Wow -- Mary Travers is the freak'in "mom" mtRNA|DNA to Gisel Bündchen, among the recent decade's mega-top-dollar-paid fashions models ever...whereas, many contemporaneous critics et al narrow thinkers, discounted Mary's "strong looks" as, at best, a cruder version of the "Julie Christie school of peroxide-locks"; whereas, in retrospect--at least for newer generations--review of the ubber-graphical stagings, w/high-key lighting, proves my salient point. Not my type, but lookers all the same!
anyone no matter who, if you had the NERVE to dislike this song because your all into rock and pop, so am i. But i liked it. Because I have respect. Not to mention taste and BRAINS... :(.
It is sad that most Americans can't even sing the national Anthem let a lone this land is your land, We really look at our roots and remember our patriotic songs
9/11/01, may we never forget. Be it tonight at the tenth anniversary, ten years from now, and so on. We must continue the legacy that Mary Travers left us with and carry on this legendary music, because it's so much more than entertaining music. It was, is, and will always be a symbol of hope, peace, justice, liberty, and freedom. If we don't, the answer will still be blowin' in the wind. May we carry on the legacy of Peter, Paul, and Mary to continue to work towards a world of peace! RIP Mary
@KaisaLisa -What an ignorant comment. You have a lot of growing up to do. If you're a "liberal," I'd be embarrassed to be so narrow minded. Drawing conclusions from appearances that constitute a second or two camera shot only shows how warped your own state of mind is! Name tags are for followers, not leaders.
I grew up in the 60s & early 70s, listening to Peter Paul & Mary. Today I enjoy their music as much if not more than I did then. They sang of Peace, & Love, something we do not have nearly enough of in this world!
@ caitimacd, Me too. I grew up during the same time period and listened to them and still do and love them as much now as way back then. I am with you !
You know it's the damndest thing I'm as Canadian as maple syrup and this song still just gives me such a warm fuzzy feeling. It's like if everyone loved each other enough to just share everything.. I don't even know where I'm going with this but it's just nice.
@fantabulousK I remember being up in the Northern Rockies around Jasper and listening to the young kids sing this song with a Canadian version. I thought it was very cool even though I was a Yank just passing through.
i got a chance to meet peter yarrow he was entertainment for the opening of blockbuster i even got a picture with i was 3 years old i'm now 21 and went to a concert on saturday and had that picture signed
It was mid summer of 1967, and I was a Marine stationed in Iwakuni, Japan. PPM performed at the Hiroshima prefectural gym and Special Services had an extra ticket so, since my lady was visiting her parents before she began a new life in America with me, I went to see them. I ended up in the parking lot beside Peter Yarrow translating for the girls that wanted 'sepun' ... a kiss, and helping keep the kids in order as Peter reveled in signing autographs. It was a special moment in my life. RIP M.
@jbertone09 I saw PP & M at a small gym at Central WA College in Ellensburg, WA in 1964. i fell in love with Mary. I didn't know I'd be in Vietnam a few years later.
Una de las mas hermosas y sentimentales canciones americanas. Muchos imigrantes como yo, la abrazamos y la queremos. Este grupo ha rayado muchos corazones con compasion y amor. ¡Gracias PP&M!.
Sloopy, I appreciate your remarks and heart felt emotion. I was a teenager when I first discovered PP and M and spent my meager allowance towards my first album. Now I'm closing in on 60 and I think they were just such fine performers that gave us inspiration, hope, and a sense that the world could be good.
I am crying now. I had the honor of listening to Peter and joining him in song with many others-young and old, we were one and full of hope. Later I talked to Peter about Nam and how their songs brought us peace. I thanked him for the song he sang against prejudice to any group including gays. We talked about the suicidal gay youth I work with in trying to help them understand their significance. We huged, pictures were taken. It is one of my most cherished possessions. God bless you P,P, and M.
@sloopy312 i mhad the great luck of seeing 6 concerts and hugs and pic also..i remember mary pulling me aside and telling me a secret her hugs were the best.G - D bless her
This looks like a Christmas Concert. It was special, but every PP&M concert I saw was special. This Land was their encore, with the audience singing out loud enough for Woody to hear. The last time I saw them was at Wolf Trap a couple of years ago. Mary was sick, but her voice was all there.
Yeah. They played at Wolf Trap at least a couple of times over the years that I recall. I live in northern Virginia right near Wolf Trap out on Route 7.
@rkolker This was their Holiday concert with the New York Choral Society somewhere around '89 or '90. I grew up watching this concert on VHS year-round. :)

Two years ago, Mary left. Her disease lasted for 10 years.
One of the last appearance was another monument :
"Where have all the flowers gone" with Pete Seeger !
