Giorgio Moroders "I Feel Love" sung by Donna Summer in 1977 was in my book the first House track. As it utilised sequenced drums, electronic sounds, and repetetive looped vocals, all for the very first time. What Jesse does here is 7 years after the fact.
Well, Moroder is indeed electro genius. No doubt about it, but he didn't have the funk these guys have. Therefore, his music is more, and that song in particular, the begining of the european phenomenon called Trance, if you don't mind.
Well, "I Feel Love" hasn't that RnB/Hiphop vibe that this track has.
"IFL" sounds more like classical music with synthesizers (like his french equivalent in Jean Michel Jarre), than all that jazz and groove House has been cemented into during the mid 90's.
"I Feel Love", came out of the Disco scene of the 70's which is all based on funk, R&B, Soul, Jazz etc. The House we knew in the 90's is just the same.
Yeah, but Moroder has that Italo feel that makes it more into classic synth and synthpop than, should we say, Todd Terry? I would definitly draw a line from Moroder to Kleerup and Tïesto.
@ThesmokeNmirrorsHQ I am spot on, Giorgio Moroders "I Feel Love" sung by Donna Summer in 1977 is the first House record. It is FACT, it is history, deal with it. Please do a search for it. The truth will smack you between the eyes. The Jesse Saunders track is 7 years after. The horse had already left the stable! It's like saying World War II started in 1932, or man first stepped onto the Moon in 1962, it's just dumb.
@nippadj soz dont agree but dont want to get caught up in a thread war as this has turned out. But... it was electronic disco which was later became 'post-disco' and was rediscovered by house djs in the 80s to become an anthem in gay clubs which back then, was the only place to hear quality house music and not the pop that was played in mainstream clubs and yes, I was a straight kid sniffin poppers with 7foot tall trannies in the Taxi Club and Exchange in Sydney during the 80s lol ;)
@KevSchism You don't have to agree, but it's fact, and it is house. Even house today, could be called 'Electronic Disco'. In fact it would be a more accurate description. Sydney Taxi Club sounds hilarious.
@nippadj Taxi Club was a classic! I love this topic when its a well balanced discussion and thanks for your reply. The thing is, house wasn't a term used then. Early house was also much more simply programmed, more repetitive and even Giorgio himself called it disco. I'm far from arguing that house has its roots in disco, just that in my opinion, 'I Feel Love' wasn't house in the true sense wiki/Giorgio_Moroder
@KevSchism There's a sample used in house records that goes "House Music, before it was House". It's about those tracks that were House, before the term was concocted. Moroder was a pioneer. Saunders wasn't. Moroder thought he was creating a new "Electronic Disco" sound, when in actual fact he had created a whole new genre - House. The term House comes from The Warehouse in NYC. People used to say "You know that music they play at the Warehouse - they call it house music".
@nippadj yeah I get the whole history thing with Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy etc although Frankie Knuckles back then played disco and perhaps r'n'b. I agree that is the start of house music as we know it just as say Kraftwerk is argued by some to be the birth of techno and others will argue Cybotron is but I guess we need to look at this way, it wasn't like a light switch. There is a progression with all things and you are right - genres are more often than not a game of semantics
@KevSchism " it wasn't like a light switch. There is a progression with all things and you are right - genres are more often than not a game of semantics" exactly right!
@nippadj WRONG! At least set the facts straight, mate. The British producer, Pete Bellotte with Moroder had helped produce "I feel Love" which of these two contributed the most ideas is debatable and only they could give us the answer to that. I think the whole idea of "electronic sounds only" took shape with Kraftwerk, it was only a matter of time before someone else expanded on the idea, like Chicago house music etc. Many countries/races contributed to the evolution of electronic music.
@nippadj not really read what I wrote again. Also, "House" was an "Underground" movement of musicians and party-goers from black, Hispanic deprived areas and gay communities, Moroder and Bellotte hardly fit that category, nor Summer with her money making singing career. House becomes "House" with Afro-Americans,specifically Chicago House."it utilised sequenced drums, electronic sounds, and repetitive looped vocals" Kraftwerk started that idea off they were the inspiration behind "I feel love".
@ElectronicMusicUK Thanks for 'insight' into what house is, and your blinkered view that the producers have to be the end users. When you create something new, you are the first, there is no fan base. Chicago house is also waaay after the fact. Kraftwerk is not house, it is pure electronica. It lacks soul, which is a key element of house.
@ElectronicMusicUK I thought you had some intelligent views, but resorting to slagging me off, is really unintelligent, thick as fuck, school boy stuff - especially on YouTube!
To the comment: "thank you, gay men of the early eighties...without you, there would be no house music."... you are crazy. "House" music wouldn't have been possible without young people with a need for inner city underground sound...whether gay, straight or whatever the F!
awesome chicago techno house 1980's, music was at its best this era in time, from 2000's music lost its way, back to old skool, back to basics, is way to go, what a tune, awesome
Special thank to UPS (United Parcel Service) chicago area for stealing this and many other classic Chicago records from me. I want my daddys records back - u muthafunkaz!

@Weekzilopochtli exactly i love all the 80's high energy, eurodance, italodisco, in fact some idiot accused me of being sexually confused because i like this kind of music, i can assure you i am happy being straight woman
@TheOptimod i know that, i was making light of the fact that a relatively high percentage of houses' forefathers were gay...and that gay clubs, such as chicago's warehouse, were where the genre made its debut. it would be ridiculous to think that 100% of people doing ANY one task all have the same orientation.
@WeekzGod i know that, i was making light of the fact that a relatively high percentage of houses' forefathers were gay...and that clubs with a large gay population, such as chicago's warehouse, were where the genre made its debut. it would be ridiculous to think that 100% of people doing ANY one task all have the same orientation.

@WeekzGod "The term "house music" may have its origin from a Chicago nightclub called The Warehouse which existed from 1977 to 1983.[11] The Warehouse was patronized primarily by gay black and Latino men"
they danced to the music.. they certainly were not the ones making the music (although there were a few gay dj's.. i think frankie knuckles was gay...)
and i know about the warehouse and music box already..
@traphikk No dude with out the WareHOUSE in Chicago there wouldnt be House, as the same with the Paradise GARAGE in New York there wouldnt be Garage music got nothin to do with gays man! These are the clubs they started in so they had to go to those venues to listen to it..... hence the name of the music
He contacted me on my MySpace page & said "Thanx for showing some luv & support. It's always good to hear from people who truly have House in their heart". He also contacted me a couple of weeks later to say he is doin a gig in Sept at the SeOneClub in London. (Go to my account here for my MySpace account details ~ I mean, if u want. Ha !)
First 500 were with black labels and were obviously all sold quite locally in Chicago. If u can find one on Discogs, be prepared to pay about $300 (£200). The subsequent pressings with a white label will be more in the region of £50 - £100.
I just listened to that Menergy track...thx for the tip!. Yes, they do sound similar...they both have that very early Chicago house sound to them...even though the Menergy is more classed as Disco. The riff used in this track was ripped from a Disco track as I have detailed in the notes. I am not sure what version of this track was played on the radio.

First 500 were with black labels and were obviously all sold quite locally in Chicago. If u can find one on Discogs, be prepared to pay about $300 (£200). The subsequent pressings with a white label will be more in the region of £50 - £100.

This song sounds wayyyyyyy too much like Menergy by Patrick Cowley himself, or along with Sylvester.
Do the comparison. Maybe it's just me.
Still love the song, though. I'm I mistaken, or did they actually play this UNEDITED on the radio?

I just listened to that Menergy track...thx for the tip!. Yes, they do sound similar...they both have that very early Chicago house sound to them...even though the Menergy is more classed as Disco. The riff used in this track was ripped from a Disco track as I have detailed in the notes. I am not sure what version of this track was played on the radio.
