jd's aren't as tough as devils,any parachromis,salvini's,texas,bu­ttis,umbees,black nasty,black belt and a few other species but you do get exceptions and all fish are individuals just depends on the fish in questions desire to win the fight, my jd backs down from a same size salvini and a slightly smaller 1, my dads jd is 8 inch male and backs down to a 6 inch tiger oscar sometimes, but ive heard of jd's killing devil's and any other tankmate so it just depends...

RD would kill anything. mine killed 3 dempseys bigger than him. devil is 1 yr old and dempseys were about 9 months but about 2inches bigger.

Exactly...People need to open their eyes..because my dempsey only likes female dempseys, and will kill any mother fu**ing fish out there...My red devil is bad ass and act's like he own's the tank..so I took out the divider and that piece of sh** red devil got his ass wooped..Now I'm trying to what will happen the next day..Funny because my dempsey is the devils size!

Note: Please READ-...jack dempsey's are usually calm, but when a fish challenges them to a fight...the dempsey would fuck that thing up..trust me I've seen it before.

@SomeThingGoneWrong1 Depends. If the Dempsey is the same size and decides to fight, it's got more firepower. Dempsey's have extremely powerful jaws, and Red Devils can't handle it. But, Red Devils are more aggressive.

Tilapia Mariae's are the worst though. They aren't particularly powerful, but they are extremely aggressive. They'll clear out a tank of Devils.

@TA152H01 im afraid im going to have to disagree with you on that one.i have a red devil,jack dempsey and a convict.the rest either got killed while growing up or died.my red devil is the newest fish and not only did my red devil steal my dempseys territory but it also stole his dominence.my jack dempseys lip is all shredded because of my red devil but the camara doesn't pick it up because their still too small

@SomeThingGoneWrong1 A lot depends on the individuals. Dempseys always have stronger jaws - they crush shells with them. They aren't as nasty as Red Devils though, and don't get as big, and Red Devils win a lot because of that too.

Tilapia Mariaes tend to kill Devils though, because they're much more aggressive. But, I found a way to keep them with other fish. If you keep the water cool (70 degrees or so), you can keep them with other fish. After 75 or so, watch out.

@SomeThingGoneWrong1 It's very funny you should say that. I've had my two Red Devils killed in the past months. My Jack Dempsey killed the larger of the two, while my Black Belt finished the other. "Any day"? I think not. xD They are pretty bad fish though. The term "Devil" very befitting. lol

Maybe u saw a red belly get beat by the devil, which is probably the least aggresive piranha. The real red belly from the amazon is called the caribe and has a black spot on its side. Caribe is a mean fish, but still would end up as sushi in the tank with the black rhom.

All chiclids are aggressive, power, and the best in there own right. They come in may shapes, forms, and sizes. Dempsy's are named after the world famous boxer, and like him are small(med actually), yet take no shit, they will attack anything, and everything, even if they cant win. When I was young and just starting out I,stupidly put a red devil and a jack demspey in a 10 gallons tank, because of a heater malfunction. The red devil strip the jack Demspey of it scales. It happen in 30 mins. I felt terrible

thats pretty much true, I had to buy my red devil a 200g tank. funny thing is the JDs tried to eat him when he was small, so i had to put him in 10g, guess they knew what was comin, then when he was too big to fit in their mouths, yet still smaller than them, i put him back in. Way too aggre. for my JDs, no way Im lettin him hurt my JDs. So i got him his own tank

if your like me u prob. love your RD. get a divider until you can get him his own tank. If possible. They are great fish, but if your RD is like mine then your convict, firemouth, and dempsey wont hold up with him. oh yeah watch that convict with the firemouth and even your dempsey. They shouldnt be a problem. but just keep an eye out. Convicts can be little beasts
