I cannot understand why Killing Joke dont get more internatioal recognition. Many of their songs are better than what Led Zeppelin did. Geordie Walker is at least as good as Jimmie Page (in my opinon better). So many bands ripped of KJ,
KJ continually evolved their sound. I guess some people wanted them to be AC/DC and put out the same damn album 25 times. I never liked anything after Brighter Than........but Democracy was pretty solid (I liked the tribal thing). The problem is that after Brighter Than they started sounding like every 1/8th note, power chord chugging, run of the mill band that they influenced to begin with.
@tanpiltanpil yeah i totally dig that atmosphere. I remember being down at the old water filtration plant (gorgeous gothic architecture, a heritage site) and the rain was pouring down on a cold october night, reflecting on the lights and building. the wind was blowing, waves crashing on the shore...no one to be seen anywhere. so many memories of the rain and overcast, dark days etc...was in a darker place then anyhow.......
When an echo continues to play and you find it reverberate away a way into some cloistered chamber farther than bicameral bar not recognition, inspiration by ignition be cast into revery that might last .
@949janis Hey it's the internet circa 2011. It's pretty much mandatory when someone disagrees with you to call them a little faggot bitch, state that you butt raped their mother and that you would fuck them up if you ever met them. Kids these days........oh wait even so called "grown ups" have adopted this habit. SIGHHHH......
a kindler, gentler KJ more akin to the Cure than they previous incarnation. Decent song but just lacks the force of previous albums. Thank god Extremities came along and relit the fire...

We are the band called "Dear Joe", we just recorded our first single : "Wait and See".
We are 4 boys between 14 and 16 from Amsterdam, we try to make happy and summer-feeling music, please check our first song out on our channel by clicking our username or /watch?v=GAQsjzeJqkg !
I heard this on annie nightingales request show on radio 1 years ago but never caught who it was.. many searches later and I was led here, thank you :)
Here's Geordie doing his inimitable orchestral noise. In a way, he's able to show what only he can do on the band's rare Romantic songs (romantic with a capital 'R'): This one, Solitude, the slow breakdown in the middle of the Extremities song, the Hum (best of all worlds). Sure, he can do everything. And clearly Jaz made a decision after Democracy that the band was meant for catharis and cataclysm, not dreaminess. Raven prettied up ... can laugh now! Incredibly, pop radio played this.
Great Song-. "Brighter than a Thousand Suns" was the soundtrack to my life in the Summer of 1987. Too lazy to bring out the old vinyl - thanks for posting.
Brighter Than a Thousand Suns is when the Joke jumped the shark for me. However, it's still a trip to see this video. It really brings me back to a much better time.
I too had a change of heart about this album about ten years ago. I hated it when it first came out, but as my tastes matured, I came admire the way every Killing Joke album is unique. Brighter Than A Thousand Suns is probably the best new wave album of all time.
A day in my adolescents I will never forget, a chilly feb night all crammed in my friends crappy little car with this song blaring all I can see now is our smiling youthful faces with not a care in the world. It was amazing. RIP Paul Raven
i don't know why it does... it's 1 of my most often played albums, along with Night Time & Fire Dances :) As much as they strayed from this, i think it's rather interesting how i like this & Ministry's Twitch album the most... & that they both came out the same year & have a very similar genre changing history!
'when I was college (right around 88) I decided to drive from Pullman to Spokane one night because I was locked out of my dorm room, and I had nothing else to do. This had been one of my favorite albums since it came out, and I listened to it that whole time. At one point I was so tired I started seeing things so I pulled over by an old abandoned diner and slept for a bit, listening to this very tape. To this day I feel that hallucinogenic thing when I listen to this. I love this record.
