  • The pilot was Germany's virtuoso fighter ace, Hans-Joachim Marseille, killed 30 September, 1942, aged 22. This was his favorite song.

  • Marseille used to play the piano - he was a big fan of music [mainly not-german music] ...

  • He had the sweetest nature according to Edu Neumann, and always had time for a chat and a joke with even the lowliest crewman.

" He looked and flew like an angel and fought like a demon ! "

  • He had the sweetest nature according to Edu Neumann, and always had time for a chat and a joke with even the lowliest crewman.

" He looked and flew like an angel and faught like a demon ! "

  • Interesting... I found this video looking for Marseille's fave song too...=)

  • This is cultural stuff ;)

  • Its funny to think of Marseille humming this song in his Messerschmitt while taking out Spitfires like fish in a barrel.

  • Armando Oréfiche, a gretat Cuban composer, this piece was play for the first time in the Casino of Montecarlo. I had the honor and pleasure of meet Maestro Orefiche at the end of his life, he was a gentlemen.

He also wrote Rubablanca (wonderful piece) and Rumbacolorá),

Gracias Maestro Oréfiche for all that wonderful music that you gave us.

  • YES!! I have also been looking for this since i heard it on Aimee and Jaguar!!! so excited!!!!

  • Ahhhhhhh. Looking for this for SO long. Ever since I heard it in the film Aimee and Jaguar. THANK YOU!

  • fantastic thank you

  • Great singer.

    Thank you for sharing Kostas.

  • austanding orchestra!and austanding tenor alberto rabagliati!

  • @kostgian

Bellissimo, anche la voce di Rabagliati.

  • Wirklich spitzen Klasse!

¡Felicidades! ¡Ojalá pueda IHEARTBRIGHTON escuchar Crisantemo del mismo compositor.

  • I believe the singer is the great Italian tenor, Alberto Rabagliati, who was with the LCBoys during the 30's. Great song and orchestra, love those saxophones, thanks for posting,

  • I discovered this song reading the bio of a WWII German Pilot that loved this song, and it was played over and over when he died at 22 in Sept. 1942. Awesome song. Esta musica es lo mejor.

  • 30 sept

  • @zimadude99

Alas , poor Jochen . He would have been 90 yrs old a few days ago. RIP

  • @zimadude99 Dear zimadude 99.

The name of the fighter pilot was Hans-Joachim Marseille.

He was a hero and a very friendly person.

He died on 30 Sept. 1942 by an accident.

Sadly in germany you are not allowed to have symathie for soldiers who fhought in WWII.

  • @zimadude99 Could you tell me the name of the bio please?

  • @timeanagain hey there...the pilot's name was Marseille... they called him 'The star of Afrika'......he had something like 153 victories to his name......I do know that he came from a French Huguenot family..the bio shouldn't too hard to find on yahoo.....

  • @downunderfrog thanks I found the book! Looks like a good one. I love the music too.

  • @timeanagain The name is Hans-Joachim Marseille, and there is an article in Wikipedia.

    Enjoy.

  • @zimadude99 same here! Hans-Joachim Marsielles is my favorite fighter ace!

  • @zimadude99

Yup, Hans-Joachim Marseilles, widely considered the finest combat pilot on either side during the war. Imagine a steady stream of battle-hardened Lufwaffe aces visiting his body in that desert airfield sickbay while this song plays constantly in the background. Surreal!

  • que barbaro...que herosa melodia

    de donde era esta orquesta?

  • @l0b1z0n . Saludos... Cubana

  • I think half of the views are from me :)

I discovered this song whilst watching a film and I had to find this song i LOVE it!

    Just shows you, I'm 15 and i like this 1938(?) Piece !

  • And by me. xD Also discovered watching a film.

  • aimee and jaguar?

  • Yes indeed, Aimee and Jaguar :)

  • @IHEARTBRIGHTON do a search for "Caetano Veloso Rumba Azul"

  • Very sensual
