been in many caves that have freaked me out, but mines are smelly.

  • did u find any carts? that would be sooooooooooooooo fun lol

  • cool

  • what if you found a dead person

  • Was I the only one that laughed out loud when they argued about where the hell they were in the mine?

  • way cool dude, i really wana check somthing like this out

  • idiots

  • thats awesome

  • Ok, Where are your emergency satellite phone, extra torch and batteries??

A fool only foes into a 59 year old mine that was probably decommissioned due to either excessive mine deaths or seriously unstable rock.

If you probably climbed down that other mine shaft deep inside, you'd find an amazing network of tunnels and probably more shafts that go 500 ft deeper at a time.

  • @MrLittlegate No satellite phone, but we had a third person outside the mine and we had plenty of spare batteries with us and an O2 sensor. Should have brough hard hats. You are right about the lower levels - I bet there are tons of cool things down there.

  • @ciagon Hardhats are always good, but a person outside and an O2 sensor are good safety precautions. Good job on the video!

  • @ciagon or the ore dried up.......

  • @MrLittlegate There is always the risk of danger when doing these kind of adventures, but if it were me, I'd walk around all day in there. Being in there is no less insignificant than if a kitty cat was running around in there for 3 hours, and comes back out. The mine "doesn't know" you're there. If it's sitting as-is today, there is probably a 99.999% chance it's going to be the same the next day. If a cave-in is going to happen, it would be like chances of winning a small lottery.

  • @rightsideofhistory Agreed and I personally couldn't hold the temptation of not going in there and exploring - finding anything left by miners and such. And a cave-in is, as you said, pretty unlikely and something that tends to regularly happen in movies.

  • @finddestiny People forget the scale of the mine. We're humans, so we think of everything in terms of our size. But a mine shaft is small - like a garden hose sized void going through something solid the size of a shopping mall. To think the walls are just dying to push-in and reclaim the space, is well...wrong. For the decade(s) the mine was open, with all the blasting, banging, 1000 people, the risk of somebody dying was 10000X more likely than just 2 guys walking around silent pathways.

  • @MrLittlegate and did got out alive ;D

  • what desert what state? I want to go see it send me a PM

  • Very cool stuff. I cringed when you stepped onto that wood platform by the work table. That...I would not have done. You need to be more careful than that in these old mines.

  • don't go in

  • Interesting

  • well I guess a desert mine is safer than a non desert mine? the supports probably held up better and you don't have to worry about gas build up as much. That was still really creepy, I would of been too afraid to go in there!

  • you guys are awesome , i am suprised that you didn´t die , You guys are so lucky .

  • wow the work that went into those mines is crazy i got a new respect for the people that used to work in mines back in those days. you had to have balls to work in there.

  • no this was the best yeah its dangerous but its the adventuorous mind and i love it i wish i knew these guys so they could take me with them

and if u guy make fun of my spelling yeah go ahead i know i dont know how to spell perfect so wtf ever lol but i love theses guy cuz im major explorer like them

  • Good video guys. Others are right, you ought to be wearing hard hats at LEAST. Having some rope wouldn't hurt either, just in case.

  • awsome lets get some rope and go down one of those shafts! at least lower the camera on a rope!! where is this exactly?

  • you could ebay some of that shit, lol

  • I just went into one of these today really scary

  • This is rivetting stuff, the best video I've seen on you tube. My heart was in my mouth when I watched it the first time.

  • Awesome. Find anything cool?

  • what do you hope to find?

    you guys make rescuers work

    dangerous...

    you guys are morons,

    cheers, you survived this one!!!

    yipee!!!!

  • this is interesting but dangerous :S

  • lol i just watched this vid that said not to do anything theses guys just did but the vid was good and it wasnt me down there so hats off to u guys great vid

  • Yeah me too! "Stay out and stay alive video" - also hearing them say they found dynamite was shocking!

  • Helmets and decent head lamps! Dont be put off by the risk adverse, just focus on the environment. DO NOT mark your route with paint, chalk or anything alien to the environment. Use small piles of stones as you find them or map the place out as you go, noting points of interest, then publish your survey.

  • Very interesting-Great !

  • The boards were old but not rotten as I remember. It is a pretty dry desert out there. I stay far away from wet or rotting wood inside mines which is pretty common up in WA.

  • @ciagon This mine is so dry, the wood will never rott in there!

  • @ciagon That was a really cool video to see thank you for sharing and risking yer asses down there lol I woulda been the utra paranoid guy that was ready to turn back the whole time lol anyways man you and your friend be careful out there on those kind of adventures shits dangerous but you seem to be aware of that take care guys....

  • i wish i had ones of these is markham ontario

  • awesome mine, still has old dynamite boxes and drill steels layin around, this is the stuff i live for!!!! thanks for the video!

  • Bravoos guys!!! Awesome exploration.

  • awesome video , but very dangerous

  • Great looking mine. Very good quality. Looks like the supports are all in great shape. Reminds me of Gold Hill and many of the mines in Southern Utha. Where about is this mine?

  • next time take some chalk to mark the path

  • i love it by the way that paper would have been gone lol

  • thats awsome

  • i wouldve taken that newspaper

  • lookes like someting out of disneyland

  • Thanks for a very interesting video!
