You know, the whole 'approaching god robed in deception' is a more believable alternative explanation for Jesus. You see, Jesus saw what a tyrant his father was, and in order to fool his evil plans to torture everyone for eternity, he came up with the whole sacrifice thing himself to screw over his evil dads system.
Ignore all those biblical passages that contradict this. The devil can quote scripture to his own ends, don't you know.
Many translations of Genesis 37:28 say that the brothers drew him out of the pit. I note that KJV and NKJV do not, and that no Hebrew word relating to "brother" appears in the verse. At the same time, the original texts were not punctuated or divided into verses (I believe), so it could very well have been the brothers who took him out, and the words "Midianites" and "Ishmaelites" refer to the same people. This is, of course, my analysis with a concordance, and I know nothing of Hebrew.
We should rewrite the bible according to Shauns memory. It wouldn't make a difference, because the stories collected in the bible are done the same way. They are all oral stories written down later on that do not resemble the original.
Well, given the general archetypes of human tales... your conclusions would make sense. And that all the cultures in the area borrowed from and lent to each other...
@brettppalmer Judging by the comments here and on VFX's video, you and Sean are both preaching to your own choirs. Sadly he has three times as many subscribers, and they buy all of his bs. He impresses the hell out of them. Here's one of my favorites from his page:

The idea that Dawkins gives PCS even a nanosecond's thought is hilarious.
Pity that someone as intelligent as Shawn (though clearly suffering from some emotional disturbance) spends his time and energy on this crap. And all for nothing. The New Testament was written by people intimately familiar with the old, thousands of years after the old. They clearly backed into it. And I don't see the need to prove that the Old Testament has all this code in it anyway. What does it prove?
It's so sad to think that if this boy had picked up a Carl Sagan book or video instead of Kent Hovind DVDs, he might be contributing something to the world right now instead of slowly driving himself mad with these weird, conspiratorial interpretations of the bible. Religion, if taken seriously, twists minds until all logic and rationality are gone.
22:38 made me laugh out loud. Josh, if you read this: is the cool 'X' in your nickname also a secret macrocode for the Holy Cross? Of course you couldn't use a '+', for then it would be too plain and thickies could learn it too easily, eh?
At its heart, this is the combination of two phenomena. First, the human brain is such that it recognizes patterns. Often times, this can result in false positives; seeing a pattern when one does not exist. This is combined with the confirmation bias at the information gathering and interpretation stages (he even exhibits such a bias at the stage of recollection; i.e. "lamb's" blood). (cont)
(cont) Now, as for the first two, we often refer to this as "cherry picking." It would be harmful enough to fail to recognize such errors and biases; but more often than not, we see theists encouraging and building upon these flaws, (emotional reasoning could be used as an example) meaning that it is inevitable that one's conclusions will not reflect reality.
@naejimba Sort of like one of our ancestors mistaking the sound of thunder for a really big sky creature and then building from that over the generations a religion which mistakes natural phenomena and coincidences with supernatural activity...
@naejimba Steady on. I bitterly object to you classifying VFX in the same species as the rest of us humans. I'll grudgingly concede that he is in the same genus Homo but wise he most certainly is NOT!
I propose we call him and his kind Homo creationalensis and relegate them to sub-human status. Let the comparative vivisection begin. Can I cut him up now please?
It's better than using distant relatives such as chimps. Please, can I?
I have discovered that striking my forehead with the palm of my hand exacerbates my experience of tinnitus. When Mr. Karon claimed to "imagine" that Joseph had been trapped in a pit for three days, my tinnitus was, soon after, exacerbated.
This was like watching an excellent episode of Columbo, .. in the final scene, the killer thinks he's got away scot free, .. Columbo walks away to the door, .. then suddenly stops and turns, .. "Oh, by the way" . . .
Of course VFX demonstrates the biggest problem with the bible. It is not a simple and plain factual account of reality. It is a bunch of allegory and metaphors, with to much room for the reader to project their personal desires on the characters. The bible is little more then a series of slightly entertaining stories written so long ago that it lack any modern worth. It should be put away on a shelf with the rest of the fictional text from the same time period. VFX is to subjective on the issue
You forgot the blatantly obvious. Let's suppose for one minute that the "macrocode" idea is all true, and that the Joseph story is really a preview of what's going to come.
What if the opposite really happened? What if the story of jebus was copied on the story of Joseph?? Some Atheists actually think this is the case.
BTW, Shawn's idea reminds me of C.S. Lewis who also hints to some kind of foresight in ancient texts. The difference is Lewis thinks the pre-bible mythologies contain details about things that will happen later. (It can't possibly be that the authors of the bible copied details from older mythologies!)
@AtheismTV No, I covered that, if only briefly, in the conclusion. NT patterns (if there are any) of Jesus's story were taken from the OT and not vice versa. In other words, the NT authors combed through the OT in search of ways to connect Jesus with these older stories, not that the older stories prefigured (in a prophetic way) the life, ministry, death and resurrection of Christ.
@brettppalmer It's ridiculous the way some people point to OT to back them up (theologically), but when you mention the OT condoning slavery, infanticide, etc, then 'the OT doesn't count'.
This macrocode nonsense would be a form of gnosticism, and if they were half a millenium in the past, they would have been excommunicated and labelled heretics for false teachings.
It's the biggest shame that they condemn secularism, which is what gave them the opportunity to openly reinterpret scripture.
the art of crushing someones argument really really thourghly but taking enough time to hear the omminous crack and crunch of every last darn syllable in the process. Pure genius.

I have found a mysterious macrocode I had a full glass of wine then I looked and most of it was gone. Perhaps this is the way the Easter Bunnies find their mysterious forest. Further research is required before I go into greater detail. Perhaps Elves have something to do with it, but is still a working theory. ;-)
@MistressArte HAHA That's a fantastic theory, but clearly neither elves nor easter bunnies are responsible for the disappearance of your wine. The real culprit is the dryad who steals wine from unsuspecting glasses because alcohol has the opposite affect on dryads than it does on humans. The dryad needs to sober up...
Bret, you should demonstrate your conclusion in another video. Pick a random fictional book, and play the part of Shawn just for shits and giggles. I'd love to see you make your own macrocodes to show how truly ridiculous this concept is.
There are other stories which can be drawn from the bible if they are connected to sources outside the bible. One thesis comes from Joseph Atwill: /watch?v=g40Eck6gW7U

Sounded conclusive to me; although I did not check all his sources.
