This is what I was told by a friend of a friend who was also on the show. The show isn't fake. Its just scripted around an item. Say I walked in with a bad ass gold coin. They would look at it, find it interesting, then the producers look at it then write up a script. The person selling then walks in like he just got there and its all scripted. Like when they call a specialist to look at it, that's all filmed at the same time. Even if they know its a bad ass coin or a fake ass coin.

@mbphofan The show is for historical purposes. I've actually been to the G/S Pawn Shop. The customer service was incredible when I was there and, although they didn't have what I was looking for, I still feel that I got the most out of my experience there.
Doesn't always work out, that's only small money. But if it was something like a 90k cannon or some antique, nobody would buy it JUST because it was on pawn stars.
It is obvious that give you more money on ebay, but if you sell something to a pawn shop is because you need the money immediately, no time to wait for someone to buy, which could take months ... and it a business.

Kind of ironic, just having an item air on Pawn Stars gives it more value than was originally offered on Pawn Stars. It just goes to show that owning a piece of "reality TV" might be more desirable than actually owning an antique.

@Justmyopinionlol actually, the producers of the show research the shit before filming, then rick or whoever else reads off a teleprompter for the 'backroom' type segment, but when it shows them facing the customer, those are the parts they memorize, then again it is the History channel, so they have to portray in an educational way

These guys have to pay overhead on their building, air conditioning bills, salaries, workman's comp, liability insurance and plus eating it on stolen goods and bad deals.
They give people cash in hand which is their stock in trade. I move a lot of merchandise myself and I'll tell you what reselling shit can be a heart attack in a can.

@thetoddsmith True that, some of the people are real but its not natural...most are bad actors or friends of the staff and camera crews. An example in the earlier shows is when a guy comes in with an old coke machine. The guy is Ricks brother Ron from Ricks Restoration. They pretend to haggle over price and then take it to Rick to fix.
