  • Its worth it you get a beer!

  • Guys its actually illegal here in louisiana to professionally shave someone with a straight razor. Has to be a safety razor. Thats a state law that stemmed from the communicable bloodborne diseases. Lauberge du lac casino now has a "fancy" shaving parlor in it that does haircuts and shaves. They use disposable razors and charge like 70 bucks for it..... cant imagine what moron would pay that to get bic'd.

  • That looked like can foam and a mach 3. Garbage. I hope the fee for that shave was about the cost of the mach 3 cartridge and no more.

  • that was awesome! & a giant beer afterwards! priceless.

  • It looks pretty good from here......i would love for that to happen to me!

  • THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!!

    He's using a home device.

    shame!

  • A fancy handle with a march 3 blade.. i am disappointed... i coud live with it i it was a safty razor... but march 3.. it is not near a god and close shave.. but every thing else looks realy god.. thou i miss the brush.... :) and thumps up for the beer in the end ;P

  • The reason why he should use a straight razor, is because you can NEVER get the same results with a mach 3. That is of course, when you are able to use a straight razor, but one should be able to expect that from a barber... Concerning the lathermachine, I believe I've read somewhere that some American states banned the brush from the barber shop for better hygiene.

  • I don't see why it's a big deal he doesn't use a straight razor. You go to get a shave to......pay attention.....get rid of the facial hair.....not to re-live your mafia dream from an Italian movie like a little boy. It gets the job done, and that's what it's all about.

  • @Saint7781 you really do not understand why you use the straight razor. for instance if someone used the razor that was in this vid on a turkish shave i would be pissed.

  • @Saint7781 But we can do that at home. Not too many people using a straight razor on themselves.

  • @youdosuck Some of us do use a straight razor at home, and the number is growing.

I don't have any shave soaps or creams that look like canned foam like whatever was used on this shave, either. I wouldn't pay anything for that. Just appalling. Maybe LA doesn't allow non-disposable razors, but if that's the case, at least use a straight shaver with a disposable blade.

  • im 15 and i caan do this at home

  • I'd definitely give the place a try. Like some others, I'd prefer the old-fashioned straight razor, but everything else looks just boffo - hot towels, a proper lather scrub, etc. Plus a cold beer to finish things off is always nice on a hot sunny day in N'awlins. :-)

  • man, what a rip off, not straight, oreven a DE razor, a freakin CARTRIDGE SHAVE!!!!!

I let him slide with the hot lather machine, but the CHAVE is unforgivable!

  • It's a Mach 3 with an old school handle

  • You can use a disposable straight razor like every other barber in the world. Not some cartridge razor like my wife uses to shave her legs. If any barber tried to shave me like that I would refuse to pay.

  • I wouldn't pay more than a fiver ( £uk ) for this, a cheap throwaway gillette blade with some hot towels and a cheap beer deserves no more ! Get yourself over to india or Sri Lanka and see how the real barbers perform, a few quid out there gets you treated to some serious pampering and the barber uses a proper straight razor and not a mass marketed piece of shit.

  • dude a poser

  • the beer makes up for lack of straight razor and badger brush.

  • @0neofthem no it doesn't.

  • Is it me or is the man in the video look already like he had a shave like five minutes before he walked in?

A Mach 3? I thought barber shops used a straight razor? Fake no balls barbershop.

  • I wish my barber gave me a beer afterwards.

  • whats with all the criticism??? cant you all just enjoy the time spent getting a shave and a beer?

  • whats with the hot towel before the shave? prob being a little dim here!! lol

  • @pastyhead78

The steam and heat in the hot towel helps open the pores in the skin to release trapped oil and dirt. That's also why the barber lathers the face more than once. The shaving cream/soap cleans the skin while softening the cuticle on the facial hair, making it respond better to the razor blade during the shave.

Plus the hot towel just feels like ten kinds of awesome once you get used to it. :-)

  • Is the barber a work experience lad?

  • I had NO idea that barbers "traditionally" used a multiblade lawnmower to shave clients with.

What happened to the straight razor?

  • 5 towel for make a shave! what a waste!!!

  • I deduct points for the guy not even using a safety razor (the lather machine instead of brush is still okay--although I prefer a brush lather). A quality safety razor and very good blades (I used Merkur on mine before I graduated to a straight razor) is still a better shave and not expensive than the modern stuph. That said, this guy gave a thorough, very close, smooth shave, and I saw no signs of burn anywhere. So his technique is at least very good.

  • @NevrSilent One other thing I noticed (for everyone to take heed), was, in spite of his sub-par choice of 'weaponry' here, he was making sure to constantly re-hyrdate and soap that face while doing his work. The blade glides best with a layer of soap over a layer of water over the skin (or so I was taught). And this guy was getting maximum stretchage on the customer's skin before each pass. The guy clearly knew he couldn't depend on the blade alone...lol...so was making up for it.

  • Given the quality of the shave I'd expect that to be a Bud Light at the end!

  • WTF, a cartridge shave. Bet that was a bud light too.

  • @CRAIGPROPERTY - LOL you literally just made my day pal!

  • go in some turkish barber and see what is shave!

  • @bsmyn0708 Thinking that the machine takes the fun out of the whole thing, in terms of calling it an old school shave, especially with the Mach 3.

  • MACH 3!!!! fake no balls barber shop

  • you are crap and you should n ot ever call your selfs barbers you are shit

  • No strait razor.... BOOO!

They could have at least used a nice DE safety razor. Probably would have gotten a better shave and wouldn't be spending $3-$4 per cartridge on the MACH3 blades. Also no badger hair brush. Much better lather using a brush rather than applying it by hand.

  • It's a shame that many barbers stopped using straight razors. Mine had to because his insurance company refused to continue coverage.

  • @foutastic No suprise: they are more dangerous than 'safety razors'. In the wrong hands, shit!

  • The beer is a nice touch!!

  • @100021861 yeah with all them hot towels an ice cold beer would be nice

  • Comment removed

  • Where on earth did you find that nicely restored Vulcan towel steamer? By the way, I love the old school look you have going on in that shop!

  • Just stating the obvious, but New Orleans is the most kick-ass town in the U.S. Every time I go, I would kill to stay.

  • HIV in this raizors.

  • @WMRGS06 impossible u dummy.they are sterilized,just like tattoo tools

  • @5tonyvvvv aham, claudia, senta lá.

  • I need to find a barber here in Chicago that serves beer.

  • a beer at the end is AWESOME!!!! thats a man place!!

  • Mafia 1 soundtrack ?

  • omg. thats a mach 3 blade! would never pay for that at a barber shop.

  • @emericanchaos not quite, its a safety razor, usually single blade. Its made of a better material than those shitty gillette baldes.

  • amadorismo.

  • I was seriously kickin' it old school with this guy... until the crappy cartridge razor came out.... what a joke.

BTW nice sound-track, though. And that barber shop is seriously cool. Too bad about the razor.

  • @Leighachristine its not a cartridge razor

  • @kestkr It is a Mach 3 blade on a different handle. You can tell by the way he's shaving that it's a cartridge. You don't shave like that with a double edge or anything else. Aftermarket Mach 3 handles are actually quite common.

  • FAIL!

  • who here uses man skeet instead of shaving cream cause i dont.

  • cool that you get a beer when you are done but not the same without the cut throat razor.

  • Is the beer supposed to make up or the lack of a straight razor?

  • Anyone notice the guy's wave at 2:44? xD Bit camp.

  • Now this is what i call a Barber Shop!!!!

  • @MADdrummer971 Nope, no straight razor. That's what I call a fail shop.

  • WTF where is the straight razor...

  • I kind of wish I had a beard; then I could get the hot towel treatment. Question though: How many towels do you use for one customer?

  • Comment removed

  • FAIL!!!! FAIL!!!!

  • that shaving cream dispenser in the beginning looks like an ice cream dispenser

  • damn u get a beer after what!? i gotta go to this place

  • No doubt a safety razor is waaaay more convenient, hell they do a really good job too. I think people get carried away with the number of blades though, I have had irritation problems with more blades. I read that the first blade will pull up the skin around the hair and then the remaining blades will actually cut the skin if you aren't careful with the pressure. I use a two blade razor now a days and it is so much more nimble. I'm looking to try my first straight shave.

  • A shave and a pint? Sign me up!

  • In the hands of an expert the straight blade is all the innovation you need. but for those who don't have access to a barber who can use such a blade, I guess the mach three cheese grater is a better choice.

  • Aggh! Using a Mach 3 or 4 razor for a full service old timey shave? I'm sorry but 'fail'. Heck if he was using a Merkur D.E. safety razor he'd still get a closer shave. I switched a year ago and haven't looked back.

  • lmao, a beer in a baber shop? fucking awesome. i wanna go to new orleans now

  • @QueenIsLove39 Most upscale barbers have beer. If you live in a somewhat large city there is a great chance you will find one like this.

  • you can romanticize the straight razor all out of proportion to its merits, but it won't compete with today's premiere blades.

  • take a blade out of one of your razors and pull a hair out of your head, then hold the blade and lower the hair onto it, see if it pops in half. proper honing any straight razor can do this.

  • if you want to cut the individual whiskers in half after shaving them off with a mach3, the straight blade may be superior because the mach3 was designed to shave with the contours of your face in lieu of single hair...straight blade not so much.

  • it's not only the extent to which the blade is sharp but the angle, the number of blades and the ease of use of the razor. all theses qualities and more make the newer razors' performance far superior to the blades of yesteryear. sorry, but it's true. "the barber surgeons" on youtube @2:53 has a leading expert corroborate my assertion. if anyone knows about this, aidan gill does; however, it doesn't take an expert to know innovative technology only improves blade performance.

  • yes but 2 3 4 5! blades running across your skin in one pass is so so much irritation. i'm saying ppl who swear by safety razors are either scared of straight blades or they're too lazy to get up earlier make lather but the steel to the strop and take their time

  • i agree with billy3287480 but god thats just classic shave and a beer haha :-)

  • Where's the badger brush and straight razor?

  • SAFETY RAZOR! That is cheating.

  • @gardenvarietypenis in your dreams!!! straight razors are so damn sharp you just don't even know buddy

  • i know enough to know you don't know shit about improvements in shaving technology. the straight razor is to the mach3 as kiddy-scissors are to a scalpel. i only wish you were here so i could demonstrate on your nodules!!!

  • dude no way in hell... if you actually know wtf u are doing u can slowly lower a hair on a properly sharpened blade and it pops right in half. lets see you take a mach 3 blade and do that. so straight razors kick ass. newer ones are for men too lazy to get up 10 minutes earlier

  • "dude"? that's no way to start a refutation if you want to be taken seriously.

ask any barber what gives the closer shave. they will tell you that todays razors are far superior to the straight razors of yore. it's the 21st c. "dude" get with the program.

  • An attempt at "being taken seriously" lessons from a guy with a penis reference for a youtube handle?

This, gentlemen, is pure internet comedy.

  • the truth by any other name is still the truth, and that's the double-truth, ruth!! what's with the quotes, tikayyan?

  • Confuciousy! The seriously-takenness is now thick as a yeti's asshair!

Dunno averagedick, probably same as whats with the dope rhyme. Right, dude?

  • when you crawl out of the your bottle be sure not to get back in touch.

and for confucius' sake, brush up on your style the next time you try to employ quotes.

  • how long does it take

  • I had the same thing in New Orleans, only the guy didn't use a Mach 3. Or give me a shave 'cause he wasn't a barber. He sold me 6 or 7 beers though.

  • What on earth is that box on 0.33? Its dispensing cream by the looks of it. Wheres the brush?

  • the shit coming out of the machine is elephants' cum. splat.

  • This is a barber? without straight razor? ahhahh ridiculous...

  • Agreed, if I wanted to be shaved with a mach 3 I'd just do it at home, oh yeah, I use a Dovo "Special" straight razor at home!

  • Solingen Weltmeister my friend! ;)

  • are then legal in N.O.? What, you didn't bother to find out and decided to throw stones instead? I get it, you're the typical internet d-bag.

  • @3AHMAD3 Agreed, where is the straight razor and the badger brush? Nothing old-school about a mach3 razor.

  • @3AHMAD3 some multi-blade razors work surprisingly well

  • @3AHMAD3

Since I can't respond to everyone with this complaint, I'll just respond to the most recent one: In most states, as Barbers are certified by each individual state, there are new laws that have made it very difficult to get a shave with a Straight Razor from a barber....in the state that live in it is actually against the law. Period. End of Story.

  • @3AHMAD3 Here in Italy there isn't any barber that still use straight razor (hygienic reasons).

  • now that's a fucking shave. Hard to find such service nowadays, The beer was the cherry....

    d

  • Why does he add the hot towel AFTER the shaving cream is applied?

  • To soften the beard and remove oils.

  • What better after your shave than a pint of piss

  • lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i agree......so does my dad....self medication is sad with boose....shows one cant handle life.

  • the guy has a weird smile

  • Need that straight edge son

  • mach 3? Seriously?

  • It's not the instrument, but rather the craftsman behind the instrument.

  • garbage...too wet, mach 3? WTF?

  • Wow, he looked exactly the dam same after the shave as he did before it.

  • the hot towel shave only takes 20 minutes or so...did you expect him to age in that time?

  • what BS is this? first he used his hands to apply the saving cream. then he shaved with a mach 3? WTF!!!

  • mach3 will give you a closer shave than a straight razor and with less burn.

  • WHERE IS THE STRAIGHT RAZOR. OMGZ

  • a shave and a beer, huh? I like that! Why cant I find a barber shop that serves beer?

Nice little time capsule. Sort of reminds me of being in a Woody Allen movie (the music).

  • I agree, when I get a straight shave my barber doesn't give me a beer........

    should complain ^_^

  • Word. If I had the money, I'd open up my own shop and serve beer to gentlemen.

  • omg in bulgaria havent that barber shop

    how much is that??

  • Its called a Lather King Deluxe Model. Google it and you can find how and where to order it. Its about 225 bucks or so

  • I can deal with the lack of brush since he may be promoting it as a face massage as well, but using a cartridge razor is just plain wrong. I was shocked to see that. He may as well have lathered him up cleaned it off and used an electric.

  • What the hell is with the cartridge!?!? No stroping? No straight? No brush?

  • i wish the barber broken a frozen beer bottle over the head of his customer...not to hurt the customer just to let him know how refreshing an ice cold beer can be after a hot towel shave on a muggy afternoon in nawlins.

  • ROFL " i wish the barber broken a frozen beer bottle over the head of his customer " " to let him know how refreshing an ice cold beer can be after shaving " L O L

  • whatever works for you

  • i was quoting what you said.........

  • sorry, i must have been drunk when i typed. please don't hold me responsible for every piece of drivel coming off this keyboard.

  • what type of lager/beer was that at the end?

  • Pabst Blue Ribbon, the only beer there is

  • FUCK THAT SHIT!!! Heineken!

  • a proper shave is lather, hot towel and and a Cut Throat Razor now i know this cause i do this myself and trust me, youve never felt softer skin before so as for gillette and that EAT YOUR HEART OUT

  • AlanRhodes1985 is too serious. To bad cut throats are illegal in the state.

  • lol ah dont worry man, nothing wrong with a close shave thats all

  • Comment removed

  • Beer!

  • "traditional" shave.

complete with lather machine and cartridge.

how about some proraso and a straight.

  • yeaha i know, a REAL shave is with a straight not some mach 3 lol...

  • What the...?!

No brush, a Mach 3 Razor? This is just crap!

A real shave needs a brush and a knife or a traditional safety razor.

  • only in new orleans...best barber shop period.

  • What is that on 0.34? The lather comes out of a box? No brush?

  • Very cool.

  • Great work, glad to see your vision come true!

  • Hi, love the shop. especially the upright towel steamer. Regards from the Waldorf Barbers Dublin Ireland.

  • seems a real barbershop would use a straight razor.

  • seems like you are a real barber because you would know that they are outlawed in many states.

  • Not if you use replaceable blades.

  • i knew you were a real barber.

  • just a part-time barber, does that count as real

  • Not if your not from the states. So whats the reason they are outlawed there and not anywhere else?

  • I had my hair cut there, it was awesome!
