There will always be whining from the rich when there is a tax increase. The highest marginal tax rate in this country was 70% as late as 1980. No matter how low you cut it, they will still complain about taxes. If they paid 5% and you wanted to raise it to 7%, they would still whine. Nobody likes taxes; they are a necessary evil. The best tax cut plan is across the board. The second best tax cut plan should be for those with lower incomes while not creating new taxes for the rich and business owners. Democrats absolutely do not understand that when you tax the rich and business owners, they will pass that tax down to the consumers in the form of increased sales taxes and price hikes. If you're a business owner and you suddenly got a big tax increase, what would you do?

Raising taxes during an economic downturn is a recipe for disaster that will cause a severe recession and/or depression. Obama says he'll only hike taxes on the rich, yet refuses to define who's rich, since he's one of them now. In an economic downturn, raising taxes would hurt. But wouldn't just plain borrowing and deficit spending and inflating our currency hurt our economy even more? That's what's been happening now for 8 years. This downturn was caused by deficit spending and we now have to pay for it or cut. More war McCain won't cut spending.

But the fact is that Bush's economic record has proven itself, by comparison to other rebound periods during the democratic rule, to be subpar. GDP growth as a percent, investment increasement, and average job growth have all been bad compared to clintons/other terms, and the poor have been getting poorer.

For all you who oppose Obama's tax cuts, take a look at the data. Under Bill Clinton, when tax brakes were given to the middle class, we had a SURPLUS. Under Bush's trickle down economy, we have the worst economic conditions since the GREAT DEPRESSION. And unless you think that the two are not related, the economy was pretty bad under Bush Sr. also. Obama is taking the tax code back to the Clinton era--which by all accounts ain't bad.

There will always be whining from the rich when there is a tax increase. The highest marginal tax rate in this country was 70% as late as 1980. No matter how low you cut it, they will still complain about taxes. If they paid 5% and you wanted to raise it to 7%, they would still whine. Nobody likes taxes; they are a necessary evil. The best thing is to ignore the barking and move forward.

Apparently TYT can't read too good. WSJ argument was about the fact that 40% of earners don't pay taxes as it is, therefore you can't 'cut' their taxes. Obama's plan would just simply send them a check, thus making it welfare. One point is that Obama's plan raises overall taxes. Sure, he lowers them for the middle class, but overall there is an increase in taxes. Obama can tax businesses and rich business owners if he wants. They will simply hire tax lawyers and professional accountants who will find more loopholes which exempt them and the middle class will eventually wind up bearing the brunt of Obama's tax hikes. Not only so, but this will encourage businesses to continue migrating to foreign countries where the tax burdens, labor burdens, and EPA restrictions are next to nothing. Don't kid yourself!

Yeah well the Clinton years were good but that's because spending was controlled which was good for interest rates etc, which combined with lower taxes are very favorable. The economy was great until W started spending. Poor guy no one bothered to tell him that he will be hated no matter what he does.

Actually, people are going to pay less on their premiums under Barack Obama's health plan. All he is doing is subsidizing the FEBP health program for all Americans. Also, he isn't taking away the private insurance system-he is using he NHE to help people afford their own insurance.
Unlike McCain's plan, Obama's health system doesnt leave all the sick and elderly in the cold and doesnt stick a higher tax bill to middle class folks.

Yes, it is welfare. It is not a tax cut, it is a REFUNDABLE TAX CREDIT that Obama is offering. If someone only owes $500 in taxes they get that covered and get handed an EXTRA $500. That is called wealth redistribution. It is bad when it happens to the rich or the poor. And I think is is horrendous when the top 10% of wage earners pay over half the entire amount taxed.

The best tax cut plan is across the board. The second best tax cut plan should be for those with lower incomes while not creating new taxes for the rich and business owners. Democrats absolutely do not understand that when you tax the rich and business owners, they will pass that tax down to the consumers in the form of increased sales taxes and price hikes. If you're a business owner and you suddenly got a big tax increase, what would you do?

Now that the rich got their huge tax break from Bush all they have been doing is keeping wages low and keeping prices just as high as they were before and keeping the extra profit for themselves instead of putting it back into the system to make things better for everyone. I certainly didn't get any break from it, my wages didn't go up. This trickle down theory is B.S. and everyone knows it. Give them taxes or lower them, they will do the samething either way, keep wages low and prices high.

In all the wars in the past we've raised taxes to pay for the war.
Lincoln raised taxes in the CW & put into effect the 1st Inheritance Tax.
Wilson increased taxes for WW1.
Roosevelt increased taxes for WW2.
LBJ put into effect the "War Tax" to help pay for VietNam -- which was cancelled after the war ended.
Bush spent wildly with no controls on war spending AND BORROWED HEAVILY FROM CHINA.

Raising taxes during an economic downturn is a recipe for disaster that will cause a severe recession and/or depression. Obama says he'll only hike taxes on the rich, yet refuses to define who's rich, since he's one of them now. BHO says he wants to punish others who've made it to the top, but in reality he will only hurt those still trying to make ends meet! Reversing Bush's tax cuts will INCREASE taxes on all those who pay taxes, the middle class. Obama knows the bottom class is no threat.

90% Bushes tax cuts went to the top 30% of wage earners. So letting those cuts expire, the top 30% of wage earners would pay 90% of the increase. Even a fool can see that.
In an economic downturn, raising taxes would hurt. But wouldn't just plain borrowing and deficit spending and inflating our currency hurt our economy even more? That's what's been happening now for 8 years. This downturn was caused by deficit spending and we now have to pay for it or cut. More war McCain won't cut spending.

Obama claims that the past 8 years have been an economic disaster. I don't think he has lived long enough to know an economic disaster when he sees one. We had a good economy until the Democrats took over Congress in January 2007. From then on the economy went in the tank because Democrats wanted to cause a recession before the November'08 election. They wanted a recession, and they succeeded in causing one. If you are hurting economically now, you can thank Democrats like Pelosi, Reid and Dodd.

"good" is only a useful term when used in comparison to terms of other presidents. After the recession of 2001-2004, the economy rebounded, but thats bound to happen with any fiscal policy. But the fact is that Bush's economic record has proven itself, by comparison to other rebound periods during the democratic rule, to be subpar. GDP growth as a percent, investment increasement, and average job growth have all been bad compared to clintons/other terms, and the poor have been getting poorer.

This moron obviously doesn't understand the way tax policy operates which is why his show is on YouTube instead of on TV or radio. When rich people get tax cuts, they get back more of the money that the government took from them in taxes. Most poor people don't pay federal taxes because they're below the cut-off line. Working class don't pay much in taxes because they don't make much. So these $1000+ "tax cuts" give them back more than they gave to the government. That's welfare dude.
