CSPAN is not operated or funded by the government. It's a non-profit entity that gets funding from cable and satellite providers. Conservatives often think that CSPAN is a government run agency, and when Michael Savage made a fuss over CSPAN not airing his phoned in acceptance speech for the Freedom of Speech Award from Talkers Magazine, there were plenty of people who wrote in asserting that CSPAN should have it's government funding stripped.
