I received these three passenger cars as a gift and I purchased the engine today on eBay. I plan to make a video with my father-in-law, born in 1916 (going strong) and my set. In our throw-away society, I respect survivors, both trains and persons.
my lionel broke wen it derailed off the table it still works its that the plastic train cover is coming off the engine and all that any way that i culd fix it and P.S. any 1 no any place in or around the east / west kootneys B.C. Canada, were i can get electric trains
Thanks for the vid, I have a 3217 and a 3218 and they both still run great with all their original wiring and brushes as well. Just cleaned the motors and all was fine. In regards to the first comment, for pity's sake, what's to restore? This thing looks great! Postwar train guys amaze me!
Thanks for the comment. You can bet your USA made lionels will last a LONG time. I think I will keep this ives train in its original condition cosmetically anyway...though I will rewire and service the engine further. Thnx.

i have three lionel 2-6-0s as well as two sets of A-A santa fes, all from the 50s
they were passed down from my grandfather to dad and now to me
still run great!!
those Santa Fe diesels weigh like 8 pounds, put out a lot of traction w/o tires

seriously!
i have the old style lionel track, tubular with tight turns
i can run a pair at full throttle at a turn and they don't even tilt at all
but the 2-6-0s are so heavy, they can pull 20 or so cars without magnetraction
