  • I was like 5 when I saw this movie and it scared the shiit out of me lol

  • Why was I introduced to this movie as a little kid?

  • haha...this is what is wrong with my generation...we grew up watching stuff like this and the excorsist lol

  • Jim Henson - I love you, but this shit seriously fucked with me as a child. What the fuck were my parents thinking?

  • This is the freakiest film I've ever seen in my freaking life!

  • It's interestijng how everyone uploads footage of the Skeksis, but the mystics are left out almost entirely.

  • I think it would have been a good idea for them to have this language of their in the actual film.

It would help to cement this world as alien in the minds of the audience.

After all, why should almost every fictional world speak english?

  • @TheJboy88 You make a good point, the the inheirent problem is you have to read subtitles or don't know what's going on, as happened with the test audiences here.

  • @toby4700 If that's such a problem for them it's no wonder foreign language films never do too well.

  • @TheJboy88 I'm not too sure about that. Passion of the Christ was hugely successful, as with Apocalypto. Both of which were entirely in languages other than English.

  • Goodness, hearing only the Skaksis language and having no subs it looks like the new emperor is ordering them to rape the chamberlain xD

  • You can't win a baseball game in the top of the 9th inning. Chamberlin got one hit. The other Skeksis got two. Chamberlin should have a chance at a second hit. To equal or tie the other Skeksis.

  • @bigfilmhat, my guess is that cleaving the stone in half gave the General an instant win. Makes sense in what appears to be a contest to see who can dent a rock the best.

  • @WeirdoOfWeirdos

I meant to say "equal or beat". But, yeah, here I'm complaining that the skeksis aren't being fair, lol.

  • I'm taking a skeksis language course this semester, I can translate if someone has a question.

  • This is like a bad acid trip

  • Typical Berkeley City Council Meeting

  • A la' PUSSY!!

  • This scene has rooted in my subconcious since I was 4. Scary shit...

  • The fact that you can watch this scene, have no idea what they're saying and still understand everything that is going on is really a testament to how great a filmmaker Jim Henson was.

  • Chamberlain was raped omg

  • The Lord Chamberlain sounds a lot cooler speaking in this language.

  • I'm born in '82 and I believe this is the first movie I've ever seen... If you think this was scary you apparently don't know the german version of the skeksis xD.

The chamberlain's whimpering is much more annoying (!), the general much more agressive, etc. (Okay maybe I just think it, because I saw that version in my childhood...).

    You can watch it here:

/watch?v=DcJ69OUtaKQ&feature=related at 2.21. (the whole movie is uploaded)

I would like to know what you think xD

  • so fucking creepy. seems so much more evil without english

  • @theoutletsband the Chamberlain's whimper sounds really creepy here with the language - weirdly out of place. One minute he sounds like a crying child, and the next satanic.

  • This is arguably the most EPIC scene in the entire history of Science Fiction / Fantasy movies!!!

  • Oh my god...my life is complete...a long time ago (around 10 years ago) i saw the scene where Chamberlain was undressed and it morbidly scared me and has haunted me for so long! I never knew the name of the film, know i have search and found this, and curiosity finally satisfied, i can honestly say i shall no longer be haunted by the shrilling whimpering of chamberlain...i can cry just about now.....

  • wtf is going on!!!

  • @ 3:30 most epic yell ever.

  • they look like jackals from halo

  • If you want to see Michael Kilgarriff (the voice of the new Emperor) do another role, then do a youtube search on "aladin michael kilgarriff"

  • This is going to haunt my dreams for years.

  • @stupidguyx it already did for me

  • @stupidguyx

Read my comment above....it will haunt you :(

  • I wonder what language is this or is it a combination of different languages like some of the creatures in Star Wars? Just wanted to know. Does anyone have an idea?

  • @feetler I heard its Greek and egyptian

  • I'm wondering what the rules of Hakskeekah are. Do the challengers just take turns whacking at the stone and the one that breaks off a piece of the stone first is the winner?

  • they look like something between vulture and pterodactyl...i wonder if that was the intention.

  • do you have the one in which aughra is shown before the skeksis by the garthim?

  • Word of the day: "Haaksheekaah!!!"

    :D

  • This is a great movie, don't get me wrong. But it WAS made for children. Not adults, but children. I'm not saying enjoying it as an adult is a bad thing, I'm just saying alot of the fans of this movie seem to be in denial about the fact that it's a children's movie. Which it is

  • haha, someone yelled "pussy" at 2 49

  • LOL your right..... HAHAHAHAHAHA

  • @matthewrbarton

LOOOOOL he is yelling "I LIKE PUSSAY!"

  • @matthewrbarton Sounded like Timmy from Southpark yelling it.

  • Does anyone elce think that if the Skaven Warhammer race were in a film, they would be very simmula to the Skec'Si

  • @Virusoffline I think they would....Besides the skeksis and the skaven do have similar habits and behaviors. For example:Both races are paranoid towards their own kin,and both are backstabbing cowards.

  • I totally prefer this workprint. I wish he stayed with it.

  • The Skeksis rock. They are my favorite villains of all time.

  • HAKSKEEGAH!!!!

I think they should have put out a version with all the original dialouge....this,........ when the mystics speak, augrah's original (kermit ) sounding voice.

  • Curious that they changed it. Were they planning on using subtitles at first?

  • Yeah, Jim Henson gave the Skeksis their own language but at a screening he got complaints that the subtitles were too distracting and took from the visuals.

  • well yeah... to me this is a kid's movie. And only some kids read and write. I was 3 the first time i saw this. I could read/write maybe a handful of words. Subtitles would have ruined that first experience.

  • When watching these original scenes, it suddenly makes sense why the Chamberlain, when speaking to Jen and Kira, suddenly speaks a poorly structured, heavily accented English, even in the theatrical cut.

  • I just think its funny that the MMmmM skeksis is voiced by the same guy that did the voice of Miss Piggy.

  • hmmmmhmmm why it should be me

  • also @3:05 seconds that's not the final cut, but it was his yell.

  • Hakkskeegah!

    ( challenge!!!! )-trial by stone.

  • Poor SkekSil!

  • SHESHOKAH!!!!

  • i hate skeksis's

    they sacre me

  • that "MMMMmmmm" skeksi really sounds like grover when he screams... i wonder if it was the same voice actor.

  • yeah it does lol

  • Frank Oz, the voice of Grover, was the puppeteer for the Chamberlain, but the character was voiced by Barry Dennen who played Pontius Pilate on both stage/screen in "Jesus Christ Superstar".

  • probably like frank oz or one of them

  • yes. mr oz

  • I don't know which I like better...being able to know what they're saying is nice, but it's extra creepy when you don't. They should release a special edition with the original dialogue in it and with the funeral scene.

  • I wanted chamberlin to win back when i first seen this in like 86

  • A weird movie but very good. One of my favorites ever since I was a kid. I hope the sequel materializes.

  • HAKKSKEEGAHH ! mmmmm ! Ahhhhh !

lmao this part is wierd but hilarious

  • TRIAL BY STONE! TRIAL BY STONE!

  • this things are so scary, very creepy scene...anyways, great classic movie

  • omg i havent seen this for like 15 years:O thanks 4 putting it on here

  • wow they did there best to make the scene as alien as hell didnt they ,

  • if you think about it..its kinda reminds me of transformers megatron and starscream

  • 4:25

  • Oh this is cool. It really gives you a sense that the skeksis are a separate group from the rest of the world, and gives them a bit more individuality. Plus I just plain out like the voices.

I like the part where they rip off skekSil's clothes. I mean, I kinda feel bad for him, but I still like the idea of a naked skekSil. >8D

I pretty much had a fit at that part the first time I saw the film. "OMGOMGOMG! *Pant*"

  • fucken skeksis.

  • JUST PLAIN SCARY.

  • The Skeksis always creep me out! Fizzgig was always my favourite character. Did you know that they're bringing out a new Dark Crystal movie in 2010? For Dark Crystal fans, there's a new Dark Crystal manga series created by TokyoPop, that's set years before the movie. There is also a manga called Return to Labyrinth manga also from the same company, and Toby's central in those novels.

  • what did they do to the loser??

  • Ripped his clothes off lol

  • im gonna be having nightmares for a month... scartes the crap out of me and idk why

  • Comment removed

  • also, what the hell is HAHKSKEEKAH??

    like...challenge?

  • trial by stone, if the real language version is anything to go by :)

  • where's the subtitles?

  • There arn't any. This was how they originally wanted the film to be.

  • no, they put subtitles on there originally, so people had to read 'em, so that's why this language was nixed. i thought...

  • But how should the audience understand, what´s going on, then? Just from context?

And why shouldn´t the Gelfings and the other people speak their own language, too.

But I think, the Skeksis language sounds interesting and makes the scene even more creepy.

  • you're missing one scene and that is where aughra is brought in to the skesis after their dinner

  • @AnotherWorld82 wrong..there were subtitles..even explains this on IMBD and WIKI...Jim Henson should this film to a test audience in San FRAN.....and IT went real bad..He cut out 20 minutes...and replaced the subtitles with voices....

  • Scared the shit out of me when I was a kid.

  • Ahh yeh man, I used to have nightmares about them walking around in my room :S

  • Wow imagine those fuckers would exist in real life. You'd never sleep again.

  • can some one plz tell me wtf they did to that guy?

  • My fav Skeksi is the one in the gold and stuff at 3:51

I also like the New Emperor and the dude with the long beak and glasses.

That was such a cool movie!! It scared the shit out of me when I was like 5, and I can never stop watching the movie!!! It got me into all sorts of things.

  • Haaksheekaah

  • SkekNa (the one with the eyepatch) sound's so much scarier in this version

  • Sounds like a mix of spanish and german to me, but now that I've watched the original it seems to me they should've kept it that way, it would've given it a much darker feel to the movie then what they put into the movie afterwards.

  • no german in there dawg

  • The Skeksis language is actually made up, but it's modeled after ancient Greek and Egyptian.

  • SkekUng only says one word when pronounced emperor in the original, but in the re-dub the line "Now, bow down to me, I am emperor? is added when his mouth's not moving.

  • in english its scary when he says skesis friend

    0.0v

  • And again, maybe re-dubbing the film was a better choice than the subtitles, but, damn, they should have lest their normal voices D: I mean, the guys that gave them the voices in their original skeksis language should have did the same in english... I love SkekZok's voice in the original version so much <3

lol and SkekZok's face on 4:35 is like "omg I left you only for 5 minutes O.O''' "

  • The original dialogue really adds a much more creepy element to the film. It's good they took it out or else everyone would have been stuck reading sub-titles instead of paying attention to the amazing puppetry.

  • Actually have to agree, but it still would be great to watch the original ^^ or at least them having their english dialogues dubbed by the same people that dubbed them in their original language.

  • this is soooo much cooler.

  • wow they sound very scary speaking spanish...like REALLY SCARY

  • It's not Spanish.

Henson originally had the Skekses speaking their own language with english subtitles (kindof like Jabba the Hutt).

After the first screening, they decided that the subtitles distracted too much and they just re-dubbed it in English.

  • R they Spanish or Mexican or what?

  • the costumes look Spanish to me so this is a trippy clip to stumble upon!

  • why did they rape that other skeksi? a simple see ya later would have sufficed

  • because rape is fun. (i kid, i kid)

  • no i was so scared of this movie too !

  • I thought it was facintating when I was young

  • Am i the only person this scared the shit out of as a child?

  • LMFAO in a sense no but I was afraid of the dark 4 a short while because of the skeksis! I could hear his whimpering at night hmmm mmm mmmm!

  • I thought the crab things were scary as hell ^^

  • Hell yes

    Gina<3Carlos!

  • Hell yes

    Carlos<3Gina!

  • woooooooo

    Carlos <3

  • wo0o0o0

    Gina<3

  • I like the Skeksi language! Though I like their new english voices too. Haakskeekah!
