that is awesome he even went below parallel and didn't have that wide of a stance. that is a great squat. I got to admit i thought the bar was going to go over his head when his upper body fell down that low. if he kept his head up it would have been easier. great job
For those debating his fitness, it's called absolute strength vs. relative strength vs. endurance. This guy is a beast with absolute strength. There is a reason he does not train like David Goggins and vice versus. To be the best in one area, you have to take from the others. Go train for a marathon and see how that helps your 1RM, LOL.
@SjakethesnakeS try listening to the announcer...he clearly says it's 1102 pounds. The plates are probably 100 lb plates, not the standard 45 lb like you find in a commercial gym.
bet this guy couldn't run half a mile. But, every athlete has his forte' and we should all respect that. Ronnie has a great physique, and this guy is strong as hell
im not saying he is or has to im saying that he probably gets winded from walking up a flight of stairs or doing a normal slightly strenuous activity. Just a big hunk of muscle. No endurance or flexibility
d actually be surprised about how flexible powerlifters can be..my friend is about 260 or so..great lifter an he is more flexable then alot of skinnier less bulky athletes.
yeah he might get winded from walking up a flight of stairs, I guess as a competitive powerlifter myself.....who cares? I would much rather have an 1102 squat then fly up a bunch of stairs. Its generally one or the other, there's very few out there who have it all
@BlakeC94 Being stronger does not mean lifting easy weights gets harder. Lifting his mass alone, up a flight of stairs, would be absolutely nothing. Why would it tire him out? His heart is far far stronger than the average person, so again, why?
@Ehal256 his heart is stronger but their is a difference between what he does & cardiovascular endurance. different strains on the body. completley different ways of training.
@BlakeC94 its still ridiculous to say he can't climb stairs. Getting strong in one area does not make you weaker in another. He should be able to climb stairs at least as well as any average person.
@Ehal256 i was being partly sarcastic. i thought it was easy to tell. and yes he probably can just like any average person. but trust me, powerlifters, bodybuilders, boxers, football players, etc. they are all different from one another. different amounts of endurance, strength, agility, flexibility, etc.
@tarunramesh what if he's trapped under a car that weighs 1102lbs? and he just got back from lifting weights so he has his suit, wraps and belt on? and the weight is conveniently placed on his traps? he'd be a step ahead of everybody...
@ObamaTheRealLoser Standard bar in a gym is rated at about 1000 lb capacity (although some are only 700). The bars used for power lifting usually are rated at 1500 lbs.
I saw SG some years ago at Carl's Steak House (Sizzler) in Bedford Texas on Pipeline Road. I didn't have a long look, but I was impressed. Another time there was a cop there who someone said was a seven footer, maybe, but SG was more impressive. What would really impress me is if he'd do a butt to ankles front squat with that load, but it will never ever come close to happening. Anyone else remember when PL used a curl vs a deadlift? Well the total went up with DL's and that's the goal.
So you should be! Ronnie could eat your ass over the course of a single day, in 6-8 meals, and Goggins could break your ass in half and toss you 100 metres away.
Powerlifters sniff ammonia from crushed tablets or bottles, also known as nose torque, it pumps you with adrenaline but if you sniff too much you want to pass out lol!
Why are you all saying this was a bad squat when he was lifting 1,102 pounds? It doesn't matter how pretty it is. Getting that thing on his back and not falling on his ass breaking every single bone in his body in the process, was impressive enough for me let alone squatting it.
@junkyjuice21 Well, for one, he does not even have to step back from the rack, like Kirk Kawoski for example. Check Kirk's lift. Kirk even stands up all the way. There is no comparison between the quality of these two performances. This is impressive, yes, but rules are rules, and lifts are either successful lifts are not successful lifts, based on those rules.
He was not parallel... You go by the crease in the hip not by tour thighs. He is strong but join the USAPL where you can only have single ply suits/shirts (no multi-ply,denim or open back), you have to walk the weight out of the rack and I want to see someone squat 1000+ like that.

Wtf. Im not saying thats not impressive because its damn impressive but, what the hell!? More like a good morning, terrible ROM for a squat oO This is why I dislike powerlifting more and more...

Ronnie Coleman is the beast? Goggins squatted 300lbs more than the Coleman video, at about 50lbs less and with the same gear Ronnie uses. How is Ronnie a beast?
Ronnie is in much better shape, he did it twice, and his legs were closer together, also ronnie would not be winded after running for 3 minutes, and by the looks of this guy, i think he would.
Ok. Ronnie works for good looking muscles, this guy works for strength. Personally, people who are fucking strong are big and strong are beasts, not those who walk around flexing.
Well Ronnie would be the exception, since his weights are pretty close, a lot of body builders are only for show, but not ronnie, cause he's crazy strong for one.
terrible shape? Do you realize the kind of diet ronnie sticks to? Also his body is in much better condition, his cardio is much better, and this guy's is probably non-existent, and ronnie is much more flexible, that doesn't sound like bad shape to me.
What about his shoulder, leg, hip, neck, elbow and back problems? I refer to a body with those problems as "In much better condition". And LOL @ Ronnies Cardio.
Please explain the logic of your opinion. Ronnie is riddled with scar tissue and joint problems as well as has enlarged internals. He also requires regular joint manipulation to help his trapped nerves and skeletomuscular cramping. Far as I know, this chap suffers from none of those problems to anywhere near that degree. So again, please explain your logic.
Why sniff ammonia? Why knee wraps?Did not stand the spotters did assist him to raise the bar.
