  • made in the Ives Shops at Bridgeport, Conn., U.S.A.

  • I hope I work that well when I'm 90

  • Very cool!

  • Wonder if the modern trains will still run in 90 years! They built them well back then.

  • wow nice job.

  • i have an old trains like that to it was my grandpas it has that gravely sound when it runs too.

  • hloy shit!!!!!

    OLD

  • It sounds like it needs to be fixed up a little.

  • I have this same Train!! Are you interested in it? :) 5* (One car says "saratoga".

  • Todays Lionel/MTH trains wont be around in 90 years. Got him going pretty fast there.

  • I received these three passenger cars as a gift and I purchased the engine today on eBay. I plan to make a video with my father-in-law, born in 1916 (going strong) and my set. In our throw-away society, I respect survivors, both trains and persons.

  • What engine did you score and which passenger cars?

  • @barrister2u your grandpa is 95!??!?!?!?!? is he still good?

  • my lionel broke wen it derailed off the table it still works its that the plastic train cover is coming off the engine and all that any way that i culd fix it and P.S. any 1 no any place in or around the east / west kootneys B.C. Canada, were i can get electric trains

  • Thanks for the vid, I have a 3217 and a 3218 and they both still run great with all their original wiring and brushes as well. Just cleaned the motors and all was fine. In regards to the first comment, for pity's sake, what's to restore? This thing looks great! Postwar train guys amaze me!

  • Thanks for the kind comment. Would love to see some vids of your trains :)

  • 90 years old! That is amazing I hope my lionels from the fifties will last that long! BTW any plans of restoring her?

  • Thanks for the comment. You can bet your USA made lionels will last a LONG time. I think I will keep this ives train in its original condition cosmetically anyway...though I will rewire and service the engine further. Thnx.

  • i have three lionel 2-6-0s as well as two sets of A-A santa fes, all from the 50s

they were passed down from my grandfather to dad and now to me

    still run great!!

those Santa Fe diesels weigh like 8 pounds, put out a lot of traction w/o tires

magne traction still does the job

  • Glad to hear your Dad and Grandpa are passing down the joy of trains. Those are pieces to treasure. BTW, MagneTraction ROCKS!

  • seriously!

i have the old style lionel track, tubular with tight turns

i can run a pair at full throttle at a turn and they don't even tilt at all

but the 2-6-0s are so heavy, they can pull 20 or so cars without magnetraction
